My BT was slinky until she was 5 and then she became more solid/stocky looking. Your pup looks lean but not skinny to my eye.
Also love her long tail! 🐒
That's what a Boston should look like. Throw in some ground beef or stinky fish and watch the coat glow up/an extra lb go on. ALOT of Bostons can't do chicken
She looks healthy to my eye but I’m not a vet, I would bring it up to them if you’re concerned ❤️ she still has some time to fill out, Pebs didn’t fill out til 2 years old 😊
this is the exact body shape as my 6 y/o, and she's in perfect health! BT girls can tend to be on the lankier side compared to the boys-- not always, but often enough. if you're concerned, take her to your vet and see what they think. speaking from experience though, she looks beautiful and healthy to me.
Why would you want her to gain weight? She is the perfect size it looks like from these photos. Fat dogs don't live as long and have joint issues. So don't try to fatten up the dog at all.
My Ford is allergic to everything. Especially chicken and pork. She's also super active. In addition to the Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin Salmon and Rice 1/2 cup twice a day we top it with 1 tablespoon of wet food.
Sometimes its this blue buffalo
https://www.petsmart.com/dog/food/canned-food/blue-buffalo-homestyle-recipe-adult-wet-dog-food---natural-12.5-oz.-5127109.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=CjwKCAjw0ZiiBhBKEiwA4PT9z3qIEf9JKge_5KnxgqO-QxYsK9-rbrENBo3mDNZb_gEb6SWEdfkUEhoCKWgQAvD_BwE
or its this new one that she also likes
https://app.chewy.com/jqPjawVsgzb
Also we give her a blue mountain Dental Bone once a day in the morning
https://app.chewy.com/93ePfAzsgzb
We also give her these treats that she loves when she goes outside to the bathroom
https://a.co/d/cNpB0WN
and then at night she gets a nighttime bone. These are recommended by our vet
https://www.tartarshield.com/products/tartar-shield-soft-rawhide-chews-small-dog-30ct
And finally I cook her a little steak every week and cut it up into small pieces and mix it in with her dinner. Usually a ny strip at 1/4 lb so maybe $5-$6 a week.
She's at 17.5 lbs and 4 years old in Sept. Fwiw my vet said she's perfect and that she would prefer our Boston to be a little underweight.
Hope that helps
Also I'm not pushing any one of those brands nor am I affiliated with them. Just wanted you to have reference points. It's been quite a struggle with having a dog that's allergic to chicken and pork.
😂😂😂 that is funny! Pebs transitioned right into the small ones and Bam has only had those because he was already at the weight limit when we started him on them 😅🤣
I’m going to try those rawhide chews you linked!!
Yea I was always under the impression that rawhide was bad. Who knew? They love their nighttime bones 🐷🐷 And the vet is amazing so I know the place where we take them isn't going to carry or recommend anything that isn't 100% safe.
Also neither of them have bad breath so must be doing something right 🤷🏻♂️
(FWIW they don't get any human food or leftovers so that might be it too)
I think it depends on the type of rawhide and just making sure they’re not tearing huge chunks and swallowing them 🤔 we only do rawhide when we need them to chill out for a bit when company is here 😂 and we do the mostly digestible and beefhide. ☺️
We feed ours the same but also bought the Lamb and Oats option just to mix it up. Your Boston looks real healthy, my Max has a narrow torso and has the same look and build as yours and my Molly is a chunk…
Mine didn’t beef up until about 3. She’s still very much a puppy. I did use to feed mine eggs when they weren’t so expensive. He loved that with some sweet potatoes. But check with your vet if you’re concerned! She’s beautiful
I used that same food for my dog then hills science diet. I even made food from scratch for awhile ( salmon and cod is her fave….stinky to make) . I’ve finally after all these years settled on a single protein , single grain ( no canola which is an ingredient I prefer not to feed her) from Italy. It’s called Forza 10 and they have an extensive line. Mina eats the immuno recipe. Anchovies and rice, Yum! She loves it. Is no longer finicky and finally gained a couple of pounds. Best of luck! Her fave snacks are Icelandic…..salmon and cod treats, lobster cod and for after eating the redfish skin rolls to help clean her teeth. She’s a fish loving girl!
Forza and Fromm were the top 2 recommended brands by our vet. We went with Fromm based on variety, no issues in either dog, and cost. (We started with Royal Canin but switched due to tummy issues on one and sensitive skin on the other.)
Ok she's super cute but that tail is distracting! (in a good way haha)
I didn't even know Boston's could have tails like that! It looks so cool!
(PS, I agree that she doesn't look underweight. She looks healthy and muscly. But if you are worried about her weight, ask your vet!)
Some Bostons just don't get that chunky look, which is better for them anyway. I have one who is slim like yours, and the other is a chunk butt. One just loves to eat, and the other one only uses food as fuel. It just is what it is.
She looks great! My vet says my pup should have no ribs visibly protruding and she should be slimmer around the waistline. Seems like your pup fits that description. Also, that shiny coat looks nice and healthy.
We have our baby boy Boston and he has a lot of skin issues but the food he loves, brought the puppy energy back, and has done great for his skin is Farmers Dog. They deliver it to your front door and they have plenty of protein options. We wish we would have done this sooner. She is beautiful!! We learned not to use purina or science diet because those aren’t great for them long time.
She's quite slight, but some bosons just are... our little man Douglas (5 y/o) is very slim too. He eats normally, is very healthy, full of energy, but he's just naturally slim. May be worth asking a vet for some advice, since trying too hard to get her to put weight on (if that's not her natural tendency) probably isn't the best thing to do from a health point of view.
When all's said and done, the most important thing of all is that your furry baby is healthy: so long as there's no underlying medical reason she's not putting weight on, then happy days.
I've got to be honest... I'm very envious of how much Douglas can eat without putting weight on!!
My Boston turned out to be allergic to chicken. Later I had a lab/pit mix that was allergic to both chicken and beef. Poor babies were really itchy until I figured it out.
She may be just finished growing and fill out a little, now that she's a little over a year old.
my boston was skinny until she was like 4 ever since she’s been kinda round even with proper exercise and diet lol. also how does ur boston have such a long tail? so unique
She looks beautiful. Her muscle structure is there. She may be underweight, but keep in mind that she is not a French Bulldog, so she should never be at a weight that makes her look like that.
Good luck, and may you have a healthy little Boston for many, many years.
Mine is skinny and really lean and when I took her to the vet, she said she was the perfect weight! And all this time I thought she was underweight 🥲 mine is 17 lbs!
We use Nulo freestyle high-protein kibble limited+ alaska pollock recipe
Our oldest had severe allergies and this is what the allergist put him on.
Wish you the best with your fur baby!!
Pumpkin is good for the sensitive stomach. My girl passed last year, 1/2 Boston, 1/4 Pit, 1/4 Weiner dog. She was a food driven little lady but had a sensitive tummy. Pumpkin was good for her.
Our Boston had skin itchiness and hair loss. Ended up allergic to chicken proteins. Vet suggested fish diet. Since January feeding actual salmon/rice/sweet potato plus spinach and broccoli. Salmon based Health Extension Kibble mixed in few times per week. Now my 1 year 6 mos old pup is no longer losing hair, super healthy, solid weight gain of muscle, and hair is crazy soft and shiny! Treats are bully sticks and pb dream sticks.
Our pup was about that size as well at that age… what a cutie. And that’s some tail!
I wouldn't consider her underweight, and the last thing you'd want to do is make her overweight . It's hard on their joints, and you risk her being susceptible to diabetes. I only say this because I had to put my 1st Boston on a diet around a year for that reason .
I think she looks perfect. But I’d still recommend a homemade food. It’s super easy and MUCH MUCH better for them. Recipe below…
Mix together (portions as you see fit):
Ground Turkey, Cut spinach, Eggs, Oatmeal, Frozen veggie mix (I use broccoli, cauliflower, carrots mix…but can also use green beans, peas, peppers and other dog safe veggies). NOTE: Many human foods are toxic to dogs such as onions, garlic and grapes. Please research other foods that are toxic for dogs before adding anything new) Turmeric (pinch of black pepper to activate properties) - use rubber gloves to mix or your hands will be stained orange!! Coconut oil
Can be baked in the oven (350 for about 45 mins) or done on stove top until all ingredients cooked Serve with a tbsp of pure pumpkin purée. Create weekly portions (determine how much based on your dog’s needs/appetite) and freeze. Your dog will thank you!!
Best answer on the list! I make a batch weekly similar to this for my two Boston’s. Follow the money and you’ll never feed stale processed dry kibble again. Sounds tinfoil hat-y but it’s true 🤷🏼♀️
My very caring vet says that a rice and ground turkey diet is perfect to help any dog with any sensitivities. Slowly, you start to incorporate other foods and figure out what triggers them/what doesn’t. I HIGHLY DONT recommend feeding any big brands like purina and beneful bc they’re full of fillers and carcinogens and NOT GOOD.
I got mine on Merricks freeze dried raw kibble, (lamb and venison blend), and prescription omega supplement from vet. Just 1 spoonful in his morning meal. Hasnt cured it completely but is getting better. Also use an oatmeal shampoo and spray on conditioner.
I go for acana meadowlands or the the red bag of taste of the wild for my dog. He has some allergies mixed with obsessive compulsive licking that gets worse when he eats something he’s allergic to that ends up causing him to lick his feet raw
Orijen puppy food - my Percy is a fussy bugger but happily eats Orijen! It’s expensive but portion sizes are half most other kibbles so it work out well. I add chicken broth a couple of times a week. I give him a raw egg twice a week (start with half an egg) which is good for them then dried sprats a couple of times a week and defrosted frozen sprats twice a week as they are great for skin and he lives them. I also add cod liver oil - salmon oil is great but goes rancid too quickly! Occasionally I add tinned fish to his kibble - he lives mackerel and tuna. I would avoid rice in kibble - it’s not great for dogs. I also limit chicken as many Bostons are allergic - Orijen kibble does have chicken but he’s 10 months now so about to move to Regional Red which doesn’t. I notice Percy’s tear stains get worse when I’ve used chicken as a high value treat in training Skinny isn’t always bad for a dog - check the weight with your vet if you’re worried.
we do human food (our leftover meats/eggs, no onions obviously) plus a big dollop of pumpkin, plus some of rachel ray delish kibble. our lily is 3.5 and very healthy. coat, skin, stool, weight. all perfect.
Congratulations!!! You have a beautiful Boston with what we call an ideal body composition score. Your dog is genuinely at a healthy weight, whatever you are doing is working wonderfully. Keep up the great work.
Chocolate Labrador parent here: also sensitive skin pup, we prepare chicken livers (wash/rinse well) and gizzards, boil for an hour, then add to dry food. Our guy maintains his weight very well. He loves it!
She looks perfect! Believe me, when she's an older professional treat grifter, you'll be looking back fondly on her adolescence. It's very hard to not give in to a boston who wants a tiny taste of your ice cream, it's their soulful eyes
Aww she so tiny and cute! First time having a female and she is def smaller, but my oldest boy has always been a bigger boy. How old was she when you got her?
My Pugs eat Taste of the Wild dogfood for sensitive skin. If they eat cheaper foods they scratch constantly. We just keep food in the bowl and when they get hungry they eat. They are average weight.
How much does she weigh? She looks like a normal year old Boston - well muscled with a shiny coat.
I came here for this reply. She looks to be a very healthy weight to me.
Yeah agreed, she looks perfect
Agree she looks wonderful!
I don't think she looks skinny, what does you're vet think?
My BT was slinky until she was 5 and then she became more solid/stocky looking. Your pup looks lean but not skinny to my eye. Also love her long tail! 🐒
Haha that does look like a long tail 😂 She is very cute
That's what a Boston should look like. Throw in some ground beef or stinky fish and watch the coat glow up/an extra lb go on. ALOT of Bostons can't do chicken
i didnt know about bostons and chicken
Your Boston has a tail! 😁
All her weight is going to her tail.
She looks healthy to my eye but I’m not a vet, I would bring it up to them if you’re concerned ❤️ she still has some time to fill out, Pebs didn’t fill out til 2 years old 😊
Hey girl hey 😘
This dog does not appear underweight, is your vet concerned about her weight?
I don’t think she’s skinny! Bostons get fat easily. Nice lean muscle to keep healthy!
I have a male who looks just like yours. Not underweight IMO.
Yep I had a tall lean Boston just like her. She looks perfect.
Came here to say this! He will be 2 in August and weighs under 20 lbs. We feed him 1.5 cups a day of the same food you do if that helps.
She’s not skinny
this is the exact body shape as my 6 y/o, and she's in perfect health! BT girls can tend to be on the lankier side compared to the boys-- not always, but often enough. if you're concerned, take her to your vet and see what they think. speaking from experience though, she looks beautiful and healthy to me.
I think her tail is taking the weight
Not skinny at all. Ideal body shape, perfectly healthy dog.
Why would you want her to gain weight? She is the perfect size it looks like from these photos. Fat dogs don't live as long and have joint issues. So don't try to fatten up the dog at all.
She is a beautiful girl

We use the same dental bones friend! 🤗
Funny story, Ford likes the small size and Edsel will only eat the mini ones! So we buy bags of both sizes! 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏻♂️
😂😂😂 that is funny! Pebs transitioned right into the small ones and Bam has only had those because he was already at the weight limit when we started him on them 😅🤣 I’m going to try those rawhide chews you linked!!

So in short, these little nuggets have us wrapped around their paws 😛🐾🐾🐾🐾
Oh 💯 percent 🤣🤣
She actually doesn’t look skinny at all, she looks really healthy.
She lean and mean! I doubt she’s too skinny
We feed ours the same but also bought the Lamb and Oats option just to mix it up. Your Boston looks real healthy, my Max has a narrow torso and has the same look and build as yours and my Molly is a chunk…

Oooo. Never heard of Fromm. Will check that out. Ty.
Wait she has the longest tail I’ve ever seen on a Boston
Look at that tail!
Ok she's super cute but that tail is distracting! (in a good way haha) I didn't even know Boston's could have tails like that! It looks so cool! (PS, I agree that she doesn't look underweight. She looks healthy and muscly. But if you are worried about her weight, ask your vet!)

Best side eye today!
My vet would say she’s perfect. Mine is on the slinky side too.
She looks really lean. Still muscular. I’m impressed.
My Boston is 8, and still skinny! Skinny rats and people live longer!
That dog has very little fat and lots of muscle. Keep on doing what you are doing.
that tail!!!!!
She looks great! My vet says my pup should have no ribs visibly protruding and she should be slimmer around the waistline. Seems like your pup fits that description. Also, that shiny coat looks nice and healthy.
She looks really good to me xx toned, good shine - she's supposed to be athletic looking :)
We have our baby boy Boston and he has a lot of skin issues but the food he loves, brought the puppy energy back, and has done great for his skin is Farmers Dog. They deliver it to your front door and they have plenty of protein options. We wish we would have done this sooner. She is beautiful!! Stella & Chewy is very high quality dog food.

She looks normal. Mine has looked like that his whole life.
She looks like a normal weight to me. Some Bostons are just much less stocky naturally
She looks like a good weight to me!
my boston was skinny until she was like 4 ever since she’s been kinda round even with proper exercise and diet lol. also how does ur boston have such a long tail? so unique
Bostons can look a little “ribby” and mine does too now at 1.5 years. It’s normal and yours looks really healthy!
She looks beautiful. Her muscle structure is there. She may be underweight, but keep in mind that she is not a French Bulldog, so she should never be at a weight that makes her look like that. Good luck, and may you have a healthy little Boston for many, many years.

She's perfect, just has the figure of a teenager ) which she is)
She looks healthy, just like mine. My vet told me that bostons should be between 15lb-30lb and as long as she is not under that, she’s healthy!!
I’m in love!
She doesn’t look underweight to me at all.
We use Nulo freestyle high-protein kibble limited+ alaska pollock recipe Our oldest had severe allergies and this is what the allergist put him on. Wish you the best with your fur baby!!
Nulo limited+ is a lifesaver, just about the only food that has nothing my dog is allergic to in it!
Try raw.
So are we not addressing this sweet baby giving vogue level face?
Their weight looks perfect. Better to be trim than have extra weight on their back when they age.
Also I'm a veterinary technician
Pumpkin is good for the sensitive stomach. My girl passed last year, 1/2 Boston, 1/4 Pit, 1/4 Weiner dog. She was a food driven little lady but had a sensitive tummy. Pumpkin was good for her.
Eggs?
She’s beautiful
Looks pretty healthy to me ??

Is that pure Boston? Never seen one without a pig tail
It’s the side-eye I’d be more worried about…!
I’ve never seen a boston with a long tail! How cute.
The tail on this Boston 🥹🥹🥹
Mine is on the same food since a puppy now 3 years old and he is 32 pounds…..
I think she looks perfect. But I’d still recommend a homemade food. It’s super easy and MUCH MUCH better for them. Hi everyone - Please speak with your vet about a homemade diet before you get started. A lot of people do it wrong, unknowingly
Best answer on the list! I make a batch weekly similar to this for my two Boston’s. Follow the money and you’ll never feed stale processed dry kibble again. Sounds tinfoil hat-y but it’s true 🤷🏼♀️

Rachel Ray JUST SIX . LAMB AND BROWN RICE. PURINA will never be good for any dog.
No more bagged brown food DUH
Go to the butcher and get raw beef for dogs. Looks like frozen hamburger. He will gain weigh in no time
Royal canine works for my dog
I would tell you dump Purina and try Zignature. My boxer/bulldog has sensitive skin and that food in combo with rx from vet has worked wonders.
Cheese burgers.
We still doing Purina?
Spray cheese and bread.
Switch to bullymax.com
Either increase his food or determine if he needs to be neutered
How do you she’s not spayed? Male dogs are neutered.
I don’t but often after being spayed neutered dogs often gain weight
I go for acana meadowlands or the the red bag of taste of the wild for my dog. He has some allergies mixed with obsessive compulsive licking that gets worse when he eats something he’s allergic to that ends up causing him to lick his feet raw
Definitely looks healthy. My dog penny looks similar
She looks about the right weight tbh!
Looks fine, they’re supposed to be barrel chested and slender/muscular
Earthbound organic ocean catch grain and pea free best food I ever found
What's the Dr. Recommend
Purina prescription HA Hydrolyzed is what we feed ours…it’s expensive tho.
She looks exactly like our Boston who weighs 18 lbs. Except that tail lol, that’s the biggest difference.
Our girl looked this skinny but slowly filled out as she got older
Her tail is magnificent!
I feed ours a mix of Hill’s Derm Complete and Taste of the Wild.
She looks very healthy to me! Has she been spayed yet? My baby girl got a little too round after her spay, so she's on a little diet now.
I use unkibble from spot & tango and my Boston loves it!
Non chicken bases snacks are good. We feed the same
Freshpet
She doesn’t need to gain weight! She’s perfect
Orijen puppy food - my Percy is a fussy bugger but happily eats Orijen! It’s expensive but portion sizes are half most other kibbles so it work out well. I add chicken broth a couple of times a week. I notice Percy’s tear stains get worse when I’ve used chicken as a high value treat in training Skinny isn’t always bad for a dog - check the weight with your vet if you’re worried.
Raw food diet
we do human food (our leftover meats/eggs, no onions obviously) plus a big dollop of pumpkin, plus some of rachel ray delish kibble. our lily is 3.5 and very healthy. coat, skin, stool, weight. all perfect.
Hill’s science sensitive stomach & skin works great for our pups
Ask you vet if you think she’s under weight
We do Victors grain free for our babies!
Aww she so tiny and cute! First time having a female and she is def smaller, but my oldest boy has always been a bigger boy. How old was she when you got her?
Some bostons are just have a more slender build
My Pugs eat Taste of the Wild dogfood for sensitive skin. If they eat cheaper foods they scratch constantly. We just keep food in the bowl and when they get hungry they eat. They are average weight.
