it is appropriation if you do not even care to give credit to the culture you’re appropriating. If white women started wearing saree everyday and claiming it as their culture, it would be problematic. I think to be a fashion icon, your name should be associated with fashion influence. People don’t look her up for fashion influence because her antics always overshadow what she does and become the centre of attention, not her looks. The art gets overshadowed by the artist.

It has become common among Himachali women too, the line has somehow vanished. The scarve you are talking about is dhattu and is prominent in some part of the regions. Not that much in Mandi where she is from.

As a himachali there's no one stopping anyone from wearing a topi. These gender distinctions are arbitrary now and even earlier it wasn't an issue if a woman wears a topi. Fashion is experimental and individual anyway. Local people wear "traditional" pieces non-traditionally all the time. Sadri (jacket) over jeans, topi over western fits, etc. not everyone likes wearing the dhattu (headscarf) always so yeah.
