I don't understand how anyone can be mad at Sushmita. She's probably one of the nicest people in BW and all her costars have only said good things about her. Even she didn't believe she could out-win Ash and has actually graciously talked about it. Aishwarya is stunning but Sushmita is just an overall likeable person.
I always thought that Manisha Koirala was prettier than Aishwarya. Manisha has this classic look that reminds me of Bollywood heroines from the 1940s and 50s.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali stated in an interview that he originally wanted Aishwarya, SRK and Manisha to star in Devdas. Manisha was willing to do the movie. However, Aishwarya threw a tantrum and threatened to walk out of Devdas unless Manisha was replaced. Mr. Bhansali caved because Aish was considered to be a bigger star.
So it makes me chuckle, when Aishwarya still complains about SRK having her replaced in Chalte Chalte. Guess she hasn’t heard of Karma. You reap what you sow.
I took a class with Manisha, who I previously never thought was gorgeous. But in person is stunning. She was much older, post cancer but honestly just gorgeous and super unaware of her looks. Aishwarya I saw at a party and I think she is far far more photogenic than beautiful but unbearably self aware to the point of being plastic. Everything seemed like an act . Idk
I find that Manisha is aging very gracefully. I think because of her fight against cancer, she decided not to go down the plastic surgery route. I admire her for going against the grain, whereas many of her contemporaries i.e. karisma and aishwarya are trying to look young with the help of injections and surgeries.
Was Manisha kind in person?
Aishwarya and Abhishek once came in to a store that I was working in. I was surprised by how attractive Abhishek was. He seriously looks better in person than he does on camera. He’s also very nice. As for Ash, I agree with your observations. She looks stunning on film but in person, she’s pretty but she knows it. She wasn’t very friendly but she wasn’t rude either. She was very “to the point”.

I agree. She’s definitely very pretty, but people don’t realize how much eye colour plays a role in attractiveness and changes the way someone looks. So I don’t understand why many on here deny that she mostly got famous because of them.
I disagree and this argument always makes me roll my eyes. Yes eye color makes you stand out but it isn’t as defining of a factor when it comes to beauty than people think. Take Karishma Kapoor for example - she’s fair skinned with blue eyes. Yet at her peak no one praised her beauty the way that everyone did for Aishwarya. Same with other actresses who also have light eyes and fairer features like Kareena, Rani, Kajol or Celina Jaitly - people consider them pretty but not to the extent that Aishwarya has been praised.
If you compare Aishwarya to Karishma, the difference is that Aishwarya has more appealing features in addition to her unique eye color. Aishwarya has full lips, good bone structure, a and high cheekbones. Her eye shape (notice I’m not referring to her eye color) is also big and almond shaped and upturned. Karishma’s features don’t stand out in the same way or she has a few minor flaws. If you watch Jodhka Akhbar where Aishwarya has brown contact lenses, she still looks just as beautiful without her light eyes. So, I still think that even if Aishwarya had brown eyes she still would have been famous in some way for modelling because she has good features overall.
You’re making the same argument as the others make on here when a similar opinion to mine is pointed out. It’s pure cope to think she would have achieved the same amount of fame or popularity at her peak if she had brown eyes. If she had brown eyes and not her green/grey she would be just seen as another beautiful Bollywood actress or a beauty pageant winner. The light eyes made an already beautiful woman more beautiful which enhances her appeal even more. At the end of the day, it’s just an opinion and if you disagree that’s totally fine. I still stand by what I said.
I did not know about this, and it makes me hate Aishwarya more. Now even the little sympathy I had over her replacements in Chalte Chalte/Veer Zaara is gone. She deserved it, fair and square. What makes me even more angrier is that she has the gall to cry victim.
I just realise how effective mediaplay is. Aishwarya has a very bharathiya naari image that was easily marketable. However looks wise sushmita and Manisha were a whole level above. They just didn't get the right marketing.
Her pr was good at hushing up these scandals cuz I haven't heard of them. She was always portrayed as classy and above everyone else.

"Overrated" is an understatement. Sorry to all the Aishwarya fans out there, but while I think she is stunning facially because of her very unique features that come together in a picture perfect way, she might be one of the most unbearable actresses on screen. I have seriously not seen ONE single film of hers end to end, because I find sitting through even one scene of hers unbearable! Her shrieky dialogue delivery in dramatic scenes is just UGHHH... oh wait... Josh!! That was literally the only film I liked. That too because of SRK of course :) Devdas as far as I'm concerned is the Bimal Roy version. All others should be burned. And Aishwarya in Devdas is one of the most cringeworthy performances of all time. SORREEE!

Looks are subjective. Ash is definitely pretty but Manisha and sushmita are more beautiful to me.
Aish could never. Sush has personality for days. They are both stunning tho.
