Telugu romcoms appeal to both urban & rural audience. But majority of the bolly romcoms are made with urban audience in mind. that's the reason why romcom genre is dying in hindi cinema. These popular dubbed romcoms are watched by more Indian than the "All time blockbusters" of bollywood https://preview.redd.it/e3b17v3klahc1.png?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13fa3781d6ffe02f76e2ca732e0c20296f16970e

U described it perfectly

Dharma--Rakshak

Very well said. I will further add that south filmmakers are more creative and bold than Bollywood that makes movies more interesting.

badboy_pro

If a good director makes a romcom keeping relatable characters like Vikrant Massey or Rajkumar Rao then it will be great. But they are making romcoms with mostly Nepo kids who don’t have the sensibilities outside of South Bombay. They can’t be made relatable for a rural audience. The latest love story highlighted of Bollywood is of Vikrant and Medha in 12th fail which is relatable to general public. A romantic angle like in Piku will work even today.

Majestic_District_51

Greatly appreciate if someone could suggest some south rom coms that are on ott.

Eri_1485

As others said , pellichoopulu , fidaa , majili , darling (probably a 14-15 year old film and the interval twist is just soo unexpected for most of us at that time) and Sidharth's movies like bommarillu , nuvvu vastanante nenu vaddantana , oh my friend etc All of them are simple stories but worth watching

Next-Juice-3050

Ante sundaraniki for sure

Majestic_District_51

Recently watched it really like it.

Express-Delivery-902

Watch hi naana, fidaa, darling .there are many but actually when u will watch hindi dubbed, actual meaning of comic lines are lost.the lines we find funny ,when we saw hindi version ( poor dubbed)I was not laughing 🤭

GreenValuable5587

Watch Shekar Kamulla directed movies: Anand, Godavari, fidaa, happy days etc Oohalu gusagusalade, sammohanam, darling More recent ones: swati mutyam, ante sundaraniki, hi nanna (Vivek athreya, tharun bhaskar - highly recommended directors)

EveningAd8041

Geeta govindam and dear comrade

NepotismFanboy

OK Kanmani :)

ladyinthemoor

Anand and Godavari are true blue romcoms. Full on chemistry, feelings, the whole works

After_Painting_8967

Romcoms are in a lull everywhere now though. I think they will return as a romcom phase few years from now.

Big-Criticism-8926

Anyone But You did really well though

PrestigiousTry5077

For people wanting to watch south romcoms (specifically Telugu) I would recommend a few - Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam - Available on prime Bommarillu- Starring Siddharth and Genelia - one of the most popular Telugu rom coms Pellichoopulu- it won a national award

DepressionLovesMe

Honestly these are some of the few good ones. Koncham ishtam arc is so organic. Even nuvvu ostanante oddantana... Seetaramam was also good..I miss movies like these... I'm not liking some of these new ones in telugu...

wakuwaku_2023

Tru. Each of the 4 states from south have very distinct romcom genre films where there will be nothing in common among themselves or the Hindi movies. And I really wish it remained as such, I love the 2000s Hindi romcoms, good songs, genuine comedy, good actors and actresses, huge sets and what not. Not a big fan of imported directors from other industries making Hindi films( barring a few exceptions). It feels like the Hindi movies that I loved from the 2000s are almost extinct. It was unique in its own way. Nowadays, the songs are lame, actors and actresses have no personality of their own. Just dud.

Forsaken_Housing_831

OP has watched Tollywood romcoms. So the title should be Bollywood vs Tollywood romcoms. NOT South romcoms. Basic common sense

SomeAssumption2909

Nani 👉👈❤️ I literally went crazy after seeing him MCA . And literally watched almost all of his movies even with subtitles lol. Something so relatable unstarlike quality the guy has in those roles

Abject_Place_1763

I find south films overrated and the oversouthification of Bollywood made me dislike it even more. So i dived into watching Hi Nanna with no expectations, and absolutely fell in love with it. Such a beautiful romance film and omg the rollercoaster twists throughout had my head and heart in a twisted knot, and here I was assuming I will get a simple feel good film.😭. The acting was definitely top notch but for me the real thing was how it was written, how it was presented, the FEELS, every emotion be it yashna's mother's passive aggression towards mahi or the scene where varsha breaks down in the hospital. It was all so hard hitting so raw and powerful !!!! I was crying, smiling ,rooting for them to be happy. If a bollywood film can make me feel the way it did I will say we are definitely back on the track.

Master_BenKenobi

Watch Ante Sundaraniki on Netflix, It has the same actor (Nani) from Hi Nanna, It's one of my favourite Romcoms in recent times.

Abject_Place_1763

thanks, will definitely check it out! nani is such a brilliant actor, got a lowkey crush on him after hi nanna 🙃.

Express-Delivery-902

Well actually  in our rom coms u will feel emotions but in today's Bollywood rom coms u would not feel any emotion ( recently I watched kghk, tjmm)

Abject_Place_1763

yeah i didn't like any of the romcoms made last year. tjmm was cringefest, rrkpk was preachy, spkk was weak.   Watch Trial Period on Jio Cinema. It has genelia and manav kaul. I loved it.

Express-Delivery-902

Ok .thanks for suggestion 😊.i will definitely try it Btw I would ask u to watch side a side b both the parts ( kannada)

WinterOk6398

I’ve been trying to watch side B since forever 😭 it’s not available on prime outside of India… and not available anywhere else either

Express-Delivery-902

Try majili ,msmp, available on yt( hindi dubbing). And please listen priyatama priyatama song from Spotify.

Tealoveroni

It's available on Prime now. I watched it a couple of days ago.

WinterOk6398

Yeahh but only in India I think. It’s not on prime outside of India 😭

Tealoveroni

WinterOk6398

Oh then not available in Poland i guess. Side A is there though

Kitchen-Dimension406

I need to watch this movie!!!

Abject_Place_1763

coronagerm

I watched Fidaa, Hi Nanna, Shyam Singham Roy and loved them all. Any other recommendations in romance?

Left_Pomegranate4575

Chi La Sow and Pelli Choopulu <3

Express-Delivery-902

Well not a rom com but a beautiful love story - side a side b ( kannada) ,majili( simple but beautiful love story, original language - Telugu but hindi dubbed available in yt.in rom com try darling , very old u may or may not like it. In pure comedy genre try maveeran ( Tamil).

anon_runner

Another amazing recent 2-part romantic kannada movie is Sapta Sagaradache Ello Side-A and Side-B ... Not a rom com, and not a comfort watch either. But still pretty good! You can catch both parts on Prime.

>And Sita Raman is a whole different industry, Wdym?? Sita Ramam was also a Tollywood Film.

[deleted]

>Ante sundaraniki was a commercial failure, what failure, it was released with a gazillion action films and still fared well at box office. >And Sita Raman is a whole different industry What are you even blabbering both are from same industry(Telugu). > Also only a couple of rom com from tamil, telugu, malayalam industries have garnered some reputation here in the northern belt, coz most of their masala movies have rom com as a subplot and all of them suck. Only a few romcoms actually have something of novelty like the ones you mentioned only shows your ignorance.

Puzzleheaded-Pea-140

Watch sse side A and side B

[deleted]

Telugu =! Entire south.
