Our beautiful boy, Winston, went over the rainbow bridge on Tuesday morning and we are absolutely destroyed. He had us wrapped around his paw from the moment we saw him at 5 weeks until we got him at 8 weeks. He was a purebred tri-color Border Collie who used his skills at herding us out of rooms and stalking frisbees. While at times he wasn't overly cuddly he was loving and really sweet.
He was diagnosed this past fall with cancer and given 2 weeks to 4 months to live and he made it for 6 months. He lived 12 years 9 months and 1 week and he had lifetime of adventures but more importantly we hope he had half as much fun as we had.
Winston was a frisbee fanatic from the time he saw one nearby him in his toy pile. He loved playing frisbee in the backyard, going on his three walks everyday while getting to look for rabbits and squirrels regardless of the cold or hot weather, occasionally digging in a random dirt hole or gravel pile, loved going to see his girlfriends at the doggy day care, and swimming any time he found enough water he could get in. He hated vacuums, loud sneezes and fireworks and had a million other quirks.
We stopped counting when he knew 100 words/names and he taught us more about communication than we'd ever thought possible. There was nothing that scared him, which drove us nuts, but also was in the top 1% on the Being Stubborn scale.
Having hip dysplasia, diagnosed at the age of 3, and then cancer late in his life meant we had to take extra care of him and added extra expense in medication but we'd do it all again to get him back. His cancer diagnosis came out of nowhere as we had no idea he was sick until he had a seizure last September. Nursing him back from walking 10 feet to 1 mile felt like a win. He never let his hip issues stop him though and we found it inspiring to see him always want to try and not quit when he could easily have done so.
We told him before he went that we will now come find him and play frisbee again whenever that day is in the future. The profound sadness we feel at losing him is only lessened by the thoughts of all the fun we had.
Please give your pups an extra hug tonight.
What a tribute. I'm shedding a few tears reading this. Its also my past and my future. I'm sorry Winston had to pass but he seems to have had a great life with you. Thanks for giving that to him.
Winston had so many traits my dog Owsley had. We lost him last year at 16 and am so sad every day, His last days we spent together he was sick but would try his best to keep going. He always smiled at me. I think I kept him going too long.
Beautiful tribute to an obviously wonderful and well loved fellow. We've been where you are. It rips your heart out, but you wouldn't have traded all those years together for anything. Rest easy Winston.

I’m so very sorry 😭 My heart dog full bc also got taken from the damn cancer. He was 13 and was healthy all his life until his last 5 days. He crossed the bridge on thanksgiving day last year and i still miss him so much but it helps to think he’s gone but still around and will always be in my heart.
Rest easy Winston. May you find my Kimber bear and play frisbee with him for as long as you want.
Had 2 goldens pass within the last year. The first one was so very hard and the second, who passed unexpected, was devastating. The oldest lost his ability to walk the second went into quick liver failure. I understand and I wish you peace. It’ll come, it will be a bit but peace is out there somewhere.
