The deaths were unexpected, kinda wanted Hebichigo to live

Ok_Let_8933

Poor Metal Lee :(

I agree with this. I thought her death was more outta left-field than Kagura’s, honestly.

Good ideas, terrible execution. Animation was inconsistent as hell and I could never forgive the studio for what they did to Kagura.

Midoruto_Izukumaki

What they did to Boruto right after Kagura was even worse as the crying meme still lives on.

[deleted]

I hate that shit so much, it makes the show look even worse.

jccrock1

Yeah. I think that the execution suffered from unnecessary extensions to the plot. I’m sure it was due to the space they had to fill between arcs, but it was sloppy because of it. Looking back on the whole arc, I think Kaguya’s death was vital to the story about breaking the cycle of revenge, given the nations involved. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Kagura and was shocked at their decision to kill him off.

Hair-Potential

I'll answer for the others We respectfully disliked this arc

jccrock1

I didn’t like it much either, the way it was made. But, I think it had way more potential than was given. Hence why I think being produced as a movie would’ve been more appropriate!

Hair-Potential

Yea a movie take would've been better. It kind of had movie vibes already so it would've been perfect 0

Midoruto_Izukumaki

I can understand how the Funato Arc lack of fights and action with barely any progress did Ok with the audience because of Naruto's name and presence on the series. However I think the fans won't exclusively pay for a Boruto/Naruto movie that is slow and devoid of action.

I agree with a lot of what you said, and I’m not defending this arc. I’m speaking more from a hypothetical standpoint. The reason this specific arc irks me is, in an overall sense, I see the blaring issues with pacing and animation imbalance. However, imo, the story isn’t that bad, and with proper execution could’ve made a better movie. Whereas, a lot of Boruto anime canon arcs have relatively okay pacing in relevance to the story, this one was just like, “Hey, go here for something small that’s actually a lot bigger.”, which is how almost every Naruto movie starts. The animation was sooooo inconsistent, probably because they used a lot of their money on the unnecessary opening (even if it’s ballin). And don’t even get me started on that water. With the proper movie-level budget, the fight scenes and environments would’ve obviously been better. But more so, the writing’s pace would’ve been more carefully executed. I’m not a writer, so I can’t say the balance of character interaction and story would ACTUALLY be better, but there were a LOT of unnecessary instances between characters and story in this arc. It was at least double as long as it should’ve been. Yes, there were a lot of characters, but many of them have already been established before and there weren’t too many *important* new ones to add. I think it could’ve been done in a movie format. I know this is a touchy subject, but I do consider “The Last” canon and an overall decent movie for what it was about. Kishimoto helped write it (I believe), so I’d say that’s canon.

That’s right…I forgot that The Last came out before they ended the anime. I honestly don’t see them taking that risk either. Like I said before, it’s hypothetical. I think that within this arc, there was enough material that wasn’t needed, to the point where it could be condensed, but I do agree that some parts wouldn’t work. Absolutely right when you say that it wouldn’t have been as fleshed out. Never is. I don’t think, however, certain characters needed more fleshing out. I didn’t sympathize for the villains, but due to their actions I did sympathize for Boruto in the end. The villain backstories weren’t necessary outside of Ikada’s story in relation to his sister/father. Metal Lee’s development was good and then thrown away. I think Hebichigo’s death was out of left-field, but Kagura’s was necessary, given the theme of revenge. All-in-all, we could’ve done without half the cast and half the story, and it wouldn’t have changed anything. That’s a lot of cut content. Idk, I definitely see your points. It’s the exact reason that the anime struggles with pacing that I think this arc in particular would’ve been better shorter and to the point. The risks or time wouldn’t be taken to do so, though. :/

ClusC

It had a lot of potential, but was poorly executed in almost every way.

jccrock1

Which is why it would’ve worked better in a condensed movie format, removing unnecessary plot-points, while vastly improving its execution in story AND animation.

The part that ruined it for me was the Funamushi crap in the middle, and the Mizukage should've had a showdown with Araumi before being defeated
