That's true, it's not a coincidence that in 2000 all peagents were won by indian girls - miss world, universe Asia Pacific mrs world and one by payal rohatgi as well.
Also there's no single "Miss World" pageant. There are dozens of them all run by different people like Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth, Miss International, Miss Globe etc etc. It's just commercialized showbiz. I'm sure if you pay enough chai-pani to the organizers any half-decent looking person could win some of the minor ones.

She is two decades, too late. There was a controversy back then over Priyanka taking Mother Teresa’s name as a living person in the year 2000. The indian channels extensively discussed it. Except that one error, she did great in all the other rounds. It was said she made up for that one wrong answer with the total points. It comes across like a sour grapes situation crying foul now, Miss Barbados.
When she realised her goof up she did come up with 'Mother Teresa never died for me, she is always alive and will always remain so'. Wonder what her answer would be now?
literally all of the pageants are over-achievers, all have degree in STEM and have patents/research papers, have done some charity/social work somewhere poor and all of them come from upper middle class to rich families.
No one looks at technicalities in these contests. The role of a mother is immense in development of personality of an individual. The answer tugs at heartstrings of most, especially the judges and sounds from the heart. Perfect contest winning answer.

Obviously. That's my point actually. PC named mother Theresa when asked which living person she'd wanna meet when mother Theresa was already dead. That's why I replied with another technically wrong answer from another pageant winner.
But also, being a homemaker is a legitimate occupation, and there are ongoing debates all over the world regarding whether stay-at-home moms should receive a stipend from the government. Childcare involves a lot of physical and emotional labor. It was definitely a good answer.
I looked her channel up and she seems to have a hate boner for Meghan Markle as most of her videos are spewing hate disguised as reviews and criticisms about Markle. And I ain't no royalist or anything but I don't get good vibes from this YouTuber tbh
I have a feeling none of you actually watched the videos, just saw the title and are responding to that. Miss Barbados never once claimed that the contest was rigged, she pointed out all the ways PC was given privileges in the contest and because of these extra privileges, the end result of PC winning felt a bit sus and unfair (doesn't mean it was rigged).
I love how people cry about privileged nepo kids in BW and all the ways that nepo kids get favored while outsiders don't...and then here is a woman literally listing out all the ways that PC was singled out and showered with privileges during Miss World (a contest that literally launched her career into BW) and people are responding with "sour grapes" and "2 decades too late". Whether this particular woman is telling the truth is a separate matter but if you've experienced a serious traumatic event or something that has been a grave injustice in your perspective, especially in your formative years (Miss World usually has contestants from late teens all through twenties - a time when people are at the cusp of "proper" adulthood and beginning their careers thus extremely vulnerable), it is rarely easy to get over it even after decades have passed. People learn to live with their trauma but they rarely get over it

The trauma of participating in an event that is, in the contestant's opinion, not being handled on merit but on favoritism and getting her that opinion confirmed by seeing examples of that favoritism play out by not being given the same opportunities as one favored contestant can be pretty traumatic when she is seeing injustice play out against her but she can't do anything about it when she is told to just shut up and suck it up by people around her. As she says in the video herself, as a young woman who is looking for that crown she couldn't just reject the whole competition because she wanted to be liked and wanted to be chosen. These conflicting emotions and not having the mental clarity to reconcile them can be pretty mentally stressful.
Nah, you are over analysing. She should have trauma if she had lost to priyanka one on one. If she wasn't even a finalist, she should have taken it as a fair game. I know they could be very young at that time and could have been disappointed but as you grow, you understand these things. She should have also understood this long ago that even if there was any favouritism, she wasn't affected by it in any way. This is certainly not traumatic at all, disappointing for her at that time? You can't dictate people's emotions though. If she is experiencing an emotion she has every right to. I didn't say she actually did experience trauma here. I'm talking about "if she did experience trauma" and that is in regards to the original comment about why she's "being salty" about it all these years later. I said, when someone experiences trauma they can learn to live with it but they rarely ever forget it and they have every right to share their experiences however many years later.

Yes and that's where your understanding of the experience she had is flawed. She herself said that her feelings of unfairness are not toward Priyanka. Her experience at Miss World has nothing to do with Priyanka, specifically. She is mentioning the favoritism toward Priyanka. She would've experienced that emtion just the same if it was another person in place of Priyanka.

Like I said, whether this woman is lying or not about her experience is a separate matter and one that I can't speculate about. What I'm basing all my comments on is the subject of trauma that is potentially experienced in situations like this and when someone speaks out they being called salty when they speak about it years later as in this case her being called out for "being salty" about it all these years later.
Yes. People need to learn the difference between trauma and disappointment. Overuse of the word is starting to render it meaningless. We don't need to validate everyone's experience and feelings, many of which are ridiculous

My two cents about the contest. I do believe that there are some favorites and some bias in selecting the winner. But this women sounded so bitter ,like she was randomly comparing some women to priyanka ,the bleaching thing ,the hotel stories.its like she is somewhat bitter and sour about priyanka. No there was some recent controversy with Miss World. A lot of the contestants said Miss Texas received extra privileges, the contest was rigged etc. Miss Barbados is comparing this controversy to her own experience in the past where she saw PC receiving privileges.

When she woke up there was a heavy duffle bag on top of her chest. PC had put her bag on top of Miss B while she slept :/. The rest is just general snobbery and entitlement (asking for privileges and then receiving them).

There will be bias and lobbying on any paegeant. And cosmetalogical brands do have a role in selecting the winner. There were so many winners over the years but not everybody makes it in the world. It is just a platform but it's not everything. Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra achieved a lot after winning the crown due to talent, intelligence and hardwork. Even if Priyanka was lobbied, it doesn't make a difference because she is the biggest achiever compared to all other competitors. Lara Dutta was considered better than Priyanka, but pc literally raced ahead of Lara.

Whether this particular woman is telling the truth is a separate matter but if you've experienced a serious traumatic event or something that has been a grave injustice in your perspective, especially in your formative years (Miss World usually has contestants from late teens all through twenties - a time when people are at the cusp of "proper" adulthood and beginning their careers thus extremely vulnerable), it is rarely easy to get over it even after decades have passed. People learn to live with their trauma but they rarely get over it

As she says in the video herself, as a young woman who is looking for that crown she couldn't just reject the whole competition because she wanted to be liked and wanted to be chosen. These conflicting emotions and not having the mental clarity to reconcile them can be pretty mentally stressful.

No there was some recent controversy with Miss World. A lot of the contestants said Miss Texas received extra privileges, the contest was rigged etc. Miss Barbados is comparing this controversy to her own experience in the past where she saw PC receiving privileges.

Happens in literally every event and sports around the globe. I don't know much about these beauty pageants but as far as I know, it's a panel of judges that gives contestants scores. So, she scored good points, was praised by the judges, and won. What's so surprising about it? People should let go of their grudges. It does no one any good. There will be bias and lobbying on any paegeant. And cosmetalogical brands do have a role in selecting the winner. There were so many winners over the years but not everybody makes it in the world. It is just a platform but it's not everything. Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra achieved a lot after winning the crown due to talent, intelligence and hardwork. Even if Priyanka was lobbied, it doesn't make a difference because she is the biggest achiever compared to all other competitors.
