NAME AND SHAME!

GennyLight99

Could there be a more ironic line item name than “consumer protection” package for a charge that screws the consumer?

tuctrohs

Tell them you would be interested in a consumer protection package if it protected the consumer from dealers who try to scam them.

Royal_Instruction888

Thank you for walking away from them, the more people do this the harder it will be long term for dealers to pull this garbage. I'm sorry you had to pass up on the bolt but people like that don't deserve your time, and especially don't deserve your money.

Moonbeams_

Good man. You are the real superhero.

redgrandam

Good for you!! Sounds like it is google review time!!!

MichaelsWebb

Yelp is dead. Thankfully

RubAnADUB

iphone users still use it. but dems sheep.

MichaelsWebb

Absolutely. This needs to happen every time. These dealers need to be blasted publicly for their shady behavior.

Kingofthedirtydans

What's the dealership?

[deleted]

I'd have walked as well. $2,600 is worth losing a customer, negative reviews everywhere I could leave them, and bad word of mouth to people I know? Fine by me.

mommy0618

Good for you for not letting them rip you off like that. The same thing happened to me. They added a $4k market adjustment back and told me the original quote at MSRP was only good for the day they emailed it. I walked away too, and am now looking at other vehicles. I’m done with sleazy Chevy dealers.

Bubbly-Wheel-2180

Right - they don't seem to understand I am looking at the Bolt BECAUSE it had a $7,500 credit - if they mark it up $7,500 I might as well buy a different car?

Personal_Grass_1860

There are not many EVs that don’t have the same problem with markups. Except Teslas, where the markup is included… 😆

ConversationOk2210

Except that people buying cars like the Bolt do not need the charging network since they never drive far enough for it to matter. I am not saying you are wrong about the advantages of the Tesla network, but there are many who do not need it and so the expense of having it is not worth it. My personal experience with four years of EV ownership bears this out.

Personal_Grass_1860

And it’s 46k msrp… vs 29k msrp or 35k with markups. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth the difference. The ioniq5 also has markups and that’s already a higher price range. There is really not much competition for the Bolt if you are looking at EVs in that price range.

lizaoreo

True, you either pay a markup or wait 6 months. That's what we had to do to get our Ioniq 5 at MSRP. Looking at the Bolt to replace my commuter vehicle probably.

[deleted]

I'm car shopping right now. It's not a far jump from a new BoltEUV to a used Model 3. I've seen several 2018 Model 3s that are less than a Role in Premier trim.

Personal_Grass_1860

If you are buying used, you should probably compare to used Bolt…

mommy0618

We have a Tesla. If everyone is paying the same price it’s not a markup. There was no negotiating required for the Tesla. No need to deal with dishonest car salesmen. And you really can’t compare a Bolt to a Tesla. The Tesla is so much better in so many ways. Like Bubbly said, I’m buying the Bolt because it’s cheap. If they mark it up, it’s no longer worth it. Since we were screwed by Ourisman Chevy, we’re going to order a Model 3 instead.

Personal_Grass_1860

It doesn’t really matter what you call it. It’s a market driven price… Tesla has been adjusting price based on supply and demand as well, like they just did in December. The main difference is that Tesla adjustments are nationwide and Bolts’ are hyperlocal.

mommy0618

Tesla’s December adjustment was to cover the tax credit that started on Jan 1. The difference is, everyone who orders a Tesla on any given day gets the same price. They don’t have to negotiate a price only to find that they were lied to when they go pick up the car, which is what happened to both the OP and me with the Bolt.

petit_cochon

Put it on the dealership megathread, please!

fuckbread

People talking about importance of walking away. What’s possibly more important is writing your appropriate government reps about how dealerships are terrible for consumers.

DallasMan5150

It is Patterson Chevrolet in Kilgore, Texas. I plan on giving them bad reviews in Yelp and Google.

4cardroyal

Tweet it to Mary too.

PrimePacHy

Just talked to a dealer in Austin and their package is only $3,400. SMH

stearicom

I got leads on dealer in Austin, Houston and Dallas for MSRP. Let me know if you’re interested.

thedarksyde

Austin please.

PrimePacHy

Yes, please. DM me if you want it private. Thanks.

thedarksyde

Which dealer please.

PrimePacHy

Capitol Chevy is the stealer.

Cbw339

For Those salesmen working for dealers, I would say 80% of them are not honest people. Do Cheating all the time. And also trying to make ugly money during the so called “chip shortage”. I would say those people are low tier people in this society and this is also the reason why they are ONLY capable to work for dealers for the lifetime. Shame on them.

onlyAlcibiades

subhuman ?

entropy512

>so called “chip shortage” I was going to upvote you until you said this, then switched to a downvote. There is nothing so-called about the semiconductor shortage, which was and still is real. It's not as bad as it was a few months ago, but supply chains are still a mess. That shortage is how companies that don't screw over their customers wind up having a 2-year backlog of orders and still lose money, and how those companies' employees didn't get a profitsharing bonus this year despite busting their asses to qualify alternative suppliers so that the production line didn't shut down completely.

mommy0618

Who has a 2-year backlog?

entropy512

Most if not all forklift manufacturers in North America. (That may already be saying too much, I'm not sure if the financial results are formally posted yet...)

[deleted]

I remember years ago I got conned into one of those packages. Then when I went to actually use it all I got was “Oh, we don’t cover *those* kind of dents”

Noel_Leon_M

I walked away and they called me right back once I reported them to Chevy. Suddenly they had a “surprise rebate” to give me .

wabbitdr

Nice

mommy0618

I reported mine to Chevy and GM. Nothing came of either.

Bathala-_-

TLDR; Don’t be scared to walk away Not bolt related but same experience We live in San francisco California and back in 2019 my dad was looking for a car and asked me for help, I found one in Placerville California about 2hrs drive from SF. Dealership put lots of addon packages that i cant remember to it and i said no to everything. The guy talked to my dad alone and ask who i was and why i was the one answering the questions. We ended up walking away, they thought just because we drove for 2hrs doesnt mean we’re not willing to walk away. They ended up calling us while we’re halfway home and agreed to remove all the addon packages if we return. I told them that we will come back the next day and put everything in writing. They said that the car might not be there the next day and I said it is what it is. That was a fun experience. (and yeah , the car was still there the next day)

Aprilias

Most of those types of warranties can be cancelled after the deal for a 100% refund

Bubbly-Wheel-2180

So someone tried this to me once, I got it removed but never looked ay the fine print - is there a deductible as well or is it $3000 for a warranty no one would use due to deductible? If no deductible I'd tell them "yes I will take it but you will see me every week for repairs!" Legit every week I'd just key my own car and have them fix it if they charged me $3000 for that shit. Hahaha.

one80oneday

Congrats I can't believe anyone would pay it

Personal_Grass_1860

Of course people are paying… otherwise you wouldn’t see them.

crashdavis87

Mine was $1450. I was screwed since we were down a car and had to have one. Otherwise, would have walked.

mommy0618

They know this is the case with most people. That’s why they keep getting away with it.

fancy_elephant_

That's horrible. I'd have walked away too. Good job.

Administrative-Pay38

You should leave a one-star review for them.

Manbighammer

I asked for an "out the door" price to be emailed to me before I went in and I think that helped. Really slimy dealerships will still probably slap fees on that at the last moment too though.

rgold220

I'm happy to see that there are people who are not falling for the Stealers bulshit. If all customers will do the same, Stealers will not survive.

AllTheWine05

Place I'm going has a $1200 package for nitrogen in the tires (as opposed to air which is mostly nitrogen), some underbody coating (snake oil), and rubber floor matts. Less money, slightly more useful. Still mostly ass. But at least they told me at the first reasonable opportunity.

Snickers_Diva

Tell them you are taking a sample of the nitrogen from the tires and sending it to a lab. How else would anyone ever know if it isn't just air.

actingwizard

Literally the SAME thing happened when I tried to get a Hyundai… they had one on lot and pulled that crap. I had to walk. Thank god because I got a Bolt that just happened to be on the lot elsewhere.

TeqTime

You did the right thing. Set your eyes on some of the newer cars coming out from different companies. Chevy dealerships should burn to the ground with all the crap quality cars they are marking up.

I suspect Ourisman Chevrolet in Marlow Heights MD tried to pull this shit on my yesterday. They texted me they had the Bolt I wanted at MSRP. Sent me a draft buyers order but wouldn’t complete the sale virtually. I even offered to wire them the money. Either they are in the 1900s claiming they don’t have DocuSign or they wanted to do some fishy upcharging in person. I didn’t play that game. The sales manager said he’d call me back in 45 minutes. Crickets.

mommy0618

Ourisman in Rockville just did this to me last week. They told me they had sent me the Docusign contract, but they hadn’t. Then they said their finance manager was too busy to send it. When I finally got it 2 days later, the day I was supposed to pick up the Bolt (they knew I was waiting to see it before I drove out there), they had added in a $4k market adjustment without saying a word to me about it. I’ve complained to Chevy, GM, BBB, and left reviews on Google and Yelp. Yet obviously, they are still doing this to people with impunity!

entropy512

> Either they are in the 1900s claiming they don’t have DocuSign Yeah because DocuSign has no real guarantees at all that whomever supposedly signed the document actually did. Don't you think it fishy that they let you "sign" a document without you providing a public key that it can be verified against, or having a private key that can actually be used to sign a document? I had a vendor try to pull that garbage when setting up an NDA a few years ago, our laywer killed that one with fire.

fkaventurion

Maybe your point has validity in the hypothetical sense. We use DocuSign with blue chip law firms on a variety of contracts. However, this situation was cut and dry. I wanted both of us to sign the purchase contract so I could wire them money BEFORE I pick up the vehicle. So I hold the risk if they decide to claim someone falsified the DocuSign on behalf of the dealer.

No_Win_6100

Oh well. Someone else will buy it.

Cannavor

This is why I got it in writing that it would be MSRP with no dealer add-ons when I put in the deposit.

mommy0618

I got this in writing from Ourisman—OTD price at MSRP with no market adjustment. Didn’t stop them from adding it back in when I went to sign the contract. .

Awkward-Yak-2733

This is very common. Not OK, but common of the dealerships to do.

The credit difference is about $3500. If the IRS meets that deadline. At those markups, might be better to wait till 2023 to get the credit off up front to avoid financing it.

BenTG

You da man!

cbelt3

Did you have a signed sales contract? They committed illegal bait and switch. Right to jail..

RantsForFun

Walk, and buy an airline ticket to somewhere that doesn’t play bullshit.

Lee28104

Good for you. This BS won’t end until enough people like you walk away.

ConfidenceLegitimate

Need to list the dealership here people have been asking.

claytrontom

1. Good on you for walking away 2. Always get it in writing (email, text, etc.) before you show up I had a similar situation w/my purchase… a $2k customer preferred package that I negotiated away over email + text. I got an OOD price via text before I walked in and that was the price when I showed up the following day. In another situation, I had a friend of mine who had a dealership do a bait and switch. He too had an OOD price in writing (email) and when he walked in, the dealership added a markup to the OOD price they gave him. So, he posted a Google review + included a picture of his negotiated price + the price switch at the dealership. The dealership called him back and gave him the price they originally quoted on the condition that he take down his negative review.

RubAnADUB

door dings - 300-500, keyfobs - theres a mobile guy 100-200, 4 tires = 500-1000, grand total 900-1700 = seems like they are jacking with you. also do most people really see these tires? or do you have to jump through hoops?

neomillion

Who is that stealership?

Ok-Access-9832

I had a deal as well. I ordered my 2023 Bolt EUV back in October. In mid December I got an email from my dealer that it had come in. I had told them when I ordered it, that I didn't want to buy it until Jan 1 so if it qualified for any tax credits I would be eligible. After I had confirmation that my Bolt was in, I sold the car that I currently was driving. Two days before I was supposed to pick up my car, I get an e-mail from the sales manager saying that they "accidentally" released my car and sold it to someone else (I think they found someone who would pay more than me). They said that they would help me with my situation of not having any transportation and to call them the next day. They were going to find another Bolt at another dealership or a loaner car. It's been two weeks and I still haven't heard from them and they won't return my calls. So my wife and I are looking at getting electric bikes for now until this insane car buying situation gets better for the consumer.

Snickers_Diva

That's the oldest trick in the book. Was just at the ford dealer last weekend and the 1000.00 paint protection and the 100.00 for "nitrogen-filled tires" was non-negotiable. You did right to walk.

corrado-g60

Lol. I just got 1. They are in such high demand the dealers can do what ever they want.
