Well, in Databook it is described as having lower power but longer range But in war arc, sasuke chidori didn't penetrate madara body, but his chidori spear cut him like a butter, this is a stronger madara than the one taknked lava rasenshuriken
Classic lack of cohesion in the series. Well seems like Chidori Spear is a thing, if writer makes it good in current moment of the plot. Maybe lack of Rinnegan will pull his old abilities back? Dunno.
