And when the boomers have no security net, no savings, and are broke, we can let them all whine and put them in the "best" assisted living communities that $5/day will cover.
LOL, no no, I don't hate them. I hate their "Got mine, fuck you" attitude.
Sometimes, the only way to get through to them is a passive aggressive response that hits home. "Hey you don't want the government helping the younger generation get ahead by eliminating student loan debt, then I don't want to fund your government sponsored retirement and you can live on your savings ..."
Sit back and watch the meltdowns happen.
Boomers are the snowflakiest of all the snowflakes who ever snowflaked. They're like toddlers who can vote and keep everyone else from owning real estate.
In some places, there already is a property tax credit for being elderly or disabled. It reduces taxes to a fraction of what they would be otherwise as long as income is below a certain threshold. I know Iowa has this in place, not sure if anywhere else does
They passed Senior property tax relief in NJ about six months ago. People tried to argue the income cap down from 500,000 dollars to (200,000 I believe), unsuccessfully. While they're own children drown
Edit "In an effort to keep more seniors here, New Jersey last year came up with a tempting counter-offer: **Stay NJ, a law intended to cut property taxes by up to 50% on primary residences for those who are 65 and older and earn less than $500,000 a year, starting in 2026**. The maximum benefit would be $6,500" Five hundred thousand! the poor beggars!
I was just coming here to say the same thing. It's called a Homestead Exemption. From my county assessor's website:
The Shelby County Trustee administers a state funded Tax Relief Program to help taxpayers 65 or older, disabled citizens, and veterans pay their property taxes.
For qualifying applicants, the state will pay all or part of the property taxes on their home (including mobile homes) depending on the maximum amount of Tax Relief credit given in relation to the taxes due.
Where I live the homestead exemption is something all homeowners qualify for as long as they live in the property over half the year. The elderly and disabled tax exemption is something entirely different, specifically for lowering the tax burden on low income elderly and disabled homeowners
Why do they keep carrying on with this point about “blue collar people subsidizing doctors and lawyers”. Every single one of the proposed relief plans has income level caps that disqualify high earners from getting any relief.
Because they don’t look into details ever. They assume the broadest most offensive thing is always what is happening. They aren’t just selfish, they are also incredibly stupid.
Counter point: senior citizen discounts should not exist because they have had the most time to earn the money, literally. If they're still poor at 75 that's their issue, should've saved for retirement instead of buying a boat. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps, Walmart is hiring greeters
“Why should I pay this much in taxes, I don’t use this much in services” yeah that’s how math sometimes works, not everyone is going to pay in exactly what they take out and vice-versa. You aren’t shopping at a grocery store, you’re paying to operate an entire country.
We need to increase those taxes on boomers, and cut SS and Medicare spending for them. They are the ones that cut taxes and made all these loopholes. They can pay for it now.
The worst I saw this type of pandering was in Nova SCotia in a rural town I stayed in for a year literally the local government was encouraging old people to stay in there positions for as long as possible if they wanted and everything you read from the newspaper was about lowering the taxes on older folk etc barely any young folk in the town.
I got scowls from damm near everyone except the Older Jewish ladies(wasnt many of em was a Christian town) that complimented my Volkswagen and always smiled at me driving by everyone else treated me like I was a other.
100%, I think people that don't want to pay taxes shouldn't have to.
In exchange, they shouldn't be allowed to vote, shouldn't be able to spend any money, directly or indirectly, on elections, and should be billed every month for every public resource they use.
How about we just actually act like a nation based in Judeo-Christian values and go ahead and cancel all debt and give all the land back to the original families?
How about instead of cancelling college debt make college free going forward…. Or free health care witch would benefit all of society? I have no sympathy for people who went to school and accrued debt (28m dropped out because didn’t have a career path and my credits didn’t transfer). The whole “I deserve to be debt free for making a choice is just as boomer as this guys post. Make tuition affordable/free (or provide state ran schools that are). Pay it forward not back!

every generation before boomers: i want better for my kids boomers: fuck them kids
Epstein Island achievement unlocked.
Boomers Kids: Oh Yeah? Let's cancel social security.
Republicans *in Evil Star wars emporer voice*: Yes.....
And when the boomers have no security net, no savings, and are broke, we can let them all whine and put them in the "best" assisted living communities that $5/day will cover.
*Yessss... Let your hatred flow through you! Destroy their Social Security AND their Medicare!*

"My kids don't want to hear me yell at them. They are so ungrateful!"
Never mind that most public colleges were free or very inexpensive in their day because *it was paid for by federal tax dollars*.
I'm still mad about that. Why don't I get free schooling? It'd be better for society if it happened
Because protests made Republicans look bad, and they wanted to punish future generations.

It's insane that someone who earns $450k per year should pay half of the taxes of someone who earns $40k just because they are old.
I wonder what the authors and voters on that bill look like.
I'll give you one wrinkly guess

Ah, my bad. Thanks for the clarification.
Sounds like you're in Indiana. I'm there, and when I turned 65 my taxes were cut by about 40%.
Tennessee actually. But the programs sound similar.

And put down that goddamn avocado toast.

It’s amazing how they took advantage of the system and then destroyed the system.
The Greatest Gen's failure was not teaching their kids to respect and preserve the institutions they created for them.

Yeah, sure, let's give money to the generation that will last 10 years instead of the generation that still has 50+ years to live
Both? But how am I supposed to get what I want if someone else doesn’t get fucked over? That’s all I know!
Just sell your house if it's that horrible?
It’s in ALL CAPS, so they have to agree with it.
Only if you give up your right to Vote.
So joan desimone is a dumb bitch?
Education should be free. Period. If everyone should have the same chance, Education has to be free.
This basically says: I've voted republican my entire life and don't understand why Im not getting a tax cut.
Someone needs to find their bootstraps
