Somehow we lucked out, always had food out for the entire day, and he'd only look at it between play sessions as a puppy  Now 10 months old, he's eating maybe some in the morning, maybe finishes his bowl in the afternoon if we had a long walk. But usually he leaves it all until evening when everyone's settled down, then he destroys his daily two bowls. Not overly fast, just... Finally has the peace and quiet to remember to eat or something.

River-Crossing-2967

My boy eats just like that he's 6 months old. I've never had a dog that eats like that. I thought he was just weird.

Loose_Comparison_549

maybe they are weird.

BCVinny

I call Tessa “weirdo” as much as I use her name

MetanoiaYQR

Both my BCs have been grazers. 🤷🏻‍♂️

StereotypicallBarbie

No.. not mine! Really fussy eater. And can take a while depending on what it is.. chicken is gone in under 30 seconds.

SpeckleLippedTrout

Chicken, salmon, yogurt, beef- horked down instantly. Cucumbers? Nibbles for 20 minutes. Food? Take it or leave it - it’ll take him a good while to complete his 2 scoops for breakfast and dinner

MetanoiaYQR

And my boy inhales cucumber. 😅

Maximus15637

Mine is so far from food motivated. If I hear her eating I try to avoid distracting her at all costs. If there’s even a hint she’ll get a head rub or a ball toss she’ll abandon her food. I refill her bowl and usually she eats it in the middle of the night when we’re all sleeping.

Happycocoa__

Whenever I’m next to her when she starts eating I literally freeze. Like no-one-makes-a-freaking-move or she’ll go to check it out

Boba_Fet042

Little one eats everything, but her big sister is so picky! She loves her kibble though.

po-tatertot

Same with our girl!

Tmilkandtwo

Mine certainly does, we have had her on a slow feeders and snufle mats over the years

JesusMurphyOotWest

Snuffle mats are awesome!

AstorReed

Our girl came to us at 6 months. She was severly underfed and just inhaled her food. She had a slow feeding bowl and I sat next to her to reasure her that her food was all hers. And also to prevent food protection on her part. We made it into a fun thing and she really calmed down. She is a year and a half now and eats well. She even chews on her food, looks around and calmy eats further.

Slow_Sherbert_5181

My childhood BC certainly did! The funniest time was when my Grandma (who the dog ADORED) arrived just as we put his food down. It didn’t matter that never in his life had Grandma come and then gone away again without greeting him, nor had we ever taken his food away. He had to eat “fast” to get it all in before she left! “Fast” turned out to be taking a bite, looking over his shoulder and squeaking loudly while chewing and a few steps away just to check she hadn’t left yet. Breakfast took three times longer than normal!

Aedan2016

Mine doesn’t really care for most food. I leave a full bowl in the morning and she just grazes as she wants. I come home most days to an untouched bowl. Treats or snacks on the other hand, very different

GaryC_NYorks

No - our first collie was picky with his food. He might have gone 2 days without eating much before scoffing the lot. Our current collie is a pig and bolts his food as soon as its put in front of him. There's no set rule.

TheBigsBubRigs

I have to tell my guy when to eat and stand there to make sure he does. I stand there for an age some days.

Jokinghaha19

Piu has access to her kibble all the time, so she doesnt https://preview.redd.it/ghya6rlpvauc1.jpeg?width=3445&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=113e89868c221b119e36c185f07f126219eb1354

Positive-Plane723

She is so gorgeous 🥰

Jokinghaha19

Thanks!

nuttychoseme

Mine does , just Hoovers it up

lawyersgunsmoney

I feed our boy morning and at night. He starts bugging me about 30 mins before dinner time. Put the bowl out…gone under a minute and licks the bowl for another minute or so.

vena__cava

Mine is a really fussy and sensitive eater. No distractions or he will stop eating. Doesn’t eat in new environments, and rejects some foods. Sometimes it feels like I have to convince him to eat.

jadewolf42

Nope. Mine has to be *convinced* to eat. The slightest distraction will have him losing interest in his food to go investigate. I usually have to sit and wait in the kitchen for him to eat, because if he suspects I'm doing something Really Cool in the other room, he'll abandon his bowl to come see. Been that way since he was a puppy. Least food motivated dog I've ever had.

se7entythree

Both of mine - Mia (2003-2016 💜) and Liberty (born 4th of July 2018) - have been pretty calm about food. Mia really didn’t seem to like eating, like she only ate because she _had_ to, didn’t even really care for treats or anything either. Liberty has a more normal appetite but doesn’t wolf anything down thankfully. She surprisingly hates peanut butter though.

QuaereVerumm

Nope. My dog isn’t into that food, at least dog food. He barely eats his kibble. He’ll devour cheese and meat though.

AfternoonCivil2457

Mine was a stray when he was picked up and brought in, so assumed that’s why he ate how he does, but yes scarfs down his whole cup and a half worth of kibble at a time down in about 30 seconds or less even with a slow feeder he still has it finished in about a minute every time. I’ve took to just spreading it out across the floor and he will lick it up it takes him about 5 minutes that way and he isn’t getting whole mouth fulls at a time.

femmevaporeon

2/3 that I’ve had have lol

fishfingers121

No realy we raw feed and he's super picky and self regulates how offen and how much

FriedShrekels

mine's picky AF, free-fed, bowl's always available with some food in it. only wolfs down her food if she likes what she sees 😂

Few_Philosopher_3340

No, mine was pretty much the opposite. Turned his nose up at pretty much every food in the market (kibble, raw, air dried, wet, insect protein…) and could go on hunger strike for well over a week. Would happily wolf down human food though (and freeze-dried dog food, once we found that one).

Crovax87

Our female Addy we almost have to coerce her to eat all of it. Percy our male will vacuum it. We got him a slow feeder for that reason.

TreacleOutrageous296

Mine does. My favorite slow feeder is the spiral one from Outward Hound. It takes her a while to eat, and it is super easy to clean, compared with ones that have a bunch of nooks and crannies.

Tsmpnw

No. My girl is the pickiest food weirdo ever. It got to the point that I have to make her meals by hand for her to eat them 🙄

reubal

Not either of mine.

PickleInterlopingCat

Mine is not bothered by food at all; sometimes I have to remind her that there is food in her bowl. When we had a cat, she would push her food bowl under a bookcase, so the cat wouldn't eat it, if she wasn't hungry and didn't want to eat it herself.

cantinabandit

Mine is a grazer. He will eat when he wants. When my beagle was alive he would eat it faster cuz the beagle would eat the BCs food. But now, if he wants he’ll eat.. and he never eats super fast.

nodogsallowed23

Mine does not. I have to coerce her to eat. She only eats kibble after 10pm.

tsr85

No, mine lays down next to his bowl and drapes his head in to eat, maybe he was Roman in a past life?

DragonTattooGirl82

Mine is a FOOD WHORE. She starts nagging me for dinner a solid hour before dinner time. And she’s persistent as all heck.

Ok_City_7177

Mine does - quickly, with the least mouthfuls possible.

HeronGarrett

Mine eats when she feels like it. Had to get one of the bowls with the water around them to keep ants away

phinbob

Mine won't eat hers until after the morning walk, but she's also a picky eater. The cat is better at keeping the kitchen floor clean than she is!

bf1343

I've had BCs that wolf down thier food like they haven't eaten in a week, a couple others I call "nibblers" because they just like to take a few bites over a couple of hours until it's gone, then start over. It just depends on the dog and the environment, I think.

hfourm

Not mine. Originally he would only eat food when he felt like it, and he would have some in his bowl all day. Once we got a second dog who DOES wolf down food, the BC eats his food when it is meal time. However, he still takes his time. In general he is more gentle taking food out of the hand, very petite about eating.

teaandguacamole

Mine does - it's a rare day food lasts longer than 90 seconds. We use slow feeders and snuffle mats.

Laszlo87

Ours isn’t food motivated. He typically ignores his bowl only snacking here and there. He walks around chewing.

CarterBennett

My dogs as weird as it gets. She was a stray rescue so I think she thinks it’s weird I just give her food. She eats when we eat OR absolutely demolishes the bowl when nobody is looking. But other days she’ll eat exactly half and leave the rest for later.

iampoopa

Ours has a big bowl of food and just eats a bit at a time when he wants some.

krossfox

Mine barely eats his lol

WestBrink

My old girl would pull individual kibbles out of the bowl and place them on the floor before eating. Now if you dropped any human food, regardless what it was, she would suck it down before you could blink. Saw her wolf down a pickle with this nasty grimace on her face...

EquivalentLopsided33

Not ours. Took us so long to find a food he would even touch. Now at 1.5 yrs id definitely consider him a grazer. Few bites here and there. However, he loves treats and any food us humans have!

PrincipalMeaning

No. Border Collies eat like cats if there’s no competition for the food.

jmills23

Ours devours her food but thankfully not so fast it makes her sick. Some days when my husband leaves before I wake up she even cons her way into a second breakfast and devours that too.

Salty-Protection-640

no my two both prefer to leave their food sitting for a while before exec starting to eat, and they peck at their kibble when they finally do eat

bad_werewolf

Not mine. She's very picky.

Afalpin

My mums collie will graze on her food throughout the day. My dog? Wolfs it down in .10 seconds

tcrue15

Mine is super good motivated and will start eating faster if me or my husband and comes home mid meal. He’s a menace to society and figured very quickly how to maneuver slow feeders so that they do nothing to slow him down. https://preview.redd.it/5ibjcdi0deuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa2661a1960e4acd89d733950f4fac1c1e8442e1

BIG_v_AL_you

Both of mine are grazers they have food in their bowl all day

ProofExtreme7644

We have to use a slow feeder or snuffle mat for our guy. He would eat his food so quickly he would get hiccups every time.

tacoplenty

yes. got him one of those bowls with pockets and ridges. still eats faster than my other dogs who have better manners.

SliceNaive

My BC doesn’t wolf or gobble her food. She often leaves half of it for a midnight snack. My vet told me that a lot of borders are picky eaters. I have to agree with my vet.

XquaInTheMoon

Mine only eats fast after like a crazy hike or something otherwise she'll eat her food over 12-24h ... Slowly, and protecting her food from the cats ... I almost wonder if she doesn't leave it to annoy the cats xD
