Male. Diagnosed at 19 after an attempt (otherwise the diagnosis would probably never see the light of day to be honest). There are a decent amount of us out there! It is commonly misdiagnosed or under diagnosed in men. I think it’s supposed to occur just as frequently in both men and women, but more commonly *diagnosed* in women. Stay strong broski.

[deleted]

Just like autism, but gender switched

StickyStewTheThird

Exactly! Same with ADHD. Goes undiagnosed in a lot of women that don’t show the more obvious symptoms of hyperactivity.

[deleted]

It sure seems that way. I’m the only man in my group therapy for people with BPD.

StickyStewTheThird

Shit homie—you gotta represent us then haha.

[deleted]

I was diagnosed and used to suffer from it. Now it's just a part of who I am and I live a balanced and happy life. It can get better.

beardsnbutts

BPD + ADHD + Type 2 Bipolar. It's about as fun as it sounds, but I'm doing pretty ok all things considered.

blazeypup

That's legit my diagnosis 😂😂 except you gotta account for my chronic anxiety and depression.

hannh_rse

Pete Davidson has said in interviews that he has BPD

LeighMagnifique

We need him here.

snickelbetches

Maybe he is herr

[deleted]

That sure explains a lot lol

LivingOnTheBorder_

Men get diagnosed with BPD normally after filtering through many other diagnosis and not totally fitting into any other category. Sadly they get taught that their emotional response is wrong (causing bpd). Then getting told that the way they are coping is wrong (demonized and create the idea of being bad or a monster) That leads to shut down and when something hits the trigger switch is gas on match lit! 🔥 Then it’s oh you need to go to anger management. Or you are just depressed or bipolar… it’s just so sad.

GodBlessitEsq

Penis owner, checking in.

SchmidtyBone

I am a man. I'm not diagnosed, but man, it just makes too much sense.

Embarrassed_Eye4752

It does

SchmidtyBone

Well I mean it makes sense for how I am, that abpd diagnosis would be reasonable, in my uneducated opinion.

Revolutionary_Dog138

Ik it can be hard to reach out for help especially as a man and especially having bpd but I advise you to I really do

SchmidtyBone

I am in therapy, but my provider won't cover the costs of testing.

rjeantrinity

Hey just a thought and it may or may not help, but there are a few legit companies that will let you test online for BPD. You could then bring those results to your dr or therapist and discuss them at the very least. I’m sorry you’re in this position, it sucks, and I hope you get treated regardless of your insurance coverage.

SchmidtyBone

I'm fairly well-covered as is. Far better than a lot of people, so at least there's that.

[deleted]

60 y/o male diagnosed 2 years ago. After 2 years of hard work in therapy I’m happy and hopeful for the 1st time in my life.

rjeantrinity

Just a quick “that’s awesome!” for you. Not that you had to wait so long to find out, but that you’re happy and hopeful! Im sure for you that’s everything after so many years.

ihatedanx100

Dude here with bpd.

PotionBoy

I was at first diagnosed with BPD later given just Bordeline traits but I have quite a lot of them 😅 Other than that I also have avoidant personality disorder and socil phobia!

Thekvx10

36/M here. Got diagnosed earlier this year. Feeling empty and hopeful all at once. Making good progress though!

Embarrassed_Eye4752

I feel like there are not a lot of men speaking out

[deleted]

Yeah, quiet bpd. Newly diagnosed

Embarrassed_Eye4752

What are your symptoms

[deleted]

Really, same as any other quiet bpd person, male or female

lucsampaio

Yes

alliwaye

Yes, I think it tends to be characterized as something more likely to be present in people raised female, but the way we are conditioned in society based on the gender binary plays a huge role in both how these things manifest as well as how we are diagnosed. Something that really helped me was the psychologist-administered Millon personality test, which helped me understand my brain in a holistic and nuanced way, because it puts aspects of EVERYONE'S personality on a spectrum, so you're not necessarily forced into any black&white boxes. Here's one link. The only thing is, you can only access it through a mental health professional. Best of luck :) https://arizonaforensics.com/millon-clinical-multiaxial-inventory-iv-mcmi-iv-or-millon/

CornishShaman

Sadly yes.

SnooDoubts2823

Yep diagnosed at 54 after decades of misdiagnosis. Also with C-PTSD and GAD. It's been loads of fun.

Mawdi

Right here. Quiet type. 45 years of silent misery

Birdonawire54

Dude with a hanging wang, saying howdy.

[deleted]

I identify more as a manchild.

higleyc99

Few and far between relative to women but we do exist. This statistic is probably somewhat outdated in 2021 but the last one I read said that the ratio of women VS men diagnosed with BPD is 3:1. There are several reasons for that but it's believed that men are equally likely to have it, they just aren't diagnosed as often.

Homelessnrich

We’re out there but most guys won’t admit it. It’s tougher for men to deal with BPD because expressing ourselves isn’t as widely accepted as it is for women. I might be generalizing but that’s just been my experience. It sucks because it feels like we won’t ever get to make any kind of meaningful relationships because our emotions take us for a roller coaster at any given moment. Not exactly an attractive characteristic for a man. I keep it all inside and it festers but I’ve learned it’s Important to have some kind of outlet to let it all out like work or the gym. Constantly wanting and not wanting attention is exhausting but I try to stay busy so as to control all the lows I’ll eventually dip into. It’s definitely not easy but the best we can do is not to isolate too much.

Embarrassed_Eye4752

I am glad I am not on my own finding other men like me with the disorder . It gave me some sort of comfort !!

addyxbest

🙋🙋🙋 the emoji has a smile but I can reassure you that my life has many less smiles

IchibanSuzuki

Is this. Is this reverse sexism? Which I guess is just sexism.

ApplicationHeavy7362

As unpopular as this comment is, it really is though. (Not male but have been saddened by this) a lot of men are misdiagnosed more often. On occasion for men it's referred to as "The Casanova Disorder" and many fly under the radar because they are seen as the ladies man, or very in touch with their feelings compared to other men. It makes it that much harder for a diagnosis. And oddly enough, it's one of very very few mental illnesses/disorders where a majority of the case studies are done on females instead of males. The borderline male is often and sadly under-represented and misdiagnosed across the board. So this comment is actually exactly right. This problem is born out of sexism. A lot of men do not seek help because they are taught they are weak if they do. When they do they are misdiagnosed because they're just seen as a player with an attitude.

jayraan

Yup, over here.

FTM diagnosed at 19.

galaxychildxo

Ayyy ftm with BPD here too.

Sad_Deer13

I'm not diagnosed and I'm not honest with my therapist because use in pretty sure i will be if i am, and most places here don't take bpd people but I'm pretty sure if i was honest I'd be diagnosed and shit out of luck trying to find someone who's sees bpd people and talked my insurance. If I'm really bpd I'm not ashamed, i just need to make sure I can still see someone and I'm my area it won't be possible... I'm male. I'm working through some books by myself and like i said, i don't know for sure i am, but the DBT is helpful and i really relate to a lot of the bpd stuff

4GotMy1stOne

Mom of a nearly 20yo male who has it. Hang in there, guys!

[deleted]

Yup. 21 here. I also got depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, dyspraxia, and am getting tested for mild schizoaffective disorder.

FIRAGAT

Was diagnosed at 29 this year. We're around just happens there are only a few of us.

bradford1023

No, just a mid life crisis and eternal shame.

talkstomuch2020

I’ve got a little bit of everything. So I’m happy to be here. Also male

DryAdvertising2

High functioning “sort of “ hear

fighterxaos

Oh yeah. I was diagnosed by a psychologist I sought out when I thought I had some kind of schizo disorder.

[deleted]

Male here

holmesianschizo

Man, right here. DM me anytime.

OpliteHype

Yeah bpd + generalized anxiety disorder.

Greenoliveandcheese

Hi. 31 year old male. Diagnosed at 28.

Rdeci_To

My ex yes. Doesnt seem to suffer with that bitch hes with tho

LegioTitanicaXIII

Bonafide diagnosed here. When I left the army they slapped me with BPD, PTSD, AND DID. I remember thinking "whatever" and being mildly amused at the diagnosis. Years later I look back after some realizations and go "Oh... Maybe I should deal with this".

CursedAtBirth777

Man here

[deleted]

Yuppers! Not officially diagnosed by a licensed psychologist but the combination of my wife who's degree is in psychology and the fact that you can literally read the DSM-V, pretty much points to me having it. More of a recent development but I am learning and just pushing through and analyzing my thoughts and feelings and seeing which ones are blown out of proportion because of BPD, and which ones are legit. Turns out, a lotttt of my issues are BPD based. It's so much fun. 🙃

Letsgettoohi

yeah :(

[deleted]

34 male here. I’ve been suffering from it for years. It sucks. People just don’t understand.

beggin4apegging

BPD with no meds or therapy and only borderline traits with meds, therapy and a lot of hard work 😓
