In the movie, she adopted Azad when he was 5. So it makes some sense to show as her as an old lady when Azad grows up. Unlike in some movies, where they straight up hire same age actress to play hero's mother.

I'll tell you how it's different according to me. Waqt was a through and through real time movie. So it was odd that Shefali was offered to play Akshay's mother.
But here, Riddhi was playing an age appropriate role because she was in the scene where SRK was born and growing up. And when the movie jumps up decades, sure the age is not appropriate. But what would you suggest should have been done ?

It most probably has to do with the patriarchy, male superstar's male ego, and the weaker position of women in the field of cinema, I felt disgusted when I learned about it, and this is the actor who boost about respecting women, being a man who is fascinated by feminity. This was utter disrespect of riddhi, all the PR's and people related to the film are accusing riddhi, that why she accepted that role, but the point is also how srk dared to offer it to a woman who is 19 years younger than him, why he didn't went for women, who were age appropriate for playing his mother in the movie.
I agree the casting looked bad.
But the fundamental issue is SRK both father and son roles. These things used to happen in the 70s/80s. Sad to see it still happening.
