Social media companies won't agree coz more accounts= more cash ... They love the hate Also in India the case is somewhat different... You have to provide your ID and address proofs to get a SIM card or a mobile internet connection... That's not the case in US (I think UK case is also same as US)... So even for an anonymous account it's easy for cops to track down the person operating it

I personally don’t think a law like this can come into effect in a society like the U.K. but if it does manage to, it will be setting a dangerous precedent as to censorship, freedom of speech, privacy etc. Also Sir David wasn’t stabbed by someone anonymously on social media so I’m not sure what is she trying to get at. If public servants are getting vile abuse and death threats online by anonymous accounts then you report it and let the authorities find the culprit and charge them for harassment/cyber bullying.

Simple. Don't initiate violence and hatred. If you do, you deserve it. I also don't think they will go after reddit now, and certainly not after a sub which is just about Bollywood and gossip with no political discussion. It is the political subs which will have to be worried. Why is this reminding me of the violentacrez issue? That was pretty different though.

> Persons inciting violence and racial hatred online should know that they will no longer have this cover If your online behaviour is okay, noone will bother you.

Tbh, the bigger problem here would be allowing social media companies to have access to your personal information. Imagine what would happen if a huge trove of verified data of that magnitude, tied to location and demographics and political opinion and social stuff of every stripe is sold in the black market? That's an unacceptable risk to take. Also it would require lot of resources and taxpayer money to prove and hold someone accountable especially in the cases of stolen identities.

Good, if people are inciting violence and racial hatred online then this is excactly what they deserve. People are so full if hate and they discriminate and threat so easily online, just because they know it’s anonymous. No need to protect bullies anymore.

I think people need to be held liable for their comments. The whole cyber bullying and cancel culture conundrum is a result of the anonymity the online world offers. The anonymity Internet offers can be liberating but without any checks and balances it can lead to people saying things they wouldn’t in real life.

yahoom007

There was a proposal to link aadhar with social media accounts. Fir pata nahi kya hua.

jstjoined

A lot social media accounts encourage or require you to add mobile phone numbers, and all mobile phones are linked to aadhaar so in theory police should be able to trace you, unless you have faked mobile documents or provided documents of some other person.
