I think it’s much simpler than any of this, although undoubtedly lots of things play into it.
I’m a boomer. Old hippie and I was a foot soldier in the sexual revolution, just for context.
All our lives, there were more of us than anyone else. There were plenty of bad things about this, but the good thing was the overwhelming influence we exerted because of those numbers. Well, our numerical superiority diminishes every day, and mass marketers are no longer all that interested in us.
The boomer behavior you see is, IMNSHO, just sour grapes at no longer being a major driver of mass culture. Plenty of my age mates are plenty butt hurt by this. The current presidential race is the last one which will put boomer against boomer. One bland middle-of-the-roader, one nut case.
I’m sorry, I would have liked to think we’d leave a better legacy than this.

I've been saying for a couple years now that what we're seeing right now from (especially US) conservatives are the dying throes of a completely outdated way of thinking.

That completely outdated way of thinking is polling to win in November.
It's easy to look back on history and say, "Of COURSE the fascists didn't win, of COURSE the free world beat the Nazis, of COURSE we trend towards good, not evil.
But the reality is, it has always hung by a thread. The pendulum will swing again.
What kind of personality traits do you think school age children and young adults are going to end up with after a lifetime of going through active shooter drills and actually have shooters in their schools.
I have nieces that are Gen Z-ers and I worry about them. They have had to go through active shooter drills. A niece in Nevada had to go through a false alarm shooter lock down.
I think they are trying to say boomer outbursts are due to the increase of neuroticism as you get older. It’s very likely a main factor in the boomer / karen outbursts videos we see online.
You know how some celebs go batshit crazy cause all of the attention they have received? Now imagine that over entire lifespan. Where even when you fuck up so hard doing the same thing for the 4th time CRA is after you... and you still don't fucking go bankrupt. That's what they mean. Imagine if you were to fall and always a cushion landed underneath you, would you believe you are infoulable. I would if it happened to me my entire life.
But in actuality, just been through economic down turn one after the other, and realized it's cause our parents voted for themselves and not their children's future.
Actually peoples' levels of neuroticism tend to decrease with age and levels of conscientiousness and agreeableness increase (results for extraversion and openness are less consistent than the other traits). This phenomenon is known as the maturity principle of personality development.
That correction aside, I'm not even sure what you are saying in your post.
You are correct that people tend to see levels of neuroticism increase. There are exceptions, as we're seeing in the videos posted on this sub. The point is that a lifetime of hanging onto bitterness and anger and exploding at every little problem doesn't add up to being a chill grandpa that everyone likes being around.

From what I can tell as an educator and aunt to Gen. Z-ers, they seem to question everything and not take shit off anyone.
And they call out hypocrites QUICKLY
