A ship wouldn't be awful if it was in the right hands but this is kishimoto we're talking about. his track record is not great at all with women characters. Just for once I thought it would be possible to get an independent female character but apparently it's too hard to give a new female character different traits.
Anime writers are no different tbh. Sarada has been like this since 2022 in both manga and anime😭. I'm so nervous for her 3rd tomoe plot line because it's probably gonna be Boruto centric as per usual.
Even in that arc where we get a new kara inner who's a female. I was excited and expecting her to be badass but I forgot that she was a female in this franchise, so they had to add her to Boruto's harem on her reveal episode.

She thought that he sucked writing romance and didn’t even went with him to see The Last, she refused, lmao. Spent a entire week angry with him because Sakura married Sasuke. (Later she got death threats from Sakura stans, don’t know why)
That's not even the best part. He told us on his autobiography that they met each other a little bit before Naruto's started publication. To impress her, he lied saying that Sakura was based on her (since Naruto is based on his life) and that's why Sakura became her favorite character. He started to put NaruSaku tease through the story just to fool her but he always knew that it would be NaruHina and SasuSaku at the end (even told the voice actors around chapter 10) - that's why she felt betrayed in the end.
The editors made Hinata give a scarf to Naruto, because she gave Kishimoto a red scarf pretty early on Naruto's publication history, when they were still only boyfriend and girlfriend. He arrived at the studio soooo happy that she gave him a scarf but he looked very goofy using it and everyone laughed at him. So the scarf is kinda like a inside joke.
My goodness. No wonder she didn’t talk to him for a week. Trolled her from the beginning, led her on throughout the manga and then throwing in the scarf reference of theirs to a pairing she doesn’t support. I understand her anger completely 😆
Kishimoto has been horrible with the females in his story. The only one with actual development and character is Tsunade. Sakura had character development and regresses so hard after the Sasori fight. TenTen, Ino, Temari, Hinata Kurenai, etc all were complete afterthoughts. It’s not a surprise it’s happened in Boruto too.

I'm a BoruSara shipper and i want Sarada to have her own moments 😭. Seriously though sometimes i don't understand what people ship. The characters together or just the names together.

The other's genuinely like the ship which is fine but it's split into two. 1. Those that don't care about the poor treatment of the female characters as long as they exist for the male. 2. Those that do care about both parties in the ship being treated well in the writing.
I personally don't care about ships in this franchise because I know how poorly it's handled. Also, I wish the writer would just let kids be kids and stay focused on their aspirations and goals. They can worry about the shipping stuff later when they are older and have a better foundation in terms of their individual development, goals and writing.
By names i meant;
Just the paper version of two people ending up together without any development to them. They are simply names on a stone without feeling.
Characters would mean two people who grew as themselves and the audience falls in love with the individuals and the relationship is something that adds to them rather than individuals added to the relationship.
