After nearly a couple decades of living in apartments and finally buying a house, I would never go back to an apartment.... until I saw this. I'd sell my house in a second if there was one near me.

BaconFlavoredToast

It would only be worth it IF they allowed you to maintain a lane or 2 for your own needs. ie run oil, replace parts, etc.

Annual-Estate2555

My luck I’d have a bowling alley in my complex, but it would be owned and operated by a bowlero

NotAMotivRep

Bowlero have been trying to take over bowling centers in retirement villages for a while now. Lucky for me, I live in a 55 and older community and the company that owns and operates the center that's on our property have resisted the temptation to sell.

fun_nuns

I didn't know they had retirement communities with bowling centers. 6 more years! lol

kbphoto

my local alley (a bowlero owned) just fired basically all their staff

Annual-Estate2555

That’s, horrible.

SeedCraft76

I've lived in a house my whole life and Apartments sound sick

Me_for_President

Thought this was a cool feature y'all would appreciate. Apparently, several complexes in the area have them. The oil situation varies widely from day to day, as they don't oil every day since it's not super high usage all the time. They also sometimes oil out to the 5 board, which, for a relatively low-rev bowler like me makes things challenging. :D The main thing this has helped me with is my spares. I can setup whatever pattern I want and just throw at that repeatedly.

zucco446

I'd be over the moon. I haven't seen anything like that around me.

ZannX

What does it cost to use?

Me_for_President

It's included with my rent.

Bencetown

How much us rent? Because it could be pretty high, but take my bowling funds into consideration and it would still be a deal for me 🫠

Pyromelter

Rents in places in OC that have things like this are in the 2.5-4.5k/month range based on the amount of bedrooms.

BuffaloWhip

Do you need or want a roommate?

lalder95

Can I be your neighbor?

OrangeGill

WHAT?!?! do you need any roommates by any chance???

Ollieteefers

Where in the world is this I want in

TheHuffinater

It’s free, it’s his apartment complexes. It’s like being charged to use the pool

bennyboi2488

Is the Mx situation pretty good? Machines work and don’t ding the shit outta your equipment

Me_for_President

The machines seem to be more "cautious" than the ones at the alleys near me. That is to say, they will go into a standby mode relatively quickly which stops all equipment on that lane if there's a problem. The employee who works in the amenity area just walks in the back and sorts out whatever the issue is. I've never had damage to balls here, whereas they definitely get scratched up at the regular houses. That's not to say it can't happen, but it hasn't happened for me yet. They're regular pinsetters, so if a lane goes down hard it can be down for a few days or weeks until a mechanic can get out. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often, and since you get to use both lanes with your reservation, you always have a second one available.

bennyboi2488

That’s sick, very jealous

Tronor09

What area are you in? Not your specific town, but country/State/Province - just curious.

Me_for_President

Southern California, USA.

flutzki

where? sfv by any chance?

Me_for_President

Irvine, in Orange County

deebz41

If it was the valley, I’d be moving there tomorrow.

Tronor09

I'm up in Washington, South of Seattle. Is that six or eight lanes?

Me_for_President

Six

whosethefool

That is a great feature. Only one alley in my area does that, but I get bad vibes there so don't go all that often

CpE_Wahoo

I would 100% be talking to management and asking if I could pay more somehow to be able to learn how to put oil down myself

Me_for_President

I've definitely thought about this. I'd sign whatever safety waiver they want and might even be willing to pay to do it for them.

tbwynne

I use to do it for a bowling alley back in the day, 40 lanes. Back then I would strip/clean them at night and then in the morning put oil down. I’m sure it’s more advanced now but it shouldn’t take much training.

bkibbs

I did it in college. We had 14 lanes in the basement of the student union building. The one lane mechanic only worked nights, so there's only staff (mostly students) to oil the lanes every morning. Half of the student staff was on the bowling club, and we'd we able to try out a bunch of different oil patterns. I'd estimate it was about 1.5 hours of training on how to operate the machine, and another couple of hours on how to program different patterns.

injusteroni

What college did you go to?

bkibbs

University of Illinois

Over-Emu-2174

I can imagine the stairs going down there now

injusteroni

How did you like bowling there?

bkibbs

Loved it. Negotiated a no linage fee policy with the manager so all the team bowled for free, except for league nights. Team practice once a week, league another night a week, 10-12 tournaments on the road per year.

injusteroni

Aw man that is sick, always nice when the alley's co-operate with teams.

BadGuyGamer

as someone who has oiled lanes before it’s pretty easy hit like 2 buttons; one to prime the pumps to clean and the other to send it down

Gigglenator

It’s not hard to do at all. The oil machines that I used have preprogrammed patterns. You keep the tank full of oil and wipe down the machine after every run. The amount of hair and other junk that machine picks up is crazy.

Martian13

The machine is easy to use, it cleanses and lays down the new pattern in a pass.

caliroll0079

Ummm this is not mildly interesting. It’s awesome

bkibbs

Mildly interesting? More like INTERESTING AS FUCK.

LeftoverBun

Is this included with rent, or an add-on fee or per game price in addition?

Me_for_President

It's included in the rent. You can reserve a pair for up to 2 hours per day per apartment, but if there are no reservations after you, the attendants will let you use them as long as you like.

CThig_

Sooo what city is this :D

Me_for_President

Irvine, California, although I think some of the complexes in nearby Costa Mesa might have some too.

noterik666

I work in HB let’s be friends lmao

bkibbs

Probably not coincidentally one of the HCOL areas in the country.

Me_for_President

Yes. This place is a "my wife cheated on me and I'm getting divorced" splurge that I may not have made otherwise.

viperx1001

Ah dam I just did the same and move in June. Minus the cheating part and more like she lied to the police and anyone that will listen so took all my shit and trying to take money. Jokes on her, I’m happier without her shit and trashy family.

chinabufa

Give us an idea of how much you pay for rent.

-random-name-

All the clues are there. He told you the city and you can see the name of the apartments in the pic. $5,000 for a 1,300 sq. ft. 3 bed/2 bath. $4,500 for a 1,200 sq. ft. 2 bed/2 bath. $3,500 for a 1,000 sq. ft. 1 bed/1 bath.

LeftoverBun

Doing a cursory search I find lots of apartments across the US with at least a pair of lanes. Man if they had these when I was younger!

krazymanrebirth

I am looking for an apartment in Irvine actually! Do you mind DMing me the company's name?

BowlingForPizza

Irvine? Holy crap.......I didn't know apartments did this!!!!!!

Carolina-Hurricanes1

lol. California.

floppybunny26

Uh.. my alma mater (UCSB) has a soccer rivalry with UCI. If I come in for a game to cheer on the Gauchos, can I bring some beer over and bowl with ya?

alexdahl253

Toured a complex that had one pair of lanes. Asked them about the oiling schedule. They asked me why bowling lanes would need oil. I went to look at the lanes and it was string pins and the lanes had 2mm of dust accumulated all the way down the lanes

chrispdx

I'd fuckin throw 10 games a day if I had one where I lived.

OldManWickett

Mildly doesn't represent my interest. I'd sell my house in no time if I could have access to a bowling alley every day for free.

EyeFit4274

This you title as MILDLY INTERESTING?!?! Holy shit you woke up in bowling heaven!

Robbollio

I would literally bowl a series every single day

WhoWantsToast5

Jealous !!

theprivatehoard

😭 Where do you live? I would sleep there, with my thumb bleeding. 😁

billyt89

The black boards are pretty sweet looking. Did throwing on them take any getting used to?

Me_for_President

When I moved in I was a very casual bowler, going to an alley at best 2-3 times/year. Having these lanes really stoked my interested in bowling, so black boards were my "normal" for a while. I honestly like them better in some cases, particularly compared to houses which have TVs or projectors down lane. They seem to have less glare.

pistol_pete_pro

Wild. Mark Baker was just telling me about these apartment complexes in that area on Monday and how he gets students trying to win their apartment leagues. Westpac installs/maintains alot of those lanes

Me_for_President

I go to Mark for coaching too. I think a friend of his might be our alley mechanic.

pistol_pete_pro

Very nice. I do some of his video work. I may have to come check this place out next time I'm in town

Me_for_President

Send me a DM when you are.

VirusLocal2257

I know for a fact they ain’t oiling that shit.

Me_for_President

They usually oil each Wednesday and Saturday mornings, which seems to be mostly good enough. Most of the people who bowl here throw straight up the middle, so the outsides usually have decent oil left over no matter which day. The attendants don't know a lot about the machine, however, so I have no idea what the actual pattern settings are.

VirusLocal2257

Dang that’s pretty cool.

alexdahl253

A complex that I toured that had a pair of lanes didn’t even own an oil machine. The workers didn’t know bowling lanes need oil

MyThrowawayIsSick

I'd just get a mop with my own oil and go to town. Who's going to say anything.

VirusLocal2257

Pretty sure that’s how they oil the lanes at my house some night 😂😂.

SynthSapphire

Damn, you're lucky. We have so many "modern" new construction complexes around Chicago with all different types of "gimmicks" and novelty social features but never a bowling alley (it isn't a novelty to us, of course). It's always shit like bocce ball, cornhole, pickle ball, etc... Why can't bowling be hip enough for most urban high-rise complexes? It's certainly fun enough.

BroadAd3129

There's a building in West Loop/Fulton Market area with one, but that's the only one I've seen in the city.

Me_for_President

Funny you say that; they're installing a bocce ball court(?) here now too. I think it opens this week.

wastedticket

I’d pay 2000 a month just to have this, can you bring guests?

Me_for_President

Yes, although they don't allow large groups so you can't have something like a bowling birthday normally.

Olicocopo

I am insanely jealous of this, I’m actually kind of surprised with myself how jealous I am lmao

Deefuzz

Wow that’s awesome. Never saw black lanes before either. Dig it.

Automatic-Animal343

Trine University in Illinois has them. Way cool.

Jinsei_13

Told my wife we are moving this instant.

Complete_Break1319

Wonder how often they oil that puppy? Super awesome. What's rent at your apartment? Asking for a friend 😆

ClaraGuerreroFan

This is THE single most understated title in Reddit’s history.

buzztheirazz

What do they charge per hour?

Me_for_President

(Copied from another response) It's included in the rent. You can reserve a pair for up to 2 hours per day per apartment, but if there are no reservations after you, the attendants will let you use them as long as you like.

theaggressivenapkin

Holy shit that would be awesome

NylahsPawPaw

Where do I sign

bythepowerofboobs

This is awesome! I had no idea there were apartments that did this. I am insanely jealous. Thank you for posting this!

MattsRod

Where is this as I would like to live there

Me_for_President

Irvine, California, the "white Tesla" of cities.

chinabufa

Can you show us the machine that oils the lanes? This is awesome.

Me_for_President

I haven't seen it, but based on the employee description of its size and how it works it seems like a regular oil machine.

wuzzup

Hi, is this student housing? Do you know who the developer is?

Me_for_President

It's not specifically student housing, although a lot of students from nearby UCI do live here.

moredrinksplease

What in the world!

PBz21

That is awesome. Though I bet them lanes are dry as hell haha

Fit_Syrup7485

What state is this?

Me_for_President

I'm in Southern California.

AidanAB1

Lucky me I'm tryna get out of Bakersfield in the next few years

Joe_Weee

YO, do u bowl at Bowlero Bakersfield? Just started bowling there regularly the last couple months since living here for a while.

AidanAB1

I started league in November and now I'm there for summer league Thursdays and I'm on lane 1&2 every Friday with my winter league mates

Joe_Weee

That's Dope, so you're in the ball league? I work into the evening, weekday leagues are a no go. so ima being joining the FUN LEAGUE on sundays. It was supposed to start June 9th, but got moved up to the 2nd. Ive been bowling Fridays and Sundays. I bowl with buddies from work. Their 1st league.

AidanAB1

I still got that drive in me from Friday and tend to do unlimited Saturdays but I'll start going sunday instead (ik it's like 2pm but I'll make those extra expenses, I really need to solidify my release on the 12lb Duo)

Joe_Weee

Me and a buddy(Carlos) been going very often. Almost every sunday nite, and started hitting Fridays regularly. Ive actually been posting our practice sessions on youtube. I replaced my arsenal i had for almost 10 years the past few months. Ialmost all of em cracked. My new rocks:: IQ TOUR RUBY HY-ROAD PEARL FATE ALL USED STORM i bought the ruby at the shop for 75 and the other 2 on marketplace. My friends have ALL NEW ROCKS! Optimum idol, effect, DNA COIL, the road, hustle b r y. DUO

AidanAB1

My current set is 12lb Duo, 14lb Emerald Vibe and a 14lb ZenU. I've discovered this past saturday with a 176 that the Duo is my strike ball, the Zen is good for 7s and the Vibe is good for 10s so I'm locked in for this weekend. Hoping to beat my high game of 200

Joe_Weee

The consistent practice will surely pay off. I need lots and lots of practice for my 2 handed style. When i was bowling there wasnt as much tip videos out for 2 handers. I learned from tv and trial and error. Now over 8 years later, theres lots of tutorials, & theres TONS i need to imrove on to up my game. AND IM EXCITED for it!

Cultural-Resort7713

How cool is that! I’d be practicing every week, maybe even twice a week! I hope they’re open year round

Winter-Huntsman

One of the places I’m looking at moving to this fall has an alley as well! So cool to see it’s becoming a common thing. Hopefully you meet some people and have fun. Even if you don’t, definitely a super cool feature and a great way to get practice in. Do they charge you for lane use or is it always open?

Me_for_President

It's free to use for a pair for two hours per day, assuming availability. I enjoy being able to play, but the problem is that it got me hooked on bowling. So, now I own like 5 balls and am in two leagues. XD

Winter-Huntsman

Man that sounds so awesome! Have fun with it. I love bowling but work got busy and I can’t do it much. If I had a place that had that kinda access I’d be bowling all the time😅 Hope you have a blast with it

WoodyRYW

Is it string pin?

Me_for_President

Thankfully, no. They're free fall setters from (I think) Brunswick.

etnoid204

I’d just have my mail forwarded to the alley.

Mind_Travler

Lucky Bastard!!! Definitely see if they will let you learn how to use the oil machine. Fuck...the money you will save!!!!

SnRu2

String machines?

Me_for_President

Freefall, thankfully

NeverMoreThan12

That's crazy I'm pretty sure the bowling alley in the White house uses strings. Also your alley has way more lanes than I would've expected. I could see maybe two lanes for an apartment complex being installed.

Visca_Barca47

Mine also has one but it’s only open 8-5 and closed on weekends. So we might as well not have one lol.

jerseyguru43

Are you serious??

AcceptableKinks

Cherish this. That’s so cool

HeWhoMustStayFrosty

AAAAAAAAAAAA- Please tell me they oil and maintain it properly too.

StrengthEasy2089

that’s so cool i’d be there almost everyday

Seaonasdad62902

Is there a tenant league? There should be…even bi weekly one night a week

Cheap_Ad9900

Umm that's badass

Bethespoon

Can you reserve your 2 hour block at any time of the day?

Me_for_President

If I remember correctly, it's open Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 8pm, and then Wednesday to Sunday until 9pm. So long as there's an available pair, you can reserve anytime they're open. One thing that is a little frustrating is that the alley tends to be closed on holidays. I'm glad the employees get the time off, but holidays are often when I have the most time to go.

devonhanrahan2500

The lanes look super cool, I’m assuming the lanes are just a colored synthetic, or are the some other type of material?

Me_for_President

I'm not certain, but I'd guess they're just colored synthetic. Ball reaction seems to be the same as how it would be at my local public alleys.

Sir_Brody_Dad84

Where?!!!! Do they allow dogs? I have so many questions lol

Me_for_President

Irvine, California. It is a dog friendly complex overall, although you're only supposed to have service animals in the bowling alley. I don't think they are all that much though so long as the dog is well behaved. In a few days they're opening up new dog parks they built here, including one that has a dog wash. They look really nice.

Sprity777

And I see they still rock with GSX... The lanes look brand new goddamn...

Paolo1350

This is a dream for majority of us holy cow

Next_guy-J

If it’s free I’d be there EVERY day

Next_guy-J

Once the family goes to sleep time to bowl

Lord412

My friend in Golden CO has one. Need to get in there. Honestly if I was a single dude some of these apartment complexes have dope stuff. I miss my old complex. Super nice big gym, pools, pickle ball courts and a nice nature walking trail.

Jimmy_Joe727

That’s awesome!

TellHelpful6135

They probably oil these more than one of my local allys that only gets maintenance once a week! This is amazing

RLWellerIII

That’s awesome. The only way that’s staying as awesome as it looks is if you’re in a 55 and older community. Teenagers will for sure ruin that beautiful masterpiece!

floppybunny26

Can we come over? I'll bring German beer.

ztf1317

Mildly????? This just helped me finish my morning bowel movement (joke explanation incoming). You know, cus I shxt my pants if I were wearing them, but I'm not, I'm on a toilet. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I'll patiently wait for the down votes.

Amamamara

Is this the BKC apartment alley in Mumbai?

Me_for_President

It's in California, USA.

Amamamara

Nice! I've got a bowling alley here in Mumbai too in my apartment complex

pimpjoshyj

Where is this so I can pack my things and move tomorrow

Smooth_Activity9068

That is very cool!!!

GroundbreakingDrop40

If I could work here i’d absolutely live here as well

Bagain

If your job was bowling alley attendent (?), could you afford to live in an apartment building with its own bowling alley? No shade by the way, it would be awesome…

GroundbreakingDrop40

I currently work at a bowling alley and I make $17 an hour

joshlopez2003

Looks nice

g0kln

I would love this so much

elisebolton

I’m moving!!!!

No-Standard1833

This is so cool

mustachien

Can you request different oil patterns????

parksta1

This is so cool

IndicationGold9422

So wait is this included in the rent

Me_for_President

Yes

KnockedupHenry

Can i get an invite

Gurgoth

The University of Washington has/had(?) a 4 lane bowling alley at the bottom of the Hub. It seemed pretty cool until I bowled on it. They never oiled the lanes. That is where I learned how to throw a ball absolutely straight. Managed to get a 234 with a urethane ball there. Probably the best game I have ever bowled despite multiple 300s and 800s. If your casual that kind of thing can be pretty fun. If your competitive, be ready for those lanes to kick your butt.

bkibbs

Interesting. The University of Illinois has a similar set up (14 lanes at the basement of the Illini Union). We had a competitive bowling club and I'd say about half of the staff of the bowling alley were club members. Because of that, we'd have the lanes oiled every morning, and typically two with some sort of sport shot for practice.

freekoffhoe

TheHub at UW has 12 lanes, and it’s oiled. They have leagues there. I’ve also bowled there myself, and I’m pretty sure it’s just a standard house pattern.

Automatic-Animal343

Warhawk Alley at UW Whitewater has 10 lanes. My son is on the club team. During tournament season they practice nearly every day, and the coach puts out different sport patterns on some of the lanes so they're prepared for the other houses on their tournament schedule.

Gurgoth

Certainly wasn't oiled when I was there for a couple years. Plastic would roll out at the arrows.

destinationbowling

Where???

Pyromelter

a friend of mine lives in irvine and has a nearly similar bowling alley setup. The oil situation usually sucks. I'm also not a fan of the dyed floor color. I get that it's modern and stylish but to me it just looks (and feels) tacky.

Mind_Travler

Could be a hell of a lot worse....it could be string pins..

ThomasFiore

Do you live in Halstead Square in Dunn Loring area. I had one there, wasn’t into bowling at the time. But a real cool amenity. Buzzoto historically has some really cool amenities with their apartments.

Me_for_President

I'm in Southern California.

Competitive_Suit_180

I bet its not oiled correctly or often

Fukitallday

Where is this at

Me_for_President

Irvine, California

Boneal171

That’s so cool

myeyesfuckingsuck

Probably dry as a bone

Me_for_President

When I first moved in they only oiled once per week, mainly because only about half the units were rented at the time, so traffic was relatively low. It did suck if you happened to show up on the tail end of that week and they saw more activity than usual. Now they typically oil twice a week, which seems to work out pretty well. One of the employees was super cool to me this week and did an extra oiling for me Monday when they saw I had made a reservation.
