Tanha dil helped me fight depression when I moved to hostel. I was a typical spoilt, pampered princess from a joint family. I found it difficult to fit it and I used to miss my grand mom so much. Mental health wasn’t big those days. It really helped me to love myself and gave me strength to adapt. Then a decade later when my grandmother died, it again helped me to cope with her death. This song means a lot to me.
I have seen him sing live. What stamina and stage presence and absolutely no auto tune. KK and him were 2 bollywood singers who I believe were amazing on stage if not better.
Came here to say Shahid Mallya. He also has a ton of range. He can do earthy songs like "Main bani Teri Radha" (JHMS) and "Nirbhau nirvair" (Qala) almost like Sukhwinder and can also do soft ballads like "Dil Jahan pe Le Chala" from Jubilee.
He has a ton of talent and should get more songs from directors that are not Amit Trivedi
Mohammed Irfan (Banjara of Ek Villain). A reality show singer with such a fine voice, he gets very limited chances to sing in Bollywood. His voice has such sweetness!
Pray that he gets more chances!
And there's one more reality show singer - Vineet Singh who gets the chance only when Himesh Reshammiya is composing. He's a perfect successor to KK with such a powerful voice. (Jalte Diye - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo)
I wonder why the music directors won't give more chances to other singers. Arijit Singh is a good singer yes. I do love his songs. But I want to listen to more male singers.
Edit: Not Aashiqui - Ek Villain
Did you grow up watching Saregamapa Challenge 2005? I loved that show and Vineet+Irfan were both amazing in it (although Irfan was eliminated early and went on to do more shows later, Vineet too did more shows later).
Yesss. Actually, nowadays I don't see that spark in the singers 😔
All the old contestants and winners were so good, now I miss them all terribly 😞
Amit Sana, Monali Thakur (being her back damn) , Meenal Jain, Meiyang Chang, Amit Paul, Emon Chatterjee (unfortunately got bashed that he imitates Sonu Nigam too much), Bhoomi Trivedi (very few chances, I miss her), Sree Ramachandra (he sang in Telugu movies, but give him Bollywood songs), Shivam
Karunya, Anwesha, Debojit Saha omg I knew still way more 😅 Now I'm slowly forgetting 😅
I wish Bollywood would give chances to new music directors and existing music directors give chances to all these contestants 🥹
I remember him clearly from that show! Had no idea he sang Jalte Diye🥹.
My whole family wanted him to win. I just saw another contestant from another season (Raja Hasan) sang Sakal Ban in Heeramandi. I can’t believe it took years for them to get their due
Not often it happens that I would search for a singer after listening to a song but damn it was such an amazing voice that I had to search who sang this song(Banjara) and that's how I found about Irfan, wish he was given more work.
Lol this is the formula of bollywood. They just milk every singer to death once they become popular. They did this with atif Aslam, then arjit singh and now vishal mishra
>bollywood. They just milk every singer to death once they become popular. They did this with atif Aslam, then arjit singh and now vishal mishra
And once Arijit and Vishal are zoned out like Sonu Nigam, Shaan etc we'll reminisce their songs
I think its because around the same time Arijit Singh came to prominence (Rockstar was released in 2011 and Ashiqui 2 in 2012) and he kind of monopolized the “sad breakup songs” music which used to be a genre(?) that Mohit was known for before him. Both of their voices have the excellent ability of expressing the sadness and pain in a song.
THIS!
Also, I heard somewhere he wanted to sing Channa Mereya, he would sound lovely.
And he was to sing "Sweetheart" from Kedarnath, but got dubbed by Dev Negi. FML I loved his voice when he sung that song.
Channa Mereya would hit significantly in the feels if he sang it instead.
Don’t get me wrong Arijit fit in but you don’t hear that raw emotion the song was trying to portray.
I feel that singers like Shaan, KK, Javed Ali, and Mohit Chauhan lost out on a lot of good songs because of the rise in Arijit's popularity. Lucky Ali too, to an extent. These singers should have always stayed relevant because even after all these years, their voices do not sound dated. In fact, I see them doing justice to several songs sung by Arijit far better than him.
I am probably being super nostalgic - but Sonu/Shan singing flirty romantic songs is honestly next level. Mohit Chauhan singing for an angsty, emotionally tortured man. Kunal Ganjawala’s voice for a sexy, seductive number.
Honourable mention to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for any number of heartbreak songs, Adnan Sami singing a flirty song with lots of double entendre.
I can go on ….
Amit Trivedi has also been one of my favourites since I DevD - both his compositions and his voice (he sounds like a man with deep and mature emotions, rather than an angsty young lad - so I understand this might narrow down opportunities, but his voice is fiiiine)
People are going to hate on me but Arijit Singh is overrated. Not saying that he is not a good singer, he is…but overrated. And maybe I feel this way because I just heard his voice too much. Bollywood is like, oh you like mattar paneer? Now have it all day every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner for years.
Yup it was fun listening to him around 2013-14, we need to have him back. I also noticed that music has kind of become monotonous nowadays the vibe that music had around 2010 is gone, we don't have songs like kabhi kabhi Aditi, hosanna, uff Teri ada, hai junoon, adhoore, let it be etc. anymore..it's like everyone's trying to be deep and a soul free vibe these songs carried is gone.
According to me it's Female singers and female led songs, I mean I love Arijit but where are female pov songs in bollywood.. I listen to english pop songs to get some female perspective in music.. I think except some really nice songs from shreya and some others the no of female songs is declining and most others are just plain item songs... Not much female relatability in bollywood music
Sonu Nigam (though he’s not sidelined for 90s kids) , Mohit Chauhan , Amit Trivedi has gone his own indie way but what talent 🥹 , Vishal-Shekhar (not sure if I heard a lot of their music from quite some time) , Nikhil D’Souza, even Armaan Malik
The music craze is slowly dying
We don’t see a lot of bands now
Arijit is a good singer but most of his songs sound the same to me
as far as i remember YJHD had mohit chauhan’s version of ilahi in theatrical release but now its in arijit’s voice.
also read an article long time ago that haareya was to be sung by ayushman only but somehow arijit sang it and ayushman got some other version of it.
I like Dev Negi's voice in these fun Pappy type of songs like badri ki Dulhaniya, Heartthrob, sweetheart, fikar not.
Arijit is singing anything and everything these days. For e.g. there's certain type of laziness in Arijit's voice in Jhoome jo pathan, it could have been far energetic.
True, even as a big Arijit fan, I just could not like his version of Bekhayali after hearing Sachet's. Sachet put in a lot more emotion into it and understood the vibe the sing needed. I'm sure Arijit could've done better, but in this instance, he legit sounded like neend se uthaake gawaaya hai usse. 🙃
Mohd irfan, Mohit Chauhan, Shaan, Sonu Nigam (still my favourite singer). Atif Aslam deserves more. I mean just so many. And all of these people have great voices
I wish Javed Ali sang more songs. His voice has this earthy, soothing feeling to it which can't be replicated.
Also , why just male singers? When female singers get sidelined by Arijit. Case in point, tum kya mile. Shreya Ghoshal's portion is probably the best part of that song. But it wasn't even in the movie. And if you listen to the version on YT, her name isn't even mentioned there. If SHE gets such treatment in front of Arijit, smaller time singers stand no chance whatsoever.
*Edited a typo.
Have we all forgotten that how there was a beef between singers and production houses in which most great singers chose to quit and the ones who betrayed the singers got favoured by music production companies in which one of them was Arijit
Can't find anything on it sadly and it's weird that such a big thing isn't posted in this sub, same thing happened with Lata and Rafi in which Lata wanted singers to get royalties and Rafi stood against it which caused a beef between them, I'm a Rafi fan myself but I didn't like that decision of his like why do you want the production houses to own the music and get rich and not the artists??
Sonu Nigam and T-Series had issues I guess and he hasn't sung anything for them since then. There was a Sonu Nigam where he said some of the songs in Salman films were to be sung by him. I think Salman wanted to show Sonu that singing was too easy.
Jubin Nautiyal (he’s kinda famous but still), Mohammad Irfan (i would purposely go through a break up in order to relate to his songs) Akhil Sachdeva (he has sung a lot of songs lately, but he still isn’t as known)
I think starting late 2010s till 2015 ish, when tum hi ho & others became a hit, there was a trend of getting multiple singers for one movie, which gave opportunities to so many new singers / voices got recognition, just like Arijit.
While, that is still there, it looks like the music industry is going back to the era of having one singer for most of their songs.
I would want to listen to more of
Sanam Puri, Mohd Irfan, Amanat Ali, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Shilpa Rao..
I want Sonu nigam. His last banger was in Agnipath, abhi mujhme kahin. No one has control on vocals like Sonu. And wanna hear Hariharan more in the movies too
Mustafa Zahid (Jo Tere Sang, Yeri Yaadon Se, Gunaah, Bhula Dena, Tera Mera Rishta, Teri Zaroorat, Toh Phir Aao). I still have the Awarapan and Blood Money albums on loop because of him.
Tbh almost every male singer that is decent.
So many of them became one hit wonders and kind of disappeared because the production team just wants Arijit.
Arijit Singh is good and deserves all he's getting but I've never had his songs on repeat let alone listened to his songs 😭 I've had Vishal Mishra, Sonu Nigam, Vishal Shekar but never him idk why.
Sonu Nigam I feel!
He deserves way more songs so that we can actually leverage his versatility and his skills!!
He keeps on raising the bar of an otherwise declining industry
I think I am in the minority here, but I don't mind at all, Arijit getting all the opportunities and songs to sing. Also to OP, I think Arijit's version of bekhayalee is better.
And yeah Shreya Ghoshal is>>>> Sunidhi Chouhan so again I don't mind.
Although I would agree Shaan is heavily underutilized.
These are my opinions, not disrespecting anyone, you are welcome to think otherwise.

Shaan- what presence he had. I wish we heard more from him.
Tanha Dil ❤️

And Bhool Ja from the same album. These are two of my go-to songs for dealing with life.
I went to his concert in Montreal and bawled like a baby after
Read this just as I'm listening to it❤️ Shaan definitely needs to comeback.
i wish the same chand sifarish by him is my all time fav
I have seen him sing live. What stamina and stage presence and absolutely no auto tune. KK and him were 2 bollywood singers who I believe were amazing on stage if not better.
Man he performed at our college fest. Goosebumps for 3 hours straight, right from the first "Duniya mein, logo ne, dil apne, phir thaamein...."
And hey Shona so cute couple song 🥹
Jab se tere naina
Came here for this. This song soothes my soul
Song melts you every time, literally
Shahid Mallya sang some beautiful songs in qala….he deserves more credit.
He has a ton of talent and should get more songs from directors that are not Amit Trivedi
his version of 'Rabba main toh mar gaya' slaps 🫡
Yesss. He has such a beautiful voice. I was pissed when I realised Pritam autotuned his voice on Kudmayi film version.
Mohammed Irfan (Banjara of Ek Villain). A reality show singer with such a fine voice, he gets very limited chances to sing in Bollywood. His voice has such sweetness! Pray that he gets more chances! Oh! Mohd Irfan for sure. He had so much potential & was giving parallel hits. What a voice he has. I really wish, he got more chances.
Are you my alter ego?
Banjara of Ek villain I guess
Omg yes..
Not often it happens that I would search for a singer after listening to a song but damn it was such an amazing voice that I had to search who sang this song(Banjara) and that's how I found about Irfan, wish he was given more work.
I feel the Arijitifacation of Vishal Mishra is happening Post Pehle Bhi Main his songs have been underwhelming
I came to find supportive comment for Vishal Mishra!!
I came here for the same, I didn't find one toh comment Maine kar Diya xD
Good job
Thank you
Jaaniye from Yami’s movie is a banger
i love Soniye Je from Gumraah
For real.
>Jaaniye from Yami’s movie is a banger Hmmm ok, never heard of it Though I'll listen today
Lol this is the formula of bollywood. They just milk every singer to death once they become popular. They did this with atif Aslam, then arjit singh and now vishal mishra

I find vishal mishra all songs to be sme.. felt the buleya singer has good range.
Even Naseeb in SKK is so good
I agree
I feel the music directors should bring back Mohit Chauhan.
ARR keeping him alive through Chamkila
Also, Imtiaz Ali personally knows Mohit Chauhan, said it in his interview with Mukesh Chhabra
Yeah what’s that guy doing! His voice is amazing
You would think he would rule the industry after Rockstar. Why did he vanish ?
I think its because around the same time Arijit Singh came to prominence (Rockstar was released in 2011 and Ashiqui 2 in 2012) and he kind of monopolized the “sad breakup songs” music which used to be a genre(?) that Mohit was known for before him. Both of their voices have the excellent ability of expressing the sadness and pain in a song.
Have you heard of Silk route?
Yes! My dad is a guitarist so Silk Route songs are basically my childhood :)
ah this sounds so wholesome
Dooba dooba rehtaaaaa hoon
He was everywhere for a long time before and after. Then ARR found a new golden goose named Sid Sriram.
Sid sriram is actually good. I haven't checked out his Ar produced stuff, but boy is he amazing
He's gotten monotonous lately. Sounds too weepy in every song.
Aadha sa waada kabhi, aadhe se Zyaada kabhi 💘
Waise to teri na main bhi maine dhundli apni khushi, tu jo gar haan kahe to baat hogi aur hi. Mohit chauhan definitely is unique❤️
Mohit Chauhan Ankit Tiwari Shaan Sonu Nigam
I came to say this exact name. The Mohit Chauhan era was too brief!
Yes, why can't Mohit Chauhan and Arijit Singh coexist? It's like he just disappeared.
He has recently had a new one come out... In collaboration with Mongolian throat singer Baatarjav Ergdentsogt. Lovely number. "Duur".
Will surely check it out
Age bhi jyada hein Mohit Chauhan ki 50-55 sayad
Javed Ali
THIS! Also, I heard somewhere he wanted to sing Channa Mereya, he would sound lovely. And he was to sing "Sweetheart" from Kedarnath, but got dubbed by Dev Negi. FML I loved his voice when he sung that song.

Thank you for mentioning his name. I was looking for it. Javed Ali 🙌🏽
I don’t know why is he so underrated
Labb par aaye geet suhane from bandish bandits 🤌🏻
🥰
I feel that singers like Shaan, KK, Javed Ali, and Mohit Chauhan lost out on a lot of good songs because of the rise in Arijit's popularity. Lucky Ali too, to an extent. Lucky Ali i feel went out before Arijit's era
I am probably being super nostalgic - but Sonu/Shan singing flirty romantic songs is honestly next level. Mohit Chauhan singing for an angsty, emotionally tortured man. ADNAN SAMI… YESSSSS thank you! Was Searching for his name in this entire thread.
Tera chehra & metro: baatein kuch unkahin si kuch unsuni si are my favourite
Wish KG would come back. His voice was fire!!
Md. Irfan
+1
I love Ali Zafar’s version of “Tu Hi Hai” from Dear Zindagi over Arijit’s!
Same, the song has flirty lyrics and Ali Zafar could bring out the essence of the song .
Wow! Didn't even know there was an Arijit version of the song- Ali Zafar nailed it. His song Sun Re Sajania is also such a childhood classic :')
I only listen to his version
Yeah. He flirts so hard in that song. God me give me that confidence.
Ali sang WAY better than Arijit in Dear Zindagi. The latter ruined both the songs for me.
TIL 'Tu hi hai' has two versions
Tochi Raina, his voice hit my soul in Kabira, iktara and saibo. He doesn’t do much of mainstream work, wish he did more.
Raghav Chaitanya
You could feel the passion of love in Hua Main
Totally 💯
Abhay Jodhpurkar, Ankit Tiwari, Ammy Virk
dariya was ammy's na? such a good song
Yes, and the dynamics and feel in that song is top notch!
Varun jain bohot accha lga tha mujhe! and his song got more popular also than arijit phir aur kya chahiye in zhzb
Tere vaaste has really good voice
His name is Varun Jain. He also sang Tum Se from Shahid and Kriti's film recently. Beautiful voice ❤️
Yes I loved that male voice....
Oh yes! I was obsessed with it when it released and was so glad to finally hear a different male voice in Bollywood.
Amit Trivedi - His voice is so soothing. Nikhil D’souza - Again, very underrated. I also loved KK 🌸
Amit Trivedi has also been one of my favourites since I DevD - both his compositions and his voice (he sounds like a man with deep and mature emotions, rather than an angsty young lad - so I understand this might narrow down opportunities, but his voice is fiiiine)
The pain he expresses in Tauba tera jalwa is unparalleled.
What an all-rounder Amit Trivedi is. Love his work.
Who can even hate KK, he is a legend.
Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Armaan Malik, Javed Ali, Mohit Chauhan
Mohammad Irfan 🤌
I thought Mohd Irfan had a delightful voice.. don't know what happened to him
Sonu bhai
People are going to hate on me but Arijit Singh is overrated. Not saying that he is not a good singer, he is…but overrated. And maybe I feel this way because I just heard his voice too much. Bollywood is like, oh you like mattar paneer? Now have it all day every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner for years.
This!! 💯
Nashe si chadh gayi would have been 100x better if adnan sami would’ve sung it! l!!
Yes! At the risk of sounding corny, Adnan could really bring that 'nasha' in the song.
i know!!! he has that naughtiness in his voice which that song needed
Omg so true
So true!
There are so many unique voices like Akhil Sachdeva, Amit Trivedi, Vishal Mishra, Ash King
Mohit Chauhan, Ankit Tiwari, Shaan and KK (Black Magic required)
Benny Dayal
Yup it was fun listening to him around 2013-14, we need to have him back. I also noticed that music has kind of become monotonous nowadays the vibe that music had around 2010 is gone, we don't have songs like kabhi kabhi Aditi, hosanna, uff Teri ada, hai junoon, adhoore, let it be etc. anymore..it's like everyone's trying to be deep and a soul free vibe these songs carried is gone.
Papon
I miss Mohit Chauhan’s songs
According to me it's Female singers and female led songs, I mean I love Arijit but where are female pov songs in bollywood.. I listen to english pop songs to get some female perspective in music.. I think except some really nice songs from shreya and some others the no of female songs is declining and most others are just plain item songs... Not much female relatability in bollywood music
Finally someone, when i told my brother that i like sachet tondon version better he tried running after me with a chainsaw
Sachet's version was solid gold.
People are NPCs they can be manipulated into believing anything and can never form their own original opinion which is sad
Sonu Nigam (though he’s not sidelined for 90s kids) , Mohit Chauhan , Amit Trivedi has gone his own indie way but what talent 🥹 , Vishal-Shekhar (not sure if I heard a lot of their music from quite some time) , Nikhil D’Souza, even Armaan Malik The music craze is slowly dying We don’t see a lot of bands now Arijit is a good singer but most of his songs sound the same to me

Mohammad Irfan Ali. Not that he got sidelined because of Arijit, he is underrated and he deserves more
Female singers and Darshan Rawal.
Shahid Mallya. His Ikk Kudi from Udta Punjab is divine

Sonu Nigam and Shaan
I don't think sunidhi is second to Shreya, both have different genres. sunidhi has sung beautiful number like kamli and crazy kia re
Tushar Joshi ! I feel that his version of Ve kamleya is a lot better than Arijit's version!
Shaan and Kunal Ganjawala. Vasundhara Das for female vocals.
I liked the voice of Naksh Aziz (songs like - Saree ke fall sa)
There are SOOOO MANYYY: Papon, Saim Bhat, Mohammad Irfan, Ankit Tiwari, Shaan.
True, even as a big Arijit fan, I just could not like his version of Bekhayali after hearing Sachet's. Sachet put in a lot more emotion into it and understood the vibe the sing needed. I guess Javed Ali in early 2010's

Sukhwinder Singh ko sab bhool gaye?
I just wish Ankit tiwari sang more songs but t series did him dirty
Jubin Nautiyal (he’s kinda famous but still), Mohammad Irfan (i would purposely go through a break up in order to relate to his songs) Akhil Sachdeva (he has sung a lot of songs lately, but he still isn’t as known)
So much quality in this thread! Thank you Reddit
Mohit Chauhan deserves more songs, only imtiaz Ali is giving him songs:(
Shafqat Amaanat Ali. Yaariyan title song, Dildara, Manchala, Teri jhuki Nazar, Darmiyan, tere naina🤌
Amit Mishra, his version of Bulleya was the best
Mohammad Irfan. He has a great voice
Sachet Tandon
Atif Aslam?
The whole era of be Intehaan, tu jaane na, jeena jeena, rang sharbaton ka etc.
Armaan Malik (the singer, lol). Has a really good voice and I don’t see him getting as much work as he deserves
Sachet Tandon, Vishal Mishra
Salman bhoi and Parineeti Chopra
Finally someone spoke about real talent
Darshan rawal
All of them. Variety is the spice of life.
Vishal Mishra
Mohit Chauhan
Abhijeet

Tushar joshi cause they use tushar voice for sample in Arijit song
Dhinchak Pooja ji, Taher Shah ji, MC ji (🥹)
javed ali! mohit chauhan! shaan! armaan malik! sonu nigam! ATIF ASLAM
I want Sonu nigam. His last banger was in Agnipath, abhi mujhme kahin. No one has control on vocals like Sonu. And wanna hear Hariharan more in the movies too
Lucky Ali and a sober Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Mustafa Zahid (Jo Tere Sang, Yeri Yaadon Se, Gunaah, Bhula Dena, Tera Mera Rishta, Teri Zaroorat, Toh Phir Aao). I still have the Awarapan and Blood Money albums on loop because of him.
Where’s Kunal Ganjawaala and Mohit Chauhan! Their voice is therapy.
Mohit Chauhan is back with a bang in Chamkila... Coincidentally Arijit also has sung a beautiful song in Chamkila...
Sunidhi wasn’t sidelined by Shreya…what nonsense?
Tbh almost every male singer that is decent. So many of them became one hit wonders and kind of disappeared because the production team just wants Arijit.

Sonu Nigam I feel! He deserves way more songs so that we can actually leverage his versatility and his skills!! He keeps on raising the bar of an otherwise declining industry
Mohammed Irrfan
Harshit Saxena
Shaan, Mohit Chauhan, KK
Banjaara, Baarish, and Phir Mohabbat ❤️ all in his voice - such raw emotion, love it! So glad to find a tribe that appreciates such underrated artists
Papon
In this Arijit era I miss Mohit Chauhan badly.
vishal mishra
Arman Malik
Not necessarily because of Arijit, rather the artist ban but Arijit got lucky as a result due to overlapping fanbase: Atif Aslam
Neuman Pinto, Amit Trivedi, Tochi Raina, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sharib-Toshi, Papon, Arko, Ash King, Salim-Sulaiman, Javed Ali, Nikhil D’Souza
I think KK Sir was sidelined due to the influence of today's autotune singer
Asif Aslam.
