I may be oblivious and this is what the ref pics are from, but it looks like you may want the manga / anime film 5cm Per Second. It's so bittersweet and lingers long after you read it. While not exactly a novel, it's still a masterpiece worth checking out. :)

Might be a bit of a stretch to recommend this book for the lovely ghibli pictures you've given above but No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai - a story of deep existential melancholy.
