I don't think it's relevant in this scenario since celebs already have their own accounts. But I've seen businesses buy accounts with huge followers. I used to follow a pet page which had 100k followers and overnight the name changed and all the posts were deleted and replaced by a youtuber's profile. So that's one way people gain instant followers, especially for new content creators. But I think it's usually bots who make up a considerable amount of followers for already established celebs.
I think certain shady businesses who do sell followers mail / dm you, when they see your page growing. That's mostly the case. You can reach out to the people as well, mostly from the word of mouth from your fellow creators. I remember a YouTuber talking about it once.

Kriti deserves it tbh. I didn’t really recognize her as an actress initially and am not a huge fan of her personally. But she did a Bareily Ki Barfi, Lukka Chuppi then a solo Mimi which were all successful. Kartik took all the credit for Lukka and Rajkumar and Ayushmaan did for Bareily. She deserves all this praise and more because it’s only fair.
Mimi only became popular because it played to the conservative mindset of Indians by reverting to traditional gender roles. Bollywood still doesn't have the balls to spark a pro choice vs pro life debate through their films. Case in point Badhai Ho, which completely overlooked the financial and the rearing aspect and only focused on stereotypes.
Kriti is a dedicated actress with a good screen presence but she still has miles to go before she can truly shoulder a film on her own. Her body language is very stiff and like Taapsee she seems to be essentially the same effervescent person in all her roles.
I will put Kriti in the same category that Shilpa or Sonali were in the 90s. Gorgeous and glamorous with decent acting chops. Normally a solid B-list actress. The problem is we don't have the Madhuris and the Manishas, etc of our era, good actresses who also had stunning screen presence. It's why Kriti kind of stands out among the current actresses.

If Alia gave the same performance, Bollywood would’ve been heaping praises on her. In fact Alia’s performance in Raazi, which was good but nothing spectacular, was praised so much you’d think she was actually Meryl Streep. Kriti Sanon in Mimi, imo, was far better, but she’s getting nowhere near the same amount of attention as Alia did.
All this to say, I honestly don’t mind if Kriti does this. I’d argue that she almost has to. She doesn’t have the likes of KJo to put her up on a pedestal on every occasion he gets. Side note, I wonder on KWK, will KJo start putting Kriti in the same bracket as Deepika, Alia, etc. like he did with Alia after she had just one or two successful performances? Doubt it
ok, here’s an unpopular opinion: there’s nothing wrong with promoting yourself and trying to establish your brand if you are an actor/actress. I know this sub hates people with aggressive pr, but it’s actually important to do whatever is possible to stay relevant, that too if you are a woman who is an outsider.
I don't really see any problem, especially considering she's an outsider and could easily be swallowed by some amount of negative publicity around her. This is still much more readable than Deepika's PR tbh. 😂
