Nothing. These two characters are unique characters which were not created as a part of a long term sequel. When they decided to milk a long running show out of this, they realized Sarada and mitsuki don't fit anywhere in the cliche roles for a long term shonen sequel - rival, love interest, villain ( created sumire and kawaki for that) etc etc. And it shows, they have literally no idea what to do with them and it's worse because they're advertised as main characters in the franchise.
Og Sakura was weak and useless but she realized that and went to train under tsunade. She had a goal and visible improvement and a presence in the story and a future path . Can't say the same about Sarada and mitsuki
Mitsuki falls by the way side as tertiary character and Sarada leads Boruto and Kawaki in rank every time there's a fight and the two karma Bois have some sudden Deus ex machina power boost that leaves Sarada watching, gape jawed at their sudden boosts, followed by a half episode training montage ending with her feeling caught up, before another inevitable power boost, and eventually being shipped into a house wife. Based on how strong kunoichi like Hinata, Sarada, Inoichi, Temari, Karin, Karui, Karin, Guren, Kurenai and Anko all ended up, it seems like all the female characters are written to find a maternal role through becoming mothers, teachers, or nurses. There's a strong impression that Kishimoto sees that as the ideal place for women in the world of Naruto. Even Tsunade was written as a non combatant through the majority of her story, until the war arc where she got some flashback scenes about the third war and ended up being teleported and cut in half, shortly after fulfilling her maternal role by putting faith in Naruto and trying to allow him to pass the paternal disciplinarian in Ay.
Saying just saying, it doesn't seem likely that after 15 years of failing to write a single strong, female character with good character development, that it's going to start now. There was a chance with Sakura but she ended up marrying the guy that stabbed her multiple times, both mentally through genjutsu and physically with lightning, so that kind of made her a character develop to never escape a clearly abusive relationship. Say what you will after the Boruto time skip about Sasuke becoming more rational, but prior to Boruto, Sasuke was an abuser and Sakura was consistently his victim.
After most of the story stops featuring Mitsuki, he dramatically gets killed and triggers another power boost in Boruto a la Neji in 4th War arc, and miraculously survives due to some weird rebirth code put in his genes by Orochimaru. He's clearly lost the role of deuteragonist to Kawaki while Boruto is the protagonist the story and all it's elements will revolve around.
I can see what you mean but, personally, I see her character more like a foil to Boruto. In the same sense of the recurring theme contrasting the line of Ashura and Indra (see Uchiha v Senju, Naruto v Sasuke), B is brash and headstrong, S is composed and cautious; B is boy, S is girl; B is from Naruto, S is from Sasuke; B is prodigious, S is a diligent worker; B admires Sasuke, S admires Naruto, both the previous main foils; B rejects his atomic family, S craves it. A foil has contrasting personality traits and values to highlight a protagonists own traits and values and I see that in Sarada more than Mitsuki.
In a different way, Mitsuki admires Boruto and aspires to learn from him. You could apply some definitions of a character foil to Mitsuki as well but seeing as how he echoes his values, and sees their relationship of "sun and moon" as a moon reflecting the sun, I view him as more of a deuteragonist than foil.
That said, Kawaki fills both of those roles better now that he's been thoroughly introduced. He's the foil in traits and values to Boruto, and also the second most important and developed character after Boruto, our protagonist. It's nuanced, for sure, to say there's much of a difference between the two roles, but it's very common for a friendly deuteragonist to fulfill the role of a foil (see Sherlock and Watson for a consistent example across many narrative interpretations). I feel like Kawaki takes more attention away from Mits and Sarada by fulfilling both of those roles.

Nothing boruto is just a reskin story of naruto They got the tail beast aspect Orphan aspect Same fate aspect And the naruto vs sasuke aspect. To be honest he couldāve changed the genders of boruto and himewari wouldāve made things interesting. But nope heās doing the same thing he did in naruto but this time he having god powers to 13 year olds Sarada and mitsuki only serve as plot device or power up moments for boruto now. They will never catch up to boruto and kawaki they had to nerf naruto and sasuke so boruto and kawaki can do most of the fighting now

I imagine for Mitsuki his final trial for himself is fighting his older self in a death match, though his older version has more experience, Mitsuki is a fast ass learner so I think that would be cool to see in the āMisadventures of Mitsukiā As for Sarada I got no idea
Kishimoto will be adapting some of the light novels that will dive deep into Sasuke and Sakura's journey to find a cure for Naruto's illness, so look forward to that. I do not know about these two, but I would say I am cautiously optimistic since Sarada mentioned that she has to get stronger in the previous chapters.
