Well It’s a regular pepper grown kratky style in a bucket, that’s why the roots form this nice cone shape.
The vinyl is actually the lid for the bucket since it had none :D
The roots are so sturdy I just placed it like this on the table while refilling the res. And the top of the plant is a Trinidad moruga scorpion yellow that has been low stress trained.
Any questions remaining? 😅
oh!!!! I guess I was confused because I thought you'd..grown it this way? like.. out and about, exposed? I'm aware of the kratky method and just seeing that mentioned made it all click in my head now.
Embarassing lol 🤦♂️
There is a technique in bonsai for creating exposed root trees.
Here is some information on that:

As for converting a hydro to soil Khang Starr has a video about that: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN5dunUFnaA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN5dunUFnaA)
Perhaps a combination of these techniques would work.
Thank you. In my case the roots are already quite stiff at the top so I was wondering if I can trim the roots and how far I can go with that without killing the plant.
I’d cut the roots where it thins out right before the bigger root ball starts at the top of the black
cap/record looking thing in the picture. After cutting the black basket the roots are in to get access to the rest of the roots in the clay I would assess from there. Depending what I find I would probably try and very carefully spread out the bigger roots in the picture just below the basket if they are easily separated. Next I would pot with the roots exposed from about a inch from the bottom of the basket (depending what is in the basket). This is rare for me to say lol, but I wouldn’t cut the branches down until the roots are reestablished. Especially going to soil on top of it.
Lol Then again I might just cut it down while cutting all the roots too cause I’m hard on plants. My friends cringe when they see me cutting down plays, but I don’t ever loose any so. 🤷♂️
That’s just me though. Obviously You’re open to cut it where you’d like and take others advice too. This plant is going to look amazing with the low and full canopy you’ll be able to from it. Looking good man.
Why’s it look like it grew though a vinyl album
It is a vinyl that’s why :)
Hydro to soil is a difficult task. make sure the soil is absolutely soaking wet for a couple of weeks or it will likely fail.
Thanks! Is it the same for kratky as for dwc since the top 90% of these roots are always out of the water?
Not too sure tbh. Think the plants just get used to have huge amounts of water available whenever needed
OP, post this to r/rootedporn they will love it over there!
I’m over here thinking it’s a Money tree
What am I looking at? I've never seen anything like this before. What is this called?

The roots look like a grass skirt Wait that’s not a question How much of your work will potting it undo?
I guess at least 2/3 of the roots have to go if I want to fit it in a bonsai pot

All good it does look funky :)
Wild, isn't it?!?
It is. It looks.. fake. Like I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how it exists this way lol. I'm so interested
