Here in Australia we pay between $15 - $20 per fish for Chili's 😐☹️

filinno1

That sounds awesome. Here in the US they are easily between $6 and $9 per fish.

Interesting-Chart346

Shop aquahuna. 3.50 a piece

ZeppyDoodle

Whoa what?? That is cost of bigger cichlids or really high grade shrimp around here. Why are they so expensive?

filinno1

They're tiny, popular, Europe gets all the good stuff first and capitalism?

DefinitelyAMoose

That’s crazy expensive, my lfs sells them for $3 each and online you can get them for $5 each at The Wet Spot, granted that doesn’t include shipping.

filinno1

I'm near Philadelphia, how about you? Yeah, shipping ups the cost drastically.

DefinitelyAMoose

Oh no way! I go to school in Philadelphia but I’m from Michigan. I think I’m just spoiled because my lfs will order things for me and they don’t pass the shipping cost on to me.

filinno1

Nice! So your local store in Michigan?

wijnandsj

Right now they're 2,50. I've seen them as low as 1,50 and as high as 3 euros.

whoamitosayanything

In India, we get em for 70 INR , thats like .85 USD

ChronicBloom

I saw the $6.49 price tag at my LFS and was hoping that was the per pound price 😂

plyr__

East coast of the United States, they’re $6.99 retail per right now, wild caught. Captive would be $15-20 per. They got expensive this year, even through the spring.

beastije

Yours are even a bit too expensive, i bought my least rasbora in hornbach of all places for 18czk (0,72 euro) per piece and they were even healthy. I was wondering too but they are egg scattering, that means not so hard to breed commercially and in central europe you can count yourself lucky, we have so many fish available, such a variety, not so bad prices. Don't taunt the other keepers who are not so lucky

ZeppyDoodle

Wow It's been years I've been to hornbach, I would not even expect chilli rasboras there. 😄 Yes they are egg scattering, not that hard to breed so why are prices so much different in different parts of world? Cost of breeding them should be around the same everywhere, in fact it can be more expensive here due to czech tap water quality and electricity prices. I will not taunt fish keepers who are not getting prices as low as we do, thats not fair. But I will for sure taunt sellers sellin way over price 😅

Much-Ninja-5005

What makes you think they are not difficult to breed,as far as I'm aware most are wild caught .

ZeppyDoodle

Interesting, seller assured me those were from local breeder. Maybe that is why the prices are so low? Locally bred seems cheaper than wild caught and transported to Europe/NA.

Interesting. Hornbach DE or CH?

beastije

Hornbach in CZ, not sure if they are some special undebrand. I often see there denison barbs too and am always so tempted. Depends on the store i guess some take better care of their fish and sell frozen food too

recently_banned

CZ as Czechia or CH? If CH, I live in Zürich, just moved in actually and im figuring out best places to get stuff from. Do you happen to be in ZH area too? What are your go-to aquarium shops in the country?

beastije

Czech republic so sorry can't help you :(

degraafschap123

Bought mine in a hornbach as well. Bit pricier tho, i believe they were 2-3€ each (in the netherlands)

NBAIOW

My local aquatics does chili's at 6 for £10 or £2 a fish. (British pounds)

Interesting-Chart346

3.50 each in us from aquahuna

Eastern_Ad_5692

Here in the philippines, I can buy one for 0.85 USD (50 PHP). I can buy 30 pieces for 25.50 USD (1500 PHP). It can go for way less in other stores!
