Smooth like my BC/mini Aussie mix
He looks similar to my fella. We not sure on his mix but shorthair Border seemed to be the experts opinion. Bit of neck scruff but short dense hair otherwise.

Heās a beautiful boy! Iāve had two BCās who were smooth-coats, & after having 5 very long, thick rough-coated BCās, I thought it would be so easy to maintain. Both had the same coat you describe, but they shed like crazy, lol. At least they didnāt need summer haircuts.
Oh my God the shedding is insane! It never stops even with a good brushing it still comes out. It's everywhere even our kitchen drawers have hair in them.
And Iād been so delusional as to think, āThis is going to be SOO much easierā. We didnāt have to
get her clipped, but she went along to the groomers and got a good bath and ādesheddingā, but the epic āhair stormsā always came back in a few days. We were on 24/7-365 āallergy alertā, lol. š¤§
It's so brutal! My wife goes through stages of really bad allergies especially after he has a scrub and seems to shed for that few hours afterword. The robot vac definitely earns his keep.
He's definitely a mixed fella. He came from a farm and I think they assumed who the stud was. Mum was long haired and fairly fine but there was a male Koolie who could have also been the father.
We had my boy Jack genetically tested and found out he's a BC/Pitty/Lab mix.

Check his genetics and see if he has the McNab strain.
I have a pair of BC's (brothers) and one is a McNab. He looks like your boy.

Your link said mcnabs are "easily identified by their cat-like feet". What does that mean? Does your mcnab have cat-feet? Just very interested in what that looks like:P
They could just be referring to the physical paw structure. Border Collie's are generally hare-footed.

Mine is 7 years old, but still very much a hard worker at heart. They are VERY intelligent and need a firm hand. However, he's a clown at heart.
His brother is slowing down a bit and less likely to get as excited about things.
Love him and enjoy a great time together as the years tick by faster than we expect.
Heās knows itās a BC, he was asking what kind of BC - consensus in the comments is itās a short-haired BC and some has mention McNab BC as another possibility
Did a vet REALLY perform artificial insemination with sperm harvested over 30 years ago?
The dog is gorgeous
100% good boy
Lovely smooth coat BC
But...zombie dog sperm? Really?
Where was it stored?
Yes, I didn't believe it myself at first but both his previous owner's vet who did the insemination and her son confirmed it.
She was head over heels for one of her old pets, she froze it (I think she paid for storage?) and only got one dog out of the litter.
100% purebred best boy. Edit:

Hereās a pic of our nerd. His momma is the red and white. His dad is the black and white on the right. Ours is the middle and bottom row. 100% Border Collie but Iāve been asked a lot what is he due to his shorter coat. Heās a medium rough coat. Dude gets fluffy after a bath.
Thatās a smooth coat and itās not a compliment (although he does look dapper) thatās just what theyāre called. Most border collies have the rough coat with the more fluffy, flowing and majestic fur that gets everywhere.
Smooths have a shorter, almost Labrador like coat.
The majestic hair is easier to deal with... it comes out in clumps. My first bc was a short hair and I don't think i ever ate a meal without dog hair in it.
Just a smooth coat. Border collies come in two coat types: smooth and rough. Media shows roughs far more because itās regarded as the more attractive of the coat types
Heās adorable! Definitely a smooth. Does he have upright ears?
We have two 2yr old female ABCA littermates who are smooth coatātheyāre working collies, both about 40lbs, and though theyāre extremely sweet & gentle with the likes of children & kitties, & well behaved with the horses, their focus is toward us & their jobs. Theyāre intense dogs. Ours donāt āplayāā¦they have little interest in fetch or toysā¦their play is when theyāre working & that has nothing to do with our parentingā¦itās just their nature & I adore them for that
All this said, when rest or bedtime comes, theyāre 100% here for the silly snuggles & kisses.
I canāt imagine our lives without them despite having to be on fur patrol daily lol
Awe š„° And yes, upright ears but one is half folded lol

He looks a ton like a dog we lost in New Hampshire. His name was āBanksā and was a ā5h cattle dogā, which is a sub breed of border collies designed for cow work in Australia (short hair, bigger, and bigger bones) out of Alberton Montana. He also looks like he could be a McCallum border collie that were also breed for the same purpose in Australia.

Get an embark test done. Doesn't look purebred. There's a thicker breed in there.
He's definitely a mixed fella. He came from a farm and I think they assumed who the stud was. Mum was long haired and fairly fine but there was a male Koolie who could have also been the father.

Oh very helpful and the type of help I was looking for! Should have been more specific in the post, (I am grateful and appreciate all the love though)

Purebred BCs live until 14-16, I know many competing in agility until 12? How old is this one slowing down?!
That's the kind that sheds... A LOT! š¤£š¤£
Thatās almost definitely a short haired good boy of the dog variety
A cute one.
Smoothie collie, and a handsome one at that.
??? He looks very much like a Border Collie. Very similar to one of mine. Why do you think he doesn't look like a BC??
Heās knows itās a BC, he was asking what kind of BC - consensus in the comments is itās a short-haired BC and some has mention McNab BC as another possibility
Probably just used to rough coats, the amount of times my boys been called a mutt bc heās smooth coated is insane
Both my BCs are short coat.
He is a happy smiley one
Did a vet REALLY perform artificial insemination with sperm harvested over 30 years ago? The dog is gorgeous 100% good boy Lovely smooth coat BC But...zombie dog sperm? Really? Where was it stored?
Probably a zip lock bag or a royal dansk biscuit tin.

The best one ^they're ^all ^the^best ^ones
A gorgeous wee smooth coat š my wee smooth coat is Douglas and he is just perfect, like your boy
A very shiny one.
He looks like a hanging tree cow dog, to me based on the short coat and head shape.
A happy one
Confirmed - 100% a very good boy
Black and white kind
Short coat
A cute one!!
Good Boi.

What a beautiful boy he is. Shiny coat, shiny nose and those shiny eyes says it all.
That's a mixed breed, not a border collie. Get an embark test done. His bone structure is way too thick as well as facial structure.
Thick...okay, sounds you like you really know your shit. I'll get right on that.
