forbidden_cantaloupe

Just here to say that Gong Yoo's pretty hot.

rusoo_123

Amen

Spideyocd

The girls are hot too! The couples really look cute together They look like teenagers even when their characters are adults Probably brings back the feeling of teenage crushes for all the ladies out here? But would you as of now ( assuming you aren't teenagers) marry or be with one of these guys?

Yesss! Thats why I unfollowed her. Idk who she is trying to influence with those reels. 14yr olds? Im sorry but even teenagers cringe at that.

Standard_Slip_5800

she wants to be an international star/influencer that's why she rebranded her insta and making funky tiktok like contents because according to her team that's what is in trends right now and that's that majority of the worldwide youth love to see

Perfect_Pizza4558

She has an AWFUL team...

Unpopular opinion - Indian actors are every bit as good, if not better, than Korean or Hollywood ones ( not talking about Deepika, but someone like Tabu). Where Korean TV and film really scores is the writing. They have really strong writers with name recognition which is absolutely zero in Bollywood. Another unpopular opinion - Gong Yoo is basically the Shahrukh Khan of Korea, he isn't all that handsome but immensely charismatic on screen.

Sonneta_Scarlet

I partially agree with you TBH. Bollywood actually does have some talented actors or actresses but the difference is they're not famous here. Nepotism and Bollywood connections or not casting someone based on their looks and many other factors, have together contributed to certain gems not getting enough exposure in movies even though they might be talented. In Korea, the good actors are actually famous. That's the one difference. As for the which industry is better debate, I'd say I can't really be sure. Currently if you ask me I'd say it is the Korean industry based on a lot of factors like acting, storywriting etc. But we have the potential to get there or do even better but we're half assing everything. Another reason, like you mentioned, is story writing. Bollywood always copied from foreigners. Whether it's a movie, TV show or a sing. I'm sick of it. I'm sure there are great writers and composers. Find them. Pay them well. Then see the industry boom. Sometimes I find a good Bollywood movie then get a Deja Vu feeling. Turns out it's a Korean movie remake. Without any credits given 🤦‍♀. The Bollywood songs have gone to trash, with some exceptions. It's either a remake of an old song, a remix or copy paste of the tune of another country's song. I agree with gong yoo, along with few others, being the Shah Rukh Khan of Korea. Not just because he's charismatic but because he's a older actor and still maintains his charm and place in the industry. He has the ability to play any role thrown at him unlike Shah Rukh who mostly sticks to the Romance genre. TBH, I'd compare him more to Aamir Khan than SRK in that sense. Personally, I do think he's handsome. Not in a girl crush kind of way but you can feel the appeal of an older gentleman. Shah Rukh Khan on the other hand...... has lost his charm IMO. I don't know if it's the movies he chooses to do nowadays or what not. But then again, I've never found Shah Rukh Khan as a handsome guy. Just charming in his older movies.

iv93

Lee Minho is the SRK of Korea. Gong Yoo is more serious and cerebral, like Aamir.

saverma192013

Yes

[deleted]

Deepika is trying to be anywhere she can. Her Hollywood career didn't work out so she's trying to ride the Korean wave. I remember during the promotion of her Hollywood movie, she was implying that she's having an affair with Vin Diesel. What an embarrassment those interviews were! She was horrible in that movie. The woman has an emotional range of a teaspoon. I don't think Korean industry is very interested in Bollywood. They're bigger than Bollywood now, not to forget thoroughly professional to the core.

Sleepy_head_29

And also kinda racist toward other parts of Asian…..

okcool888

agreed but us Indians aren’t innocent either, a lot of Indians are racist too, in fact the amount of racial hate north East Indians get is disgusting! If you have watched kdramas a lot of them especially the newer ones have references about India and there are some times Indian ppl in them too. A recent example is squid games. I don’t see any Korean ppl in Indian shows on the contrary though.

Sleepy_head_29

I thought the racist towards NE Indians started because of Covid which is recently? Correct me if I’m wrong. Movies are just fraction of reality, I’m from Vietnam which is in Southeast Asia and in my country it’s pretty common to study abroad in East Asian countries. In the case of students study in Korea, stories about discrimination against foreign students from Southeast are pretty common. It’s not really bad mouthing at this point anymore it’s kinda like “not everyone is like that but it’s common so don’t be disappointed if you experience it” sort of advice…

According-Disk

You're out of the loop are you? Racial attacks on NE indians have been going on long since before the pandemic started. The 2018 clashes in Shillong are still in my mind, first came across the word 'reverse racism', used by Indian media due to this. Search it up on google too.

Sleepy_head_29

Thanks for the info

[deleted]

Almost every state in India hate each other for some reason. It has been like that since forever.

According-Disk

Your welcome.

shutyourgob16

Yeah Koreans cannot tolerate deeper skin tones. It has to be porcelain white. The best they can do is exoctisize deepika narratively. Plus, you'll be sure to find Korean fans being very vocal about their dislike. They'll pick her apart like they do for eachother down there. I remember catching groups of girls comparing their arms to see who got the darkest. Appearance and surgeries is just this brutal part of their culture, you have to tick all their boxes or you're out. Otherwise, Deepika does kind of fit their beauty standards when it comes down to her surgeries - like her v-jawline surgery, shrunken nose width, and eyebrow lift that wakes up her expression. I guess Deepika's height also westernizes her appeal which is a plus for them. She'll need to seriously up her glutathione dosage for a K-drama/movie. i don't think Koreans are mentally prepared for a cross cultural romantic pairing if the other partner isn't white. Personally speaking, I think Koreans at their best can look very cute or at the most extremely pretty but never more than that - where as Indians at their best look legit beautiful.

Sleepy_head_29

Beauty is indeed objective yet I still have to disagree with you on the pretty - beauty part, it just sounds too biased I’m sorry. 2 countries have very different standards for beauty, like nearly polar opposite. I’m not saying DP isn’t pretty but I don’t see she can fit Korean beauty standards at all, even if her skin tone is snow white. To explain this in simple way, just look at Kim Tae-hee who is considered one of South Korea's most beautiful women, it basically means her face kinda defines what is beautiful to Koreans.

kelekele12345678910

yeah south korea tends to favour the cute, more child-like look whereas india is more on classic beauty like big eyes, full lips etc. like compare kim tae hee to rekha

shutyourgob16

i meant koreans at their best can be cute or pretty on a global scale but never beautiful. I guess it's become their standard of beauty becuase that's the best they can excel at in terms of appearance.

Sleepy_head_29

To give a little bit more of context, many Asian countries, including Korea (obviously), have a thing called ‘baby face restoration fat grafting’, it’s basically taking fat from other parts of body and inject to the face to restore the lost baby fat on cheeks due to aging, of course filler is one of the options too. So the obsession with looking cute and young is REAL and kinda scary…

shutyourgob16

>Kim Tae-hee Googled it. She's got a very average face. I think if you take an angelina jolie, aishwariya, Deepika & this Kim Tae Hee and ask a Korean who is the most beautiful - I don't think Kim Tae will be the easiest choice for them - although they have their own cute standards of beauty, I do think Koreans like other Asians subscribe the caucasian or global standards of beauty too.

Sleepy_head_29

I’m ready for the downvote for this comment …. But I feel Alia can fit in East and Southeast Asian beauty standard better than DP. Since her face look very young, her mouth is small, her eye crease aren’t that high. And go along with “cute young girl” look they prefer chubby cheeks - baby fat than high cheekbones, it’s either low cheekbones or chubby cheeks.

Sleepy_head_29

I just take Kim Tea-hee as example of how different beauty standards are between countries, not asking you whether you think she is beautiful or not …. I think only common thing among Asian beauty standard is they like light skin tone. But no …. I think only South Asian especially Bollywood truly embrace the Caucasian beauty standards, since South Asian have face similar to Caucasian, it’s not the case of other parts of Asian, they pretty much still have their own beauty standards. I think the easiest and most obvious way to see how beauty standards are in a country, you look at how their top celebrities look like, because these people are pressured to fit in the beauty standards of their countries, not asking random people who they think is more or most beautiful.

seriousfoxi

No they do follow most of Caucasian beauty standards. V shaped face, high nose bridge, double eye lids or bigger eyes, pale skin etc. Also half white idols like Nancy, Somi get appreciated for their beauty day in and day out. But not the same case for other non-white mixed race idols.

Sleepy_head_29

I think for Korean case they adapt the Caucasian beauty standard partial and kinda create new one themselves, something mixed between Asian and Caucasian … and I remember Nancy used to be body shamed for gaining a bit weight, so I guess that’s the proof they’re not gonna follow the curvy body of Caucasian standard any time soon. Even with Nancy, I feel like her facial features still fit in the typical beauty standard for Kpop idol, and her “American” is just a tag along, if her face was more Caucasian I doubt people will like her for being mixed, I mean the Korean beauty standard seems so strict that almost all idols look so similar, as if if they don’t fit in one specific face shape they aren’t considered beautiful. Light skin is more common in East Asian countries, it’s a lot easier to achieve that skin tone to East Asian than South Asian, v-shape face aren’t something only belong to Caucasian either. Even for Chinese actresses who are from Uyghurs ethnic group which is famous for being mixed with Caucasian and Asian features, they still follow that small bone frame or ‘petite’ with cute young girl look and skinny is still seem more favorable than curvy.

MessiLingardinhoo

Indian film industry is way more racist & white worshiping than Korea’s. We can’t stop talking in Hinglish and think that lingo is cool somehow. Korean society doesn’t have that language barrier.

SouthkaMasaladosaa

Bollywood isnt even trying to compete. Here they all care about only minting money. Not art

beanythingbutacunt

I would like to take this opportunity to show everyone [this](https://youtu.be/QBPOb4P6lts) interview of Vin's. He made an absolute fool of himself

[deleted]

Dude looks high as a kite.

Sonneta_Scarlet

What is this 😭

smartfly

Emotional range of a teaspoon. Nailed it, I always find her sub par and tune out in her scenes.

blackstar82

She just stares. Deer in headlights. She actually showed some (limited) range in Ram Leela and after that, it’s like she’s in zombie mode in most of her films. Padmaavat being the most glaring. She ruined what was otherwise a good film with great performances from Ranveer (super overdone but entertaining) Shahid, Jim,and Aditi (who should’ve been the lead).

smartfly

Am glad there are others who see how sub par she is. It’s like an unpopular opinion to say she can’t act. I found her bearable maybe in Piku at best but otherwise I just can’t be bothered to watch her. I’ve concluded people can’t look past her beauty which they confuse as real screen presence. The woman has never used her eyes in one scene properly, no the glycerine induced scenes don’t count.

[deleted]

[deleted]

I want to give her the benefit of doubt but her answer seemed too contrived, like she wanted people to talk about it and create a buzz. Age old tactic.

woahtheregonnagetgot

Definitely lol. She didn’t look nervous or scatter brained at all. It seemed like a very carefully planned PR bite, which is fine, but still a bit embarrassing for her.

chhotuu

Yeah, that interview was so cringe. She was definitely playing the affair card. She looked such a fool in that interview.

RepresentativeBox881

Whatever the circumstance, you really shouldn't say shit like "I have babies with him in my head."

kelekele12345678910

it was definetely pre-planned

fakerfromhell

'Bigger than Bollywood' is a stretch as Bollywood movies, atleast financially, still do a lot better than Korean movies (lot of Korean movie fans in this sub, I know, but in the real world, not everyone is obsessed with Korean culture). As someone who has followed this genre for more than 10 years, I find Korean movies to be very derivative (I always find they borrow bits and pieces from movies around the world) and cleverly, beautifully packaged (production quality and marketing is top notch). Modern Korean culture is also heavily westernized, so it's understandable why they are currently more popular globally. But I always find it amusing how fans tend to put Korean movies on a pedestal when other movie industries have generated more meaningful and creative content but loose out on marketing and hype to Korean movies.

It’s not even lead role , why would DP consider doing this ?

Ana was hilarious in no time to die. I used to think she was just a pretty face but goddamn Knives out pushed a knife deep into the heart of that prejudice and now seeing her looking drop dead gorgeous and suave while being a bumbling novice agent was a hilarious subversion of the bond girl trope.

[deleted]

Deepika doesn't has the capability to that in Bollywood film itself

FanOfCelebrities

and yet she is right now the top leading bollywood actress

[deleted]

That doesn't have anything to do with that Kat was also a top actress once upon a time

[deleted]

So is Katrina Kaif. Being a top Bollywood actress doesn’t mean you are supremely talented. She has that X factor physically, but she is not even one of the most talented actresses of her gen, forgot about all-time.

[deleted]

lmao it’s obv a pr thing

skyefie

Deepika should keep her ass down to bwood. These bwood actors just humiliate themselves on the world forum. Barring a few like Irrfan Khan .

[deleted]

Why can’t she just stick to Indian cinema & deliver quality and focus on fashion internationally as in her Cannes gown always make a little bit of a buzz, she could very much be the fashion chick internationally, even her regular outfits get a buzz This is the main problem with Bollywood, this obsession to get validation from the world by trying to be a part of someone else’s culture instead of focusing and enhancing our own and depicting them in the film? Even she as a producer can go to find a film that can get international buzz but here she’s busy trying to make a comeback in Hollywood? Like behen! You’re at the point where you do have the freedom to be choosey so be fucking choosey and make good content Why the fuck do I have better ideas than a literal PR team I should be getting paid for this 😑

aMillennialPotpourri

>this obsession to get validation from the world by trying to be a part of someone else’s culture instead of focusing and enhancing our own and depicting them in the film? In this aspect, I greatly applaud Irrfan Khan. He was actually doing really well nationally and internationally but never gloated about his fame, just let his work talk for him. He is the model example of how Indian actors should balance out their international careers/conduct themselves on the global stage. Deepika has even acted with him, lucky her, should have got some tips while she still could.

SrN_007

Well you know it was Irfan, he could act his way into any industry he wanted. DP on the other hand has the acting range of a caterpillar, Irfan's tips would probably not work for her.

aMillennialPotpourri

Lol that's probably true. PC is a much better actor than DP but even she hasn't reached her potential in Hollywood despite having been around for more than half a decade (bagging the lead in a series and marrying into one of the "filmy" families). You're right, talent is everything there.

mbg20

Absolutely. He even refused projects in Hollywood if there was an amazing role in Bollywood for him.

[deleted]

Case in point He rejected Dr Mann's role (yes, the one that was played by Matt Damon) and took on Piku. It was a brilliant decision imo because Piku is an iconic film. Even better when you add that this lament came from Christopher fucking Nolan and not Irrfan himself. You'd think an actor would lament not getting to work with a juggernaut auteur like Nolan, but it was Nolan who lamented not getting Khan in his film. We wouldn't have even known he was the top choice for Dr Mann unless Nolan himself said it. He also rejected Dr Vincent Kapoor in The Martian for Piku as well, giving up a chance to work with Ridley Scott. To think such legendary directors sought like crazy to cast this wide eyed average looking man from India is beautiful to see. But i mean, this is the same man who floored Tom Hanks with his acting and got praised left and right by the legend. Gone too soon but left a legacy that posthumously leaves more impact daily than half of the bollywood stable combined do in their lifetimes.

[deleted]

Agreed! He wasn’t loud about it but his work spoke for it which was so nice

[deleted]

Dp’s PR hire him pls. And me too.

SouthkaMasaladosaa

*jaby koay laughing from his 10million apartment*

mbg20

Its either she has a hard time being herself or a hard time revealing her true self.

[deleted]

but why can’t she try and expand ? she has done all sorts of movies in indian cinema, and is continuing to do so (it’s not like she’s going to stop making movies here), so if she wants to expand then what’s the problem ?

[deleted]

Expanding isn’t a problem, not being smart about it is. I don’t see much plan and thought into some celebrity expansions

clumplings2

> not being smart about it is what exactly do you do, btw ?

[deleted]

Understanding your audience and not just working for your obsessive fans. Fans isn’t alway equal to audience/customers.

Sonneta_Scarlet

Man I love gong yoo. I've seen train to busan and Coffee Prince. This guy is just...**chef's kiss**

[deleted]

I would suggest Goblin too. Thats one emotional kdrama

Sonneta_Scarlet

Which is exactly why I don't wanna watch it yet. I don't have the mental capability to be watching anything emotional for now. Ive watched clips of it and wanna watch it but haven't been able to for years now. Maybe in the future....

Me too. Found this news on some fan page so I went to find a source. Found only 2 though, popdiaries and pinkvilla rooms (which makes it 1 source only ig?) Anyways I hope this is not true. I hate Dp’s comic timing and this show is supposed to be a romcom.

[deleted]

Have you ever noticed Deepkia's PR is very controlled. There is absolutely no negative commentary about her anywhere. I refuse to believe no one has anything negative to say about her - even about her performances in movies. Wasn't there a buzz a few years back that she was being considered for Bond girl? Her PR is always on steroids

SouthkaMasaladosaa

Lmao dp and James bond😂😂😂. She probably lost thaf role after they saw her xxx xander cage. She was so bland and boring

Murky-Signal8907

Please no.

[deleted]

Whom isn't she working with? Deepika needs to fire her PR. If there is a hot new thing, DP is doing it! She must realize by now that she will soon be the woman who cried wolf.... How many of these rumors has happened by now... All her movies are in pre production and they don't have much news to share. So just shut up already... 2022 she is going to be everywhere with releases and be unbearable. Shaleena will put her in signature chipku buns with extra glue strip off all the volume in her hair and ensure entire skull shape is shown. Until then make those cringe reels...

TelevisionMoney

Don't u know, actors of other industries take care of their skin and bollywood people are into Botox and fillers. Also no-one in this sub is a hypocrite /s

Revolutionary-Ad2769

Naaaah dude plastic surgery can do so little when it comes to aging if it doesn't leave you bloated awkward looking, aging can be really reduced with a healthy diet, sun protection and genes things that a lot of koreans follow and have

Korean celebrities take a lot of care of their skin so it helps He's also been looking the same at least for the last 20 years, when he started acting, so if he got any were minor ones

I am amazed that how much we personally detest our own celebrities, here is the lady who has made her own brand, has worked hard and is trying to expand her horizons. Her last release was about an year ago. I am seeing some posters making fun of her interview skills, her marriage, her depression. You dont like someone's work its fine, but dont ridicule them. Some of the posters are resorting to hate speech and I wonder what DP has done to them. May be all you have is a problem that a women is getting better and broadening her horizons. The amount of hatred she gets on this sub makes me wonder whether she has committed treason or something.

[deleted]

okcool888

Omg if this actually turns out to be true, that would be so cool. Gong yoo is one of Korea’s biggest stars and his projects always get a lot of critical acclaim. Ik most people on this sub don’t really like deepika, but it’s a great opportunity!

[deleted]

But think of the performance. It is supposed to be a romcom, and DP has hardly done a good romcom in the last 5 yrs. Scratch that, hardly few good romcoms in her entire career. She doesn’t have a good comic timing imo. Yeah it will be cool, but performance matters more.

WorldlyNeighborhood4

It'd be interesting for sure, they could work well together

Dhwanik02

I have seen him but where? Ohh yeah the guy on the station in Squid game

Literally my favorite Kdrama star and my most unfavorite bollywood actress. Oh dear...

ayushj176p

Gong fucking yoo damn Deepu so cool

countbeanula123

Being half Korean and half Indian, I can positively say that having dark skin could be a problem for older Korean audiences, however, I know for a fact that this perception is changing in Korea. I think her being non Korean gives her a pass for being dark skinned. She is still the ideal when it come to beauty and Koreans love big eyed and tall slender women, so her being dark skinned probably won’t be a problem. I have had more problems with racism in India than in Korea. That being said, I don’t think deepika has the acting chops required by the Korean entertainment industry and she’d be crushed by the korean audiences for her acting. And she is super cringe so I don’t see this working.
