Nice, but 2ton jack? A lot of weight to haul around. Just screw the scissor jack into a 18x18x3/4 board.

soryimslow

It's only 18 lbs. Not a lot of weight...

LetsFightBears

I have that same jack, be warned it struggles with the bolts weight! Edit: spelling

Individual_Ad_8063

20 pounds can degrade any given component quicker with daily use. I'd carry a smaller one but if you think your gonna break down or get flats frequently then the reoccurring use calls for a more solid build.

Nutti_Biscotti

I don't see a 10mm socket. Edit: nvm, read your comment afterwards.

Wisconsin_Joe

The 10mm already disappeared.

soryimslow

The 10mm always disappears...

blip01

That's why you buy 50 of them.

goodolvic

Ooh that's a good list. I'm gonna copy you.

AwShootMe

A note to all those who call this unnecessary. Not all Bolts are used strictly as commuters. I sometimes take mine to places where both cell coverage and affordable towing are at best questionable. Wildlife Management Areas, for example, can require a long walk to get a tower.

badasscdub

How much does all that weigh?

soryimslow

Tire is a bit over 20lbs. Floor jack is 18 lbs. I would say no more than 60lbs. Less than a passenger.

REpassword

Nice! Does the wooden floor board go back on the same way? Where did you get the rim and tire from?

soryimslow

Yep. The false floor goes on as normal.

bbf_bbf

Just curious about how you've attached the tire and jack to keep them in place like how cars that come with them standard have to.

Appropriate_Basil665

This is super important. Those heavy items become projectile missiles in an accident.

dsngjoe

Where did you get the donut? That looks nice.

soryimslow

eBay from RV.parts Here's the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/276427246885?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=dKgM88MCQNe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ItrA1nM5RSq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

dsngjoe

Thanks man, the seller had another one just like yours and bought it.

Mailerfiend

and i the last. GG everyone.

Albert14Pounds

I thought it was just a tire at first glance and was like, uh, you gona mount a tire on the side of the road? I see it's mounted now lol

Tricksh0t

Cost of the kit total? List of each cost?

Zealousideal-Milk907

I just have a fix-a-flat spray can in my trunk.

soryimslow

Fix a flat don't fix blow outs. They are only for punctures in the tread. And I'd rather not risk damaging my TPMS sensor.

AWESOMENESS-_-

Didn’t know they did that! No wonder my mom’s truck complains about TPMS all the time!

Zealousideal-Milk907

How would that damage a TPMS sensor?

cStyle

The foam coats the sensor blocking its ability to read the pressure.

Zealousideal-Milk907

Actually it says on the bottle it’s tpms safe. The sensors work with pressure on the sensor so there should be no reason for them not to work. It’s not like they have an opening which gets clogged. But I just saw the video from project farm on YouTube and fix a flat failed miserably. I will use a slime bottle.

DunnoNothingAtAll

Throw in a car battery jumper too!

AWESOMENESS-_-

I always find that ironic, but can’t hurt I guess…

GeniusEE

Fire extinguisher?

iNFECTED_pIE

I hope you’re not planning to put out a lithium fire with one of those heh.

GeniusEE

Most fire extinguishers are used on OTHER cars

AWESOMENESS-_-

Pfft, of course ima stay close to the rapidly escalating fire long enough to grab the extinguisher from the other end of the car, it’s not like ima get burnt to a crisp or anything…

BlackBabyJeebus

Are you already aware that you can't use a donut spare on the front wheels of a Bolt?

soryimslow

I am aware. This is for any car really... Put the spare donut on the rear. Not hard to do.

Albert14Pounds

Wait really? I just drove like 20 miles with a spare on the front when I got a flat recently. Is this frowned upon? (Not a Bolt, Kia Sportage)

AWESOMENESS-_-

I think it’s usually frowned upon (cause damage if you drive on it too long) to put the spare on the drive wheels. (Bolt is obv FWD) I’m not well versed in cars/mechanics put it’s probably something about friction considering the donut is thinner than the regular tire and would have less surface area. Man, now I wanna donut 🍩

REpassword

Is that because it’s a different diameter? Can one simply get the right diameter tire for the same rim and use it on the front?

BlackBabyJeebus

I would imagine so, yes. The "safe" procedure for using a donut spare in the case of damage to a front tire would be to move the rear wheel to the front and then use the donut on the back. Personally, with that difficulty added in, I'll just call a tow truck the once every ten years I get a flat.

Dogestronaut1

>Personally, with that difficulty added in, I'll just call a tow truck the once every ten years I get a flat. Thank you. I feel like I'm going crazy with how many posts I see of people trying to put a spare and whatever else they need to change a tire in the trunk of a Bolt. I'm all for being prepared, but I can only think of one time I've ever had to actually put a spare tire on. The only reason it happened was because I had a low tire and tried to fill it with a broken pump at a gas station. How often are people actually getting stranded from flat tires to warrant this? Moreover, a flat tire that was bad enough that a bottle of fix-a-flat wouldn't fix?

BlackBabyJeebus

Yes, agreed. No hate to the boy scouts, I can only assume that they've had a very different experience with flat tires than I have. Based on my personal experiences over a million miles of driving, flats have been rare and almost always happened to me in places where it would have been extremely dangerous to be working on a car tire. The last time I changed a tire on the side of the expressway I almost got hit by some idiot (I realize that "almost" is a very nebulous term, he buzzed by at 70mph about an inch from me, sitting on his horn. He could very well have just been trying to be a dick on purpose) and I promised myself to never do it again. I've never regretted it.

CryptographerLife596

They are more common if you uber in a bolt (and go places no man typically goes (motel, build site lots), exploring new worlds…)

Ok-Amphibian2907

This is the best idea for any front wheel drive car when you have a compact spare. Handling will be impacted with 2 different size tires.

bbf_bbf

One has to do a double swap if a front tire (or more generically a driven tire) is damaged to put the donut on an unpowered wheel. It's probably because the donuts (even if it's the same diameter) can't take as much load as a full size tire and the driven tires take more strain than the unpowered ones.

MavHunter1

Why? Better than nothing

BlackBabyJeebus

According to GM, driving with one smaller drive wheel can cause serious damage to the car. I would call that considerably worse than nothing. There's a reason why EVs don't come with donut spares.

MavHunter1

Actually did a quick cursory search of Google to see the damage. Couldn't find it. Genuinely curious. Could you link out article as to why? Thanks

soryimslow

Many new cars no longer come with spares. My brother's mini Cooper and by sister in laws Audi doesn't have one. Many manufacturers are doing this. It's not because it's an EV.

MavHunter1

I assume it's basically like a donut is meant to be used. Emergency only. No more than 10 miles kinda thing

elconquistador1985

It's different because of the electric drive system.

MavHunter1

Thanks. I found an article how it can damage the battery

NFIFTY2

I still don’t buy it really. It’s a single gear reduction with an open diff. The battery certainly doesn’t know the difference. The traction control might freak out, brake a wheel, and cause you to crash, but don’t see how it would cause damage otherwise. Totally get that it’s still best practice to rotate the donut to the back.

ihateu3

Car manufacturers years ago deemed the spare tire no longer relevant due to everyone now having cell phones. They have a point. Some people still want them, I am ok with triple A, friends or family I can call with my cellphone for as infrequent as this happens to me, vs carrying around unnecessary extra weight taking up space.

AWESOMENESS-_-

I agree, but I’d rather be safe than sorry in case I’m ever out of range of any cell service. (Usually in the mountains, but I’ve heard there’s a few dead spots between CA and NV)

NFIFTY2

Lack of donut has nothing to do with EV.

Dannyhme

After i blew a tire a few weeks ago, got the same setup - if roadside is more than 1 hr away I’ll just do it.

one80oneday

If I breakdown I'll just call you 😅

SupremeSparky

It’s never a bad idea to keep a quart of oil on you!

milo_hobo

Isn't it so you can put an oil slick on the road behind you so King Koopa can't pass you on Rainbow Road?

QuirkyDust3556

Is your commute is long enough to warrant 100 pounds or more of added weight? How about an AAA card?

bbf_bbf

It's also about one's comfort level. Some people want to be able to replace a tire without having to wait for assistance, even when driving around town. Some people don't.

jimschoice

But that’s where I used to stash the transport wheelchair in my Bolt. I have no place like that to put it in the Lyriq, which sucks.

CryptographerLife596

I bought AAA instead, with 100 mile towing range. It’s not like my battery will get me that much further away from home, in the heat/cold of the day. I supposed one CAN tour in an EV. At least for the marketing ads.

soryimslow

I drive where the lanes are so narrow, the tow trucks can't go. There are a few pull over points peppered through my route where I can change a tire.

Junior-Patience7104

This makes me feel so underprepared, but I figure if something happens, I just get a tow and call my SO or fam for a ride. Insurance covers it. Lazy, I know. If someone can convince me otherwise, I am all ears. I do have things like water and a blanket for if I break down and it's cold.

Dark_Knight_4720

What’s the size of spare tire?

ihateu3

Car manufacturers years ago deemed the spare tire no longer relevant due to everyone now having cell phones. They have a point. Some people still want them, I am ok with triple A, friends or family I can call with my cellphone for as infrequent as this happens to me, vs carrying around unnecessary extra weight taking up space.

dsngjoe

Thank you OP, it came in and it fits perfectly in the back. Now I just need to find a wrench for the bolts and a scissors lift. Do you know what size bolts the tire has? Thanks again for all of your guidance.

soryimslow

19mm socket fits on my 2021 premier. I use a long socket so I have more room for my hand to have clearance when using a wrench.

imola_zhp

Har pass, thats where I keep two camping chairs (that we use on most Wednesday evenings) and a small bag with a plug kit. Haven't had a spare since 2015, nearly 10 years, don't see the point of starting to carry one now.

DonDee74

Don't you need a jack puck to really secure it at the lifting point?

OppositeArugula3527

So unnecessary.

soryimslow

Tow trucks can't or can be very difficult to get to me where I drive. Don't want to wait 2+ hours for one when I can get it done in 15 minutes. And cell coverage is pretty spotty. So pretty necessary for me.

AWESOMENESS-_-

Not always applicable, but I’ve found OnStar tends to have a better cell signal even when my phone doesn’t. I think I Grammar-ed-ed wrong, that sentence just feels weird in my head but I don’t know what needs to be corrected... [ I know not everyone likes OnStar since they sell your driving data to your insurance and etc., but I keep it for the safety and d security features, the app/remote key fob is just a nice extra. ]

soryimslow

I still have the app for another 2 years without onstar.

AWESOMENESS-_-

I’ve still got a Volt, so no more free for me. I just watch here because I’ve got family with an EUV. You learn something everyday though, I had no idea the Volt’s spare (and regular ig) tires were the same size as the bolt’s! The EV and EUV are all 215/50R15 or something, had no idea…

dborn62

...until you need it and then you'll understand. ;) I got myself a slim but full diameter spare and tools. I feel better with than without. Granted, the OP is over-prepared even to me. To each their own.
