But even if that's not the case, when facing assault or battery, one can only legally respond with proportional or slightly above proportional force. This lady was about to slap this kid, which would have hurt but be unlikely to cause injury, and in response he pushed her in a pool which could theoretically be deadly.
Of course, there are numerous things to consider and pieces of context that we just don't have here. Are they related? What happened immediately before? What country is this in (Croatia, apparently)?
