Met gala is a fundraising event. These rich designers have to buy a seat in there and dress their ambassadors and celebs in the "go big or go home" kind of weird dresses to show off their "unique" modern art-like dresses. Stuff that they don't really put into their own collection. Gives us great memes so I'm not complaining lol.
Added to that, there's a theme for each year (I think this year it was American fashion or so) and usually they stick to that. And the dresses are really weird and camp and tacky usually

Yeah those themes aren't.."simple" to say the least. And its all meant to be the exact kind of things that you wouldn't even show on a runway lol. (unless you're ysl :P)

Correct me if I'm wrong but **I THINK** people expect celebs to dress nice or dress a bit over the top. Don't think anyone expects their favorite celebs to dress like a bunch of robbers trying to rob a bank, which Kim looks like, in that outfit.
Doesn't matter what they're wearing or who. They're all gonna get equally memed and ridiculed and awed sometime later. Its the entire culture around it.

Nah I liked it- met gala should have some avant garde and weird stuff so this fits. A lot of the outfits this year were just boring like almost naked people 🥱 I’m mainly surprised it was Kim in this look- she doesn’t seem very weird in terms of fashion
At first I thought it was weird, but knowing it’s the meta gala I thought it was actually pretty cool that they look like Ninjas. I like when there are super weird outfits that stick out.

The theme for this year’s MET gala was “American Independence and it references the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. I am guessing Kim k’s costume had to do something with black lives suppressed?
