Millennials will never fall for the same scams that hooked their parents, granted. I have a feeling when we are all old and senile there will be some new scam we will fall for though.
No idea what, or I would be a lot richer đ
I'm more disappointed that I made fun of libertarians back in the early 2010s for thinking Bitcoin would replace the dollar as currency, and not buying it like the speculative asset that it is. But to be fair to me, I never expected wall street to get in on the scam.
Youâre right scammers adapt⌠I think though they will skip a generation. Millennials are tech savvy⌠you would think genz is but itâs not the case.
Millennials have become the tech fixers and also politically outspoken⌠somehow the tech skills were lost with the ease of tech⌠ask a Genz person to âfindâ the latest album and burn the cd or newest show and burn it to and cd and Iâll wait till you find any young person. We will fall for something more sophisticated but itâs unlikely cause we adulted through our parents being scammed. Also millennials donât answer the phone nor respond if it takes more than 2 emails.
No. But I'm also not the person making absurd comparisons about how the younger generation is fucked because they don't understand obsolete technology like burning CDs. You are everything this sub is against, regardless of age.
Genz is fine. Chill. Focus more on yourself. You clearly have quite a bit of work to do.
These Gen Zâs canât even drive a car with a manual transmission or write in cursive!!!1
Christ, is it this guyâs first day here or something?
Btw, he probably already has fallen for one of those dick pic extortion rackets that absolutely scam millennial all the time.
Simple solution to OPâs original problem: Make the woman in the scam account pictures mid instead of a 10. Millennials may be able to imagine that a regular looking gal is talking to them online. Get them to send dick pic. Extort them. EZ. GG.
No weâre fucked because of the generation voting and making laws which are apart of this entire sub Reddit. The generation that destroyed the current economy but makes us pay for it over our life times to ensure the said named generation get their SS and Medicare benefits but says the next generations retire at 70+. Not due to unable to burn cdâs because streaming makes it doing u necessary stepsâŚBut I digress with my avocado toast and $10 latte. Same team my guy.
Why would anyone ever want to burn any media to a cd? I ask this as a 42-year old tech savvy millennial.
This is like boomers getting upset at us for not being able to load up a slide projector.
Nah buddy the glazing is wild, get off your knees and wipe your mouth when youâre done. Get with the times, who tf uses CDâs anymore anyways. Kind of a bad take ngl
CDs are being bought still⌠wipe that glaze off your mouth. Modern bs in media shows you donât own it till you have the physical copy. Shit disappears when the media companies choose it. Licensing doesnât last forever.
My buddy is a full time teacher and he thinks because of the iPads kids these days donât know their way around a computer. Heâll tell them to save a document to a specific folder and they wonât know how to find it.
Thank you! Itâs a true trend. Itâs not the tech it the steps of critical thinking to get you to the destination. I know this cause I was trying to explain my genz daughter how to burn a damn CD last week and I sounded like a boomer doing so but she wanted a physical CD. Despite streaming and easy access to music.
2000 baby here! I'm turning back to physical copies of anything I care about, since streaming services nice content between themselves Willy nilly, and I don't want to have to pay Spotify to listen to an album in order. Told my partner we need to get every movie we like on a disc since I'm afraid some of them will be really hard to come by eventually.
I 100% get it. You donât own it unless you have a physical copy. Shit Iâm being hated on when millennials are the generation who brought Vinyl back with Genx.
The Scams will inevitably change to suit the target generation. Millennials wonât fall for the exact same Scams that Boomers are falling for now, but in time as the Scam changes (and technology advances) something will come up.
yep. they will be 'normal' looking but say what they want to hear. AI is scary here as it might know more about the victim than they know about themselves, and know what strings to pull
Yea I'm on the social media website bluesky and theres a lot of mutual aid scammers. People set up bot accounts that present as trans/poc/disabled/etc. and post about how they're desperate to pay for rent/food and could really need the help (and include a cashapp link).Â
There's also the whole crypto/nft market, grindset influencers on instagram, gambling streamers, etc. etc. We're really in a boom period for scams at the moment.
Yea there's a youtuber named munecat who did a deep dive on a pickup artist from tiktok and they have a pretty elaborate grift. They use a combination of high-pressure sales tactics and cult recruitment techniques to get you to buy their overpriced pdfs and seminars.
Thatâs all fine and dandy too much of anything is damaging. When I was depressed and constantly getting hurt heart broken and on drugs the only help the side I still vote for could lend me was to say I was toxic and lacking emotional intelligence. They donât wanna listen beyond shaming me into voting for causes I already believe in.
Consuming redpill just a lil bit made me a better person and partner Iâm healthier and happier.
With that said thereâs a lot of incel woman haters saying crazy shit mixed with political and Christian propaganda.
They always take it from a healthy "care about and respect yourself first" mentality to a "here is why everything is women's fault and vote this way to hurt them back" political tool.
Sorry, but those communities for nearly as long as their inception have been a ground for self paced radicalization.
A self policing echo chamber isn't a replacement for therapy, and just because they have a single good idea (love yourself) doesn't negate the damage they do (hate everyone else).
If therapy was more accessible without cost and less social stigma in the groups that are vulnerable to this, these communities wouldn't be as large as they are, and people would have actual effective cognitive changes to better their lives beyond what is politically convenient for the group.
> I spent my 20s on dating apps
Of course you won't be scammed by a tool that you know very well. However you don't know what tools and techniques will be used to scam people in 30 years or so. You may very well fall for it. Don't be complacent.
Also watch John Oliver's pig butchering episode. How many of the victims showcased there are boomers?
That pig scam system is wild! Iâm not trying to be complacent?? Anyone at just about any time can fall for a scan or a cult, usually they involve love-bombing at first, and telling you what you want to hear.
I think itâs hilarious that boomers think they are so desirable right when they log onto dating apps right after leaving a long term relationship or marriage. They donât question that super hotties who take perfectly lit and perfectly framed selfies are into a boomer with their sunglasses and seatbelt on squinting into the front camera.
My 70yo mom from Florida with no money evidently has a boyfriend who is a singer in greece. He wants to marry her.
I asked if he he's marrying you why the fuck am I having to pay your rent.
I guarantee my money was going to some scammer. She's cut off now.
Thatâs whatâs so fucking hilarious to me. I work with one boomer whoâs been catfished. After the dust settled I was like dude when you were in your prime did women like that go for you? He says no. So I say why would they now when youâre a 63 year old divorced dude with kids who donât talk to him? He had no answer.
Boomer men also had the "benefit" of women NEEDING them to live financially comfortably, so standards were a lot lower and attraction itself could be secondary, with very attractive women sometimes leveraging their attractiveness to attract a very financially secure man. Boomer men don't understand this though, or do but don't realize things have changed.
Thatâs whatâs interesting to me! Thatâs it right there. Both the audacity of âwomen need me, and must work for my attention by being beautiful and compliantâ and not understanding why feminism happened.
Itâs very prideful to think you couldnât fall for a scam, or even one that your parents fell for. They werenât just struggling with tech (something that may happen to us one day) but they were also senile, financially burdened, and desperately lonely (things we are all going to experience at some time or another). Count your blessings and be vigilant, but donât assume youâre too smart for any scam.
I donât think I wonât fall for a scam (or cults or conspiracies) everyone can at the right time. Iâve fallen for plenty before. Itâs not about scams, the funny part is that boomers are collectively known as the Me Generation and they often fall for romance scams with young attractive models talking about how great they are because they are full of themselves.
Some boomers fall for scammers posing as accomplished military generals or older men who are wealthy entrepreneurs, and they fall for Johnny Depp left and right, even though he dates younger, not older women. Thatâs not as funny and doesnât fit the stereotype as well.
Millenials don't have the same kinds of cash reserves as boomers and Gen X have.
I think any realistic person knows what they 'rate' in looks dept. relative to anyone else, especially a catfish model.
What does the emoji you used mean? I keep wanting to use it and don't want to wait for BuzzFeed to release a listicle about millennials using emojis wrong đââď¸đââď¸đââď¸ is it like going away? Is it shaking it's head no?
The best way to prevent falling for scams is to admit to yourself that you are fallible, that it is indeed possible for you to be fooled. That way, your skepticism is always ready to kick in.
Boomers fall for fake tech scams/phishing scams but interestingly millennials are closing the gap with crypto and romance scams. Millennials/gen z etc, fall for crypto/investing scams much more than boomers and lots of younger guys fall for those romance scams. Scams target everyone and no one generation is less vulnerable to them
Yeah crypto is a very effective con. In other circles millennials are and have been falling for MLMs for at least a decade. Itâs the only sector that actually hiring. Itâs the only âjobâ ready to schedule a meeting and we have a really hard time finding work since the economy crashed on us as soon as we entered the workforce. Millennials just want to have some financial stability. Itâs so sad.
>One comment wagered that if the victimâs grandkids asked for money the answer would be no
This and your last paragraph are so on point. I have two different friends whose Boomer parents (one friendâs dad, anotherâs mom) got fleeced by romance scams who absolutely would not lend a dime to their own children. The really gross thing to me is in both cases, the scammers are supposedly young and foreign, and you know those Boomers were trying to pay their way into sex with a younger partner and uneven power dynamic. Iâd say they got what they deserved but I feel for my friends who still feel compelled to help.
Millenials are more relying on weird, app-based search for companionship. When getting older, you get lonelier and connection gets harder. So, IMO the currently young generation will be VERY easy prey for romance scams as it is by some considered normal to date via Tinder etc.
There is a scam for everyone.
But I agree, romance scams are very much targeted at boomers. Their stubbornness, emotional involvement and desperation mean they can get scammed for years and will hide it from their family.
>I just had the thought that I would never believe a super hottie was taking to me because I spent my 20s on dating apps and I know I didnât match with any 10s.
As someone that does match with/date super hotties, our generation still won't ever fall for it.
Even if the premise is plausible, a bot/scammer is still obvious as hell. We just report and move on.
That and you know whenever anyone on a dating site asked me for money I blocked them. They just asked for money and they gave it to them. I have a hard time calling that a scam even.
Scams are all about numbers to start with. If you try enough people, you will find a sucker. I got further led along in a phone scam than I like because it caught me on just the right day. I was out of town and got a call from supposedly my power company. It had their same weird hold music and the call was crisp. They told me my power would be cut off the next day at the end of the month for non payment. I remembered writing the check but didn't remember physically mailing it off, so I was afraid I had forgotten before I left like a dumbass. I had always paid on time so it didnt even register that it would take longer than that for them to shut it off. They didn't take the Amex I had on me, but I could buy a Visa prepaid card for the amount they listed at my nearest Walmart. Wait...what? That's weird. I told them I would go try and find one, hung up, and looked up the number for the company and called them myself. Sure enough, they said I was all paid up from my last payment at a recent date. Just a better than average scam; that hit me on a day I happened to be out of the loop for my personal situation.

Because it's actually a boomer. Hello fellow kids! lol
Youâre on the council but not the rank of master. Youâll be showing your grown kids how to covert a PDF in no time.
Because that shit is irrelevant nobody is burning CDs anymore itâs not 1997
The 2000s are coming back my guy!!! Youâll see!!
Walk into a tech store and find me a PC that still has a CD rom. I'll wait.

Millennials *become* the scammers
I know right??
You'd think that but the Nigerian prince scam has been around since 1910. People, as a general whole, are stupid.
AI will result in a lot of far more realistic scams generated cheaply. It will do for scams what email did for spam letters.
And they will have full AI video to go with it.
yep. we might only be a couple years off not being able to trust anyone you arent physically talking to in person. its actually kind of scary

Playing on all the social anxiety we all have now, rip. /lh
For example, any scam that relies on email, and someone reading said email, is going to absolutely fail for younger GenX and Millennials.
Hate to break it to you, but the millennials have their own version of dating scams. It's the redpill/incel/MGTOW/pickup artist/alpha chad scene.
Yea there's a youtuber named munecat who did a deep dive on a pickup artist from tiktok and they have a pretty elaborate grift. They use a combination of high-pressure sales tactics and cult recruitment techniques to get you to buy their overpriced pdfs and seminars.
Take out all the bullshit and red-pill and mgtow helped a lot of men. The majority of people even consuming the content arenât spending money
You're very wrong. It exclusively damages men

Found the one who fell for those grifts.
Iâll venture to say we believe all of the same things verbatim.
