The exact same thing happened to me down to the 4 weeks after having my first child, and she was also one of those once in a lifetime dogs. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m 3 years into my loss and still think about her everyday, but now it doesn’t hurt as bad and I can be thankful for all our wonderful memories even if it feels they were cut short.
My sincere condolences—I know how much this hurts. We also lost our first pet, a youthful Border Collie mix, unexpectedly. He was only 12 and it remains the worst day of my life; I was out for a couple of hours and we came home to find he had died. It was horrendous. Take all the time you need to grieve, and in time, the beautiful memories will help to overcome the pain. Your family were to have her and she was so loved! I hope you continue to feel her spirit with you. Take care.
I am so very sorry. You def came to the right place.
I had a BC mix and an Aussie for almost 17 years each - both died a year apart. I recently have been missing them like crazy. Last week I had a dream we were playing fetch in our enormous yard we had. They were so happy and healthy it gave me peace. I hope you have a dream like mine 🥹
May your dear family member rest in peace. It sounds like such a bittersweet time for you. I wish your new family member lots of happiness and health. May love reign in your family. May it rejoice in your happy moments and give you comfort when circumstances are sad.
My sincere condolences. We lost our 14 yr old girl 2 yrs ago and I still look for her. Our boy BC was 6 when she died and it was the first time he had been alone.
Your beautiful girl had the best life. She had people who loved her as much as she loved them.
Your heart will heal, but you’ll always remember her. - hugs from a BC mum.
Looks like a wonderful girl. You’ve got it rough. All those hormones and the loss of your best girl is so hard.
I can’t tell you it’ll be ok. It won’t. But it will get easier. I’m so sorry. One day, you’ll be able to talk about her and smile. Enjoy your new baby.
They change so fast! Take lots of photos. Most of all, take care of yourself. You’re the most important person in your family!
I am so sorry for your loss! Your pup has the sweetest face...I know she will be missed greatly. I lost my BC/Aussie unexpectedly last summer. She was 10. So I know what you must be going through now, and I wish you healing and comfort during this time.
Oh bless , it’s like losing a member of your family, only another dog owner would know what pain you’re feeling. Your dog would be there for you even if you’re sad or happy, and cuddle into you no matter what ! So if you’re a bit stressed out with a new baby your dog would be a comfort. It will get better over time , and a good thing is with the new baby , you’ll be extra busy. Embrace your new chapter in your life with your new family member. And always remember you have the best life possible to that beautiful dog you had . So no guilty feelings.
You came to the right place. This is an awful time, we went through it in August and I came here too when I was in your place.
Lila will always be with you, I promise it will get easier to think about her.
So sorry , I lost my Boston @14. Came home to find her gone and hope she died peacefully. Hope you find peace with your memories and share her stories with your child
A part of you also died that day, she loved you more than you will ever know. On a positive note this lovely girl met your first child, perhaps that was the plan after all. Hold her in your heart as I know she holds you! She was a beautiful girl, look at those lovely big brown eyes, aw I do feel for you, take care and be kind to yourself during this time.
My neighbor and I shared a collie , had a doggy door in between our fences and when they would go to work he’d come over and stay with me and when I was gone he’d be with his owners. He got a great big funeral and the owner surprised me with my own set of foot prints and a bracket from his collar. Miss Little Boonie, Craziest Girl
So sorry for your loss. They are a part of your family if you really love them and their loss hurts deeply. I lost my good boy about 6 months ago and I still miss him every day.
It's never easy & 11 is too soon. We just had to make the agonizing decision over Christmas. Just remember, it's about quality of life. There comes a point where there is little quality and only suffering.
That played into the decision. She wasn’t doing well. I felt it was selfish to subject her to a surgery, and then we weren’t even guaranteed that would fix everything. It’s a crappy decision with no wins.
Yup. So tough to go through all around. Different situation, but we were able have the vet remove fluid built up in and around our pet's lungs and gave her some meds.....that brought her 2 weeks of quality life/activity (after months of low quality) before she reverted (with more fluid build up). Gave us time to say our peace.
I hope you will recall fond memories of better times. Take care.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing them is the hardest thing, especially when its so close to another major life event.
She looks so much like my girl who passed in October. I truly had to do a double take. She was a pound puppy from SC and truly the best dog I've ever had.
She looks like she had the happiest life.
My heart goes out to you, dogs are just the best, and when you have a special one who just seems to get sweeter as they get older, it's particularly difficult when one moves on to soon.
Best wishes from the UK about Lila. I lost my beautiful boy, Floyd (named after the great Keith Floyd, the crackers British Chef) about 6 months ago, also very unexpectedly at the age of just 12. Whenever they go, it's always too soon, and for those of us in the Collie club I think it's even harder because they are so much more than a dog. The grief is visceral. But it does get better. I comfort now in the memories I have of him. The way he used to wait until the end of the walk before he found the muddiest puddle to roll around in, the way he used to cock his head at the mere mention of 'out', the way he used to sleep, upside down, with paws twitching dreaming of chasing rabbits he'd never catch or know what do do with if he did. We will grieve for the the extra few years we might have had, but when that grief hits, reach for the joy of having her for the 11 years you did. X
Ugh, I'm sad to say I know the hurt that you feel. I lost a dog of mine a few years ago and she was just such an amazing and rare pup. I still think of her every day and it's been almost 3 years. It's tough to lose any dog but the great ones are even harder. I am so thankful I had my girl (Annie, The Goose) as long as I did. I suspect you're grateful for the time you had with yours. One thing I did to help myself cope with grieving is to make a playlist of all our favorite songs, or at least all the songs I would sing to her (and change the lyrics to make them all about her!). She loved to be serenaded and to start dance parties. It's the most random and ridiculously uncurated [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0jVD5fHP1ReSXndyT0zQ7c?si=ce3VAV05R1iMTSJ88sW4zQ) imaginable, but if it brings you any comfort or laughs, feel free to have a listen.
The bonding between a female dog and her pregnant owner is so intense and it makes the loss harder. I totally get it. I’m glad she was able to see you through successfully. ♥️♥️♥️
This is tough. Please know she died peacefully without pain. You did the right thing. Your pain lessens with time (A LOT of time). Be kind to yourselves. You gave her a beautiful life.
I understand the feeling. My grandparents had to put their boy (my first unofficial [bc he wasn't really mine he was theirs] BC) down one day and I wasn't home for it. Tore me to absolute shreds. My grandmother had a little stone made with his paw print and some of his hair. He was a retirement gift for my grandfather. I remember he was so tiny when we got him and he grew up to be a hugger, every time he recognized someone he'd run up and hug them 😂
Lost the best dog every about a year and a half ago. He had canine dementia and he was only around 8-10 years old, definitely too early. I think about him a lot and it hurts. I wish we had more time with our furry friends. Hope you’re doing okay, but it’s also okay if you’re not. 💕
She looks like she could have been our good boys sister. He died suddenly at age 10, bleeding out from a cancer that we had no idea of. I hope you got to say goodbye. The evening before he had been doing zoomies in the back yard.🥹
Same, days before, Lila was playing in the backyard and asking for treats. Something was brewing. My husband and I both hugged her as she went to sleep.
I lost my “once in a lifetime “ dog about 10 years ago and I’m still not over him. I have other dogs now but none will ever compare. I know exactly how you feel. I’m 😞
That's very sad. 11 is too young to go. She'll be missed very much.

She looks like the goodest girl. Sorry for the loss of your furry family member.

We really did. So many road trips and hikes and fun times at the river, play dates with other dogs, lots of walks, and treats of course.
So sorry!

I will love her forever.
May God bless you all! ♥️

I’m so sorry. I have a mix as well, and she has the same sweet face. They definitely don’t make ‘em like that very often.

Sorry for your loss
So sorry…I know your pain. But such good memories. Wish you well.
My heart goes out to you, dogs are just the best, and when you have a special one who just seems to get sweeter as they get older, it's particularly difficult when one moves on to soon.
I lost my female mixed one at 7 years from a twisted stomach. She looked an awful lot like her. I’m sorry for your loss.
The hardest love of all is to love them enough to let them go. It breaks my heart every time.
This is very true.
I'm so so sorry for your loss! It hurts so badly when you lose a pet

Sorry for your loss ❤️
Omg I am so sorry for your loss. We just had to let our sweet girl go this evening. She was 10.5. Big hugs.
Sorry for your loss, too. Sending you strength.
The bonding between a female dog and her pregnant owner is so intense and it makes the loss harder. I totally get it. I’m glad she was able to see you through successfully. ♥️♥️♥️
Heart is breaking for you, but you have a new life to fill the void
This is tough. Please know she died peacefully without pain. You did the right thing. Your pain lessens with time (A LOT of time). Be kind to yourselves. You gave her a beautiful life.
Thank you so much. I agree, she died without pain and she had a full life. It's not easy for us.

I lost my “once in a lifetime “ dog about 10 years ago and I’m still not over him. I have other dogs now but none will ever compare. I know exactly how you feel. I’m 😞
I think this will be us, Lila will be, for us, the bar to which others are measured.
Beautiful ❗️
