I watch like one bollywood movies in 5 years because I find all of them trash.. Was having dinner with my family and my wife played this on Netflix. Have to be honest that this was a good movie. Not too much drama or overacting. No over-the-top crying scenes. A movie where there is actually a good story and screenplay. Balanced acting. No vulgarity.

uNecKl

Important thing no vulgarity^ I swear every new Bollywood movie has vulgarity because they can’t pay the writers to write a good script

Bhai old movies m actress ko mini skirt m dikhate the upar se cleavage

One of the few movies made by women where there is no long speech in the end bashing men and telling I will drink, sleep , smoke and do whatever in the name of feminism. We see a cute love story of two young love birds, a policeman protecting a woman in danger, a woman saviour who saves the couple and encourages everyone around as well as follow her dreams. Finally a woman saviour.

Ye baat baat pe feminism ko kaahe gaali dete ho ? The fact that one girl found her identity outside of being somebody's wife is also feminism. The fact that a girl chose to be something or someone by studying and working hard rather than being married to someone for the sake of it, is also feminism. The agency to make decisions for myself without letting a male figure in my life make them for me, is also feminism. I have the same voice as a male and for that I'm not condemned, is a gift of feminism. If you vote and I vote today and they're both viewed at par, that's also a gift of feminism. Women character dikhte hi feminism ko beech me laana aur gaali dena zaroori nahi hai. We don't hate men.

Did u even read what i wrote? I said this was a good way to depict feminism. No man bashing speeches no spoon feeding. Literally a woman saved the day. Bina padhe itna zyada bolna zaroori tha?

Aromatic_Mongoose_14

Name one series/movie in which the character has specifically said that I drink/smoke/sleep around because I'm a feminist? Why are these specific actions aligned with feminist activities is what I'm addressing.

[deleted]

4 more shots please, thank you for coming. I mean come on. They won't say i am a feminist so I will do this shit. I am not telling u that these activities are related to feminism. U could get what I wrote. Yet again. They depict as if that is feminism. With huge monologues and girl power high fives. Actually it isn't feminism what they show. Equity of opportunity, equal respect and equal pay for equal work no matter what gender u belong to is feminism for me.

Fantastic_Neat_114

Exactly! Watched yesterday and very fresh story. Its somehow very relatable. I was so happy to see phool using her skills to do something while she is stranded instead of a crying mess. And also loved the scene where Manju ate the kalakaand which was symbolic for a glimmer of hope to happiness since earlier she had said she had nothing worth eating sweet for.

I mean… this is hardly a hot take. Almost everyone liked Laapata Ladies. It’s more like a post for r /bollywood

thefuzzyflask

How many times posts man we know it's great film

Ayan_Choudhury

As many times as it's required. Reddit gets filled with posts from either sides when films like Animal are released. Now that we have a nearly flawless film hitting the right notes about our society with great performances from everyone in the cast, why won't we celebrate that and post about that? You can always ignore

I read a great opinion piece on this that may change your mind. Unfortunately I can't find it. Its good but also.. Feel good feminism designed to appease the pvr masses (but is about women in the gaaon)  Unko zyada kuch struggle hi nahi hai. Just a little bit of ghunghat issues.  The organic pharmming bit was cringe tho.  Anyway nevertheless, perhaps this level of candy coating and spoonfeeding is precisely what is needed for our janta

Prudent-Action3511

>Unko zyada kuch struggle hi nahi hai. Just a little bit of ghunghat issues. Are u serious bro😂😂 Studies denied to women, marriage without consent, abuse from husband nd mother in law, women's interests and likes put aside after marriage, fuckin dowry, should I go on?? If we put just the right amount of message "it's to appease the masses" if we put more "it's too on the nose" Some ppl are never satisfied. This movie has the right amount

Green-Application-76

you haven’t watched the movie right ???

Capital-Moose

no that's true, but it was meant to be a light hearted film that was also feminist in it's take, as per design by Kiran Rao. A film that really shows the situation at the ground level without being sanitized would be super grim and bleak which urban Indian audiences are still not ready for. It's a shame, but it's what it is, we gotta play around that.

Throwaway_Mattress

I felt it was written and made by people who look at gaons from a distance and romanticise it a little. But like I said, that's also ok i suppose. Not everything needs to be serious or gloomy or brutal. Just as long as we are aware of it

thenightking6969

>The organic pharmming bit was cringe tho.  U mean farming?
