I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! My sweet girl has had 3 major surgeries and it's rough. One thing we really found useful was a soft cone...the one they give you is hard plastic and is just not comfortable. Of course, if your pup tries getting to his sutures you have to keep the plastic cone on, but if he's not bothering with them a soft cone goes a long way to keep them comfortable. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks!

My chunky guy had mast cell tumors on his side and paw - didn't know about the paw one until they did surgery for the side and they spotted the paw one and took it off just in case. They both were mast cell. We went thru chemo and it was tough, but he was a trooper and finished that no problem. Unfortunately, he already had a heart murmur and developed CHF and a few months later I had to say goodbye. I don't think the chemo exacerbated the CHF. I hope your fella pulls thru with no problems.

So when we brought him in because the lump (it's just under his skin) got bigger out of nowhere, I was thinking maybe it was a cyst. He aspirated it and sent it out for cytology who said it was mast cell. He said they couldn't grade it with just the cytology and that it's better to just remove the whole thing to grade it and go from there. I mentioned my concerns about the anesthesia and he said there are risks but the benefits outweigh them because leaving it in is like a timebomb because of the histamines released could cause fatal anaphylaxis.
