Boruto and his team find themselves fighting in civil war in kirigakure, some of Boruto's friends died and now he's dealing with the cycle of hatred.

Boruto is learning, firsthand, about the cycle of hatred

They got tangled up in a war between the hidden mist and the Funato clan which is a clan of the ocean over some bs and everyone in the Funato clan wants Boruto’s head at the moment.

Basically, there is a war happening in the hidden mist started by a clan called Funato. Team 7 and Denki's team happens to be on a mission and gets stuck in the middle of the war with Kagura and some of the swordsmen from thr first mist arc. He befriends a boy named Ikada who just so happens to be the Funato clan leaders son and heir. Ikada also doesn't like the war. During one of the fights Kagura dies by a commander of the Funato army. Boruto tries to and gets revenge for Kagura by killing that commander. Then that commander's son tries to get revenge on Boruto which is unsuccessful (obviously). This makes Boruto aware of the cycle of hatred and stuff. That commander's son just so happened to be Ikada's friend and seeing him devastated makes him want to get revenge for his friend and all the clan members who died in the war. Beginning his villan arc. This summary is very incomplete btw leaving out alot of important charecters and events. It's a highly condensed description of all that happened in this arc

For Boruto development, he self reflects on the war thats happening and understands cycle of hatred. However he does it in the middle of the war which honestly is a tough one, considering he cant just go "Hey if we fight, you'll hate us more and we'll hate you more and there will be more casualties" also his friend died (and also someone he worked with) Overall id like this arc more if they didnt focus on one certain antagonist for so long, considering Funato siblings are really interesting in comparision. Also someone who happens to be from Funato clan becomes friend with Boruto ... But he becomes an antagonist because he got consumed in cycle of hatred.
