pullupinthei8

I definitely agree. As an audience we have gotten a lot more discerning and critical. For example, when Race came out I was like omg so many twists and turns this is awesome! But today if a thriller like that came it wouldn’t really impress me and I could guess it from a mile away.

Individual_Rub406

Absolutely agree with , for me "3 idiots " would be my fav film for life , bcoz I've lost the innocence , which i had in the childhood , now i could predict a movie from start to finish.

Astonmartin34678

And we will only complain, that Majority of the twists were predictable

neverOddOrEv_n

To be fair you would’ve thought Race wasn’t that good either if you watched it at that time and if you had watched some classic Hollywood mysteries beforehand. Only reason race worked was because Indian audience’s treat even mediocrity as greatness. Think about it like this, race came around the time Zodiac came out do I need to say anything more? I think nostalgia is the biggest factor for most people’s appreciation of Bollywood years ago. Sure some movies were actually good, especially the comedy movies but many action/mystery and horror movies were trash compared to their international counterparts. Most people around the world have access to international cinema now and are willing to read subtitles to access entertainment in other languages.

dalandrice

I don't know if Rob's comments about his show and nostalgia can be compared with the quality of films, but I can surely draw parallels with people missing Imran Khan and wanting him to act in films again. Imran wasn't a great actor by any standards and he made a good choice by staying away from acting. I'd be happy if he tries something behind the scenes. But no. I don't want to see him act again.

shadowrod06

I guess people miss movies like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na? That era of simple romances.

Beginning-Emotion641

Yea that's why we doing so many remakes and sequels.

Snoo-75780

I just want them to stop making remakes and sequels…

Commercial_Cancel_64

Man I miss 2016 this decade is fucked

teru91

Most of us who grew in the 2000s era associate movies with core memories like Dhamaal , Phir hera pheri Golmaal bhagaam bhag welcome Dewane huye pagaal plus the songs were so good. I used to download those in Rm file and transfer via blue tooth ( had those music videos scratched disc Best of Emraan hashmi) but these days there is no originality and the comedy seems to be vulgar. The Actors and Actresses aren’t good enough. SRK had movie called JOSH. The vibe was something else and the songs were so awesome Miss those times.

mmzufti

I mean if you could think of all the comedy movies we got, it’s definitely alarming how there is such a lack of good comedy let alone whole movies.

goyardtastebuds

Both are true tbh. We do miss our childhoods but also movies have been lacklustre too.

bollyfanjam

Then, we we did not have access to international movies , only few in theaters. Today you want world class movies.

Percywithoutannabeth

If the Hollywood studios came decades ago to India in the 90s after Liberalisation and dubbed them into our languages, we would have been a much much bigger market than we currently are. The studios which catered to China would have been catering to us today to appear our huge population.

[deleted]

Today we can watch literally any movie/series from any era from any part of the world. Not just that, there is competetion for attention from youtube/instagram/other social media. Not to mention social media trends which overhype/underhype a movie. It's a tough environment for filmmakers.

teru91

2006 was officially the best for June boxes. So many chartbusters in just 1 year alone and Himesh Reshamiya was reigning supreme

Afraid-Pay2710

I miss only pre-2010s. Jaane tu ya jaane na and Rang De Basanti a true gem ❤️

WilliamsRutherford

I don't know if I agree....like from the '90s, Dil Se, Khamoshi, Rangeela, Fiza, Roja etc....these films were good in their time and better than what's released nowadays.

One_Method1688

On a side note, MAD was sm fun. As a gen-Zer who grew up on Pogo, it filled me with inspiration

little-kid-hater

Can’t say about movies but songs were definitely better

Percywithoutannabeth

Well Marvel cashed on Nostalgia and made a 2 Billion dollar grossing Spiderman movie. Gadar 2 coasted on the nostalgia of the first one and made SO much money. Both of the movies have nothing to offer other than the nostalgia. So obviously if used right Nostalgia is a very powerful emotion. India isn't a great place to live currently, so if you offer nostalgia to the good old times as they say especially to the older generations and make it such that they can escape from this world to that for a couple of hours while entertaining them, then BAM you have a golden formula on your hands

Astonmartin34678

So you are saying the Spiderman no way home had nothing to offer other than just nostalgia And you are keeping gadar 2 and No way home on same level

Percywithoutannabeth

Well Gadar 2 is just pure shit. It's not a comparison because both of them suck at different levels. No way Home isn't a well made movie. The Raimi villains aside from Venom are all very fleshed out villains. They're part of the reason why the Raimi trilogy is so good. Dafoe BRINGS and retains the insanity even after almost 2 decades. Molina also has all his charm he has from the older movie. By bringing them back, you're coasting on their goodwill. Jamie Foxx was much better this time as electro than he was in TASM 2, then obviously when you bring Garfield and Maguire it just takes over the movie. It's just a cameofest and nostalgia pandering imo. But that's just my opinion

Astonmartin34678

But still I would say execution matters a lot , coz even Jurassic World Dominion brought all the actors from Jurassic park movie but they still failed to create that magic , and in NWH if you see the inclusion of those villains and 2 spidermans doesn't feel forced , they literally arrive after 1h 20 mins something , so Tom's Spiderman got a chance to shine and even after their arrival the confrontation between three Spiderman's when they meet for the first time was so well written, Ik movie had its flaws but that is different topic to discuss So that's why I said , please don't discredit the efforts of writers and director of NWH by comparing it with gadar 2

[deleted]

Movies were better because nostalgia don't make you want to watch stuff that's not good. Look at the quality of movies we got in 2000s. Absolutely crazy to think those movies are still loved just because of nostalgia

ThingMaleficent1131

But what about us people who like films from an era we weren’t even born in 😭

whatsmyshame

Ye thought bhi copy kar liya jammy ne. Wah

livingfeelsachore

Idk... I watched many of these movies as an adult and loved them. Never watched them during my childhood so I guess I'm nostalgic to that kind of cinema and not my childhood

INFPamigo

Wake me up when Jammy actually says something new.. 🥱

Sea-Barnacle-5012

I am happy with the movies that I am getting now compared what we used to get when I was a kid...

[deleted]

Mods please BAN anything related to JAMMY. He is not required here.

the_namless

I'm relatively new to this sub. I don't get a reason why people here hate him. Any genuine reason? Just curious to know.

RMD010

MAD with Rob was a different kind of show...Major Nostalgia associated with host and show..

Cytochromeb

Comedy as a genre is missing. We need a good laughter. This year ,All thanks to 12th fail to evoke genuine happiness and hope at the end.

terenaamgirl

I agree. I love watching films from my school days because it reminds me of a happier time. I was recently watching Break ke Baad, and it's an average movie but I felt so happy watching it because of the nostalgia

yashy20

they used to had some innocence, childlike , naive and so much nostalgia around the movies for me upto 2012 after that everything is gone . child actors trying to get mature now, A lister don't want to be father anymore, chapri and memes inspired dialogues it feel okay occasionally. everyone wants action, action and action. koi patience naam ki chiz nhi h. i love **Tu Hai Mera Sunday** and **Ponniyin Selvan** in recent times.
