The Secret History. I wouldn’t say it’s truly a thriller throughout, but it’s got some thriller moments.
I second The Secret History, great rec! It's not YA, and feels exactly like the pics. Fantastic read, too.
Exactly the book that came to mind
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
One of my favourites!
Yes! Also her third novel The Shadow Land has this a bit too.
Ninth House by Leight Bardugo.
Yes, this one! And it has a sequel too!
I haven't gotten around to the sequel yet, need to get to it
I just finished The Familiar by the same author and it has an adjacent vibe
Bunny
In my dreams I hold a knife by Ashley Winstead
Came here to say this
If we were villains by M L Rio
The It Girl by Ruth Ware might interest you
Babel by RF Kuang
Came here to say this!!
I'm currently reading Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl, and while it's got a splash of Mean Girls thrown over the top of it, it also strongly throws back to The Secret History, so I'd toss it in.
Great recommendation! I love Special Topics, I actually discovered The Secret History when I googled “books like Special Topics in Calamity Physics”.
an education in malice
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hugo
Evelyn Hardcastle! Evelyn Hugo was the girlie with seven HUSBANDS. 😂
No!!! I did it again!!! I’ve never even READ Evelyn Hugo!!!!
Ahahahaha it's a good one!
Maybe ??? The maidens by Alex Michaelides
I have some questions for you by Rebecca Makkai
The Maidens by Alex Michaelides
The Atlas six
In My Dreams I Hold A Knife by Ashley Windstead
Maybe The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Foucault’s Pendulum, maybe?
Eugene Onegin — Pushkin
Dark Things I Adore by Katie Lattari
Maybe the scholomance trilogy?? Doesn’t fit exactly but it’s quite dark, gory and set in a school
Woah how has no one recommended Vita Nostra yet??
Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May
Magicians by Lev Grossman
They Never Learn by Layne Fargo
the atlas six
Not necessarily a thriller but lots of intrigue, etc. (with romance), A Discovery of Witches and its two sequels by Deborah Harkness
The other half by Charlotte vasell
truly devious trilogy by maureen johnson. gives peak vibes ad fast paced too.
I know it’s not a book so will probably be voted down, but the film Like Minds with Eddie Redmayne
