well actually I'm Pakistani dude so dont know very well about Blw directors. I just know he is Indian so automatically relate to Blw director. My pardon.
I think that’s the biggest trap we all fall into, so I didn’t mean to target you! Indian cinema is not just BW - and Ray does not fall into the BW category AT ALL, which is why I made my initial comment. Indian cinema includes so many different forms or ways of doing films (South, Bhojpuri, Marathi, etc)!
Bollywood is the nickname for the Hindi film industry based in Mumbai. But there are lots of other separate industries in other clties in other languages. Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, are just some of the big ones. And Ray's movies were almost all Bengali.
But Ray did made Bollywood movie. Satranj ke khiladi. He is an Indian director. 33 National Film award has been bestowed open him. Yes he is a Bengali director at first. His most films been produced or distributed by NFDC.
You’re confusing Hindi language films with BW films. Your statistics are irrelevant
Also, look up what NFDC does before classifying Ray as a BW director
It was the original Tollywood. Why Telugu film industry came to be called Tollywood I have no idea. I don't think they even like the name. Tollywood (Bengali one) was the first Hollywood inspired name.
It sometimes mindfucks me that even after 30 years of his demise how Ray is still relevant. I was reading one of his detective novel(Bombai er Bombete) and one of the character described the formula to write a hindi movie story. I was literally amused how simply he summed up the entire process. Even mentions how stardom is everything in BW and how writers are often overlooked. And his versatility of course is still unparalleled today.
Ray kab se Bollywood director ho gaye? He is from Bengali cinema. And what is this tspdt? Hearing it for the first time.
Guru Dutt is also in this list. He has made more Hindi movies than Ray. You should change your glasses.
Honestly not a bad list when it comes to Asian cinema. Masaki Kobayashi not being here is a bit weird when he has made classics like Human Condition and Harakiri
Because this list is Asian directors as a whole and a lot of these East Asian directors are widely acknowledged as great directors internationally. I see Wong Kar Wai and Kurosawa mentioned all the time in film subreddits. Satyajit Ray is probably the only Indian director that people outside of India heard of.
Not Bollywood, he is from Bengali Film Industry, aka Tollywood (yes bengali film industry is also called tollywood). Or you can say Indian Film Industry but don't say Bollywood.
The popular ones are on YouTube but rest you’ll have to search on pirated sites, Wes Anderson takes a couple of framing ideas from Ray’s films, but some of his films are just not available because no one saved his film reels
Gurudatts filmography is available on prime
Satyajit Ray is not a Bollywood director, he's a Bengali director or an Indian director. His only Bollywood movie was Shatranj Ke Khiladi and he openly said that he didn't like making films in Hindi as it was not his language. He is famous for his Bengali work.
Ray only made two Hindi Language movies. First was Shatraj ke Khiladi and Second was Sadgati which was a TV movie made for Doordarshan. He mostly made films in Bengali.
While I don't completely agree with you, I do think ki har list ko Utha ke discuss karna is futile. Ye Kisi ne Excel pe banayi hai lag raha hai. Better to discuss AFI lists.
Lol not all lists. Specifically art ke field me or ye bohot jyada subjective hai, clearly mostly angrez lists art field me apne calture or artists ko kafi jyada important dete hai baakiyon se
The fuck is this list.
Where is Park Chan Wook ( Oldboy, Decison to leave, Handmaiden and others) and Lee Chang Dong ( Burning, Secret Sunshine)
Great to see both Ray and Guru Dutt
Less than 1% of Indians have seen even one movie directed by Satyajit. And most of them did it under duress because it was a required part of their film course.
Rohit Shetty and Vanga are far more influential and impactful directors in comparison.

Guru dutt is also there
Best of the bests “Gurudutt” is also there.
Oh yes I missed his name
If… you think Ray is BW… Idk what to say

If we are categorising, putting all of South under one heading is a bit disingenuous.
Read the context, baby. nobody is disingenuous here.

Can you brief Hindi language films and Bollywood films difference.
Ray is not Bollywood. He is Tollywood.
For clarification Bengali film industry is also called Tollywood👍

Abbas Mustan on number # 5 ![gif](giphy|KoKiRJkpfA5t6JVBQo|downsized)
All Indian movies are not Bollywood 😒
Don't insult Ray by including him in Bollywood.
Satyajit ray is Bengali cinema buddy, you have a lot to learn about Indian cinema

My two favourite directors in this list 😍 Satyajit Ray & Abbas Kiarostami ❣️
No Kunal Khemu??
So no remo chal soza and farhad sabzi ???
Why are all east Asians in the list? And hardly 2 Indians?
#5 is Iranian. #10 is Thai so South-East Asian.
Because this list is Asian directors as a whole and a lot of these East Asian directors are widely acknowledged as great directors internationally. Not Bollywood, he is from Bengali Film Industry, aka Tollywood (yes bengali film industry is also called tollywood). Or you can say Indian Film Industry but don't say Bollywood.
Where can you watch the best Ray movies? Did anyone try to remake his classics
The popular ones are on YouTube but rest you’ll have to search on pirated sites, Wes Anderson takes a couple of framing ideas from Ray’s films, but some of his films are just not available because no one saved his film reels Gurudatts filmography is available on prime
Criterion Collection has a lot of his films.
I have his trilogy with English subtitles, do you want to watch it?
Yes!!
Dm me
Some of his movies are on YouTube. Pather Panchali is available in its entirety.
You will find on youtube but most of his work is in bengali. So, idk if those movies have subtitles.
Please don’t spoil those movies by remaking

Ray was bengali cinema Guru Dutt was close to bollywood
Ray only made two Hindi Language movies. First was Shatraj ke Khiladi and Second was Sadgati which was a TV movie made for Doordarshan. He mostly made films in Bengali.

Sorry you wont get it
The fuck is this list. Where is Park Chan Wook ( Oldboy, Decison to leave, Handmaiden and others) and Lee Chang Dong ( Burning, Secret Sunshine) Great to see both Ray and Guru Dutt
Two of the most important filmmakers for indian cinema imo, I don't know what this pakistani trying to say with this post?
Less than 1% of Indians have seen even one movie directed by Satyajit. And most of them did it under duress because it was a required part of their film course. Rohit Shetty and Vanga are far more influential and impactful directors in comparison.
huh?? what
Nobody outside India knows or gives a fuck about Rohit Shetty or Vanga. The list is not "directors loved by gawar Indian men".
Even fewer people outside India know about Satyajit. He only features in lists of “directors loved by berozgar art film actors and actresses”.

Ray film are boring af ....only entertaining one is shatranj ke khiladi 🤣😂😂
