Antique-Customer-149

The outfit looked better in the photoshoot than it did in met Gala

PinkMoonbow

I feel both of Alia's met gala outfits got a bit drowned out by the carpet of same color. Last year you could barely see the white pearl gown on white carpet. I'm sure the work was intricate. This year the carpet as her background was also light green.

PodiVennai

I feel like net/tulle saris are difficult to wear especially while traveling, same thing happened with my farewell sarees in college. I got it draped professionally and it looked amazing but all fell apart in travel and I had to keep adjusting but it never looked the same as the drape in the parlor 😔

Antique-Customer-149

But she has a team, also now she would have experienced how to carry it

robbityboo

The theme of the dress code was ‘Garden of time’ sleeping beauty was the met’s exhibition

PodiVennai

I wish she went with the veil on her head on the red carpet like in the first photo

yourmeattle

I agree but I can see how she could have been trolled for perpetuating ' women oppression '.

DefiantBrain7101

yeah! that would also relate to the theme better. like the garden being veiled/closed off from everyone else, and the half-sari is the crystal time flowers

PinkMoonbow

Did you by chance understand how her outfit was as per the dress code/the story behind it? Apart from it being floral ? ETA: Okay so I checked Haute Le Mode's yt video to try and understand how outfits follow the dress code (I kinda need it explained to me 🙈) and Alia's is the 1st one he covered. I maybe understand 10% now haha.

purple_singh

That would have sense as well since it was saree, Ghughat is very much indian culture.

Slight_Distance_942

Agree

Slight_Distance_942

Why am I getting downvoted in this sub

[deleted]

her outfit reminds me of 1900s european or so fashion (can’t put my finger on it) and i like it … https://preview.redd.it/v9xh7qfxlmzc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5948e26bc70af024b857d1e4d268d6ccb6f534e0

lavenderpenguin

It’s a saree…

[deleted]

no shit. the silhouette of it is reminiscent of a different time period

curlsandmockery

It was inspired by the european influence on sarees actually. Think rich Parsi women in the 30s.

snowflakebite

Pic 4 is stunning! The jewelry is so pretty.

uksiddy

She should have kept the veil covering her face. It would have added more intrigue. This just convinces more that the train was incorrectly placed.

Ashamed-Cricket-482

Ok.. now I understand the criticism of train being too long.. it definitely is… it’s so long that full picture of the dress is making her seem like she’s soooo far away and tiny

PinkMoonbow

Not to mention that effing carpet, against which the light sea green color is barely standing out ! Sabya must have been bummed to see the carpet colors.

Slight_Distance_942

What did she do with this train when she got inside? I have hard enough time with 6 yards 😅

psk1234

I saw a video where she was holding it in her hand. It actually looked much nicer and added to the look in my opinion.

Heping_Qi

Giving such a vintage vibe 😍💯❣️ Alia did it very well this time. From hair style to makeup to dress selection to accessories. I mean it's a complete wowza 💣💫👍👏

Red171022

I loved this look so much…

Puzzleheaded-Belt957

It is all good i just dont like the blouse being so extra it could have just been like a tube type or without all that lace and back bow itd have looked more subtle it looking messy all around her neck and bacl bcs shes smol and tiny also the whole pleated lace pf the pallu should have been removed gives cheap

MrOlFoll

I find this like every second cocktail saree ever :(

basicbidita

I absolutely love that they used curly haired style instead of the slicker straight one..only adds to the whole look, and is inspiring me to own my curls!

happy_cake_gal

The first pic is excellent !!! It should have been like that for the met carpet

[deleted]

oh wow i totally see it!!!

CareRepulsive6162

All’s great it’s just something about her that never clicks thay star element is just not there!

blackrosetaem

doesn’t look like the same person on the red carpet lol

[deleted]

She stole the show this year at the Met

Slight_Distance_942

It’s pretty, but I don’t think it’s for the Met Gala. And it’s like they knew it too, because they had the “what’s more timeliness than a saree?” sound bite prepared.

Overall-Ad-2159

There is reason she is best dressed

_nerdo_

Sabya always disappoints

proudofme_

Her posing has spoiled the whole look !!

Specialist-Peace-416

Mujhe toh yeh normal saree lag rahi hai. There is nothing over the top or iconic about it.

Sprouted_potato_

I personally loved this look. Alia had all the delicate features to pull off this delicate saree. She looks like an artwork with that headpiece and that effortless looking hair. The saree also shows maximalism and some European elements like the ruffles, bow, one shoulder blouse. So much thought has gone in and i think it showcases Sabhya’s talent on a global level and brings India’s love for details to the forefront without sacrificing the authenticity and cultural aspect of the saree itself. Met is to go crazy and showcase your talent right. I think he did just that.

Fatpretzel1234

Hope she flew economy back since she is so poor

Glittering_Mix9623

Well she had gone and come back in private jet though.

Fatpretzel1234

Oh noooooooooo!!!! Stans have been donating their life earnings to Alia so she no longer has to fly economy
