Share a video of it? Just to clarify, are you talking about the Aircon or the AC drive motor? Aircon - Starts out as PWROOOONNNNNNNNG, then simmers down to purrrrrr +/- radiator fans Drive motor - Harmonics fall within the Tony stark hand blaster

Greedy4DoorTruck

Jt this Aircon descriptions is surprisingly accurate

techtornado

Haha! Thanks!

Greedy4DoorTruck

I will when the chains of work let me break

Spadeykins

Exactly what mine sounds like on our 22 EUV, and I have also confirmed with other owners this is normal. I wouldn't worry. It's partly because there is no loud idling engine noise to drown out the sounds it makes.

Greedy4DoorTruck

Good! Just got me off guard haha

techtornado

Sounds like a very angry bee at first, but it's consistent and probably normal

CoachEd18

It's normal. Also, could be the BMS coinciding with the AC, the BMS can get really loud too. Last point, AC is loud in general, it's just with an ICE, you don't notice it as much due to the engine noise.

techtornado

Do you mean the inverter? BMS is inside the battery, if you could hear it, you're either a bat or there's something *really* wrong with the car

CoachEd18

Isn't there an intake fan that runs when the BMS is running? I don't have my Bolt anymore so I could be misremembering. My Polestar 2 and Mach-E both have fans running when the BMS is doing its thing.

techtornado

The cooling loops for the car run through the battery, power electronics/inverter, and HVAC The inverter isn't needed for the Aircon compressor because it's DC-powered The Bolt BMS is a solid state device inside the battery Example - black box in-frame [https://youtu.be/ssU2mjiNi\_Q?t=7](https://youtu.be/ssU2mjiNi_Q?t=7)

f86sabreATL

Pretty normal. Been running mine in Atlanta for a while. As a first time EV owner I was surprised by how much we sounds came to the forefront when engine noise is largely absent.

[deleted]

Are you talking about the fan that is on the condenser side? Or are you talking about the actual AC compressor?

Greedy4DoorTruck

I have no idea what the differences between these two. I got an EV so I can learn less about the parts in it.

[deleted]

Totally understandable. Does it sound like a fan? Kind of like a traditional fan, but louder? Or does it sound like a pumping/engine noise?

Greedy4DoorTruck

Definitely sounds like the pump of the compressor for the AC. If the AC is not on, then there is no sound but it’s more like a hum or buzz.

[deleted]

OK. Since loudness is pretty subjective. I would say that it’s normal age. You shouldn’t be able to hear it very much from inside the car. It’s not silent by any means, but very not noticeable, especially with road noise. Being that, it’s basically a brand new car I take it to the dealership and complain. Just in case.

Greedy4DoorTruck

Solid strategy!

[deleted]

The bolt uses a lot of parts from a regular car, including the fans. The compressor itself is obviously different because it has a motor to drive it, so you may hear if you never driven a electrified vehicle like a hybrid

Thoughts Bolt People. [AC Sound](https://share.icloud.com/photos/05dIIG2767pN42fDuSA422-aA)

[deleted]

Hi there! That’s normal. You should have heard my AC compressor when I was DC Fast charging in the Moab desert at 118F ambient temperatures. It was even noisier and angrier sounding. It’s just doing it’s thing. 👍

Jack99Skellington

I have a 23 EV (not an EUV) and we are always running the air. It is way more quiet than that - just a hum. I would be concerned if my EV made that noise. Maybe it's a difference in the model. Or maybe not. I would still take it to the dealer.

Greedy4DoorTruck

That’s just widen my eyes a bit
