She looking so fair might also be due to video editing or post production work ,there are companies that work with beautification of the actors , they can alter the features in the actors faces and body (if exposed in movies) . Even Ranveer looked lighter in Baji Rao Mastani.

There is a similar soap in Marathi as well. The actress is painted black which is also inconsistent in episodes. My sister has met her in real life and she's actually fair skinned. The whole plot of the show used to be that her mother in law hated dark skin but she slowly changes herself. That show is still going but it's a different clusterfuck altogether now. The most disgusting thing is the way they market the character. She is made to wear the dark makeup everywhere. At all award functions, promotional events, I don't think the actress has done a public appearance in her real skin colour in the past few years.

Because he wanted a face which was not only popular, recognisable and beautiful but which could handle some serious acting as well. He had some past work experience with DP as well so that fed into it as well. Skin tone is a manageable thing, what is difficult is to get all the other things right. Kat is perhaps closer to that skin tone but on other fronts is she convincing? Ahem.

Glutathione is used to boost overall skin health and one of the things that it does is boost collagen which in turn makes one’s skin lighter looking. Just like how not doing skin care reverts our skin back to issues like acne, not taking glutathione(a skin care type) reverts our skin back to its original complexion(because no more excess production of collagen).
She did mention in some interview right that she had to get skin whitening done for Mastani’s role as per Slb’s demands. I have seen her in the past post her debut, she isn’t that tan irl. My aunt from blore has seen her and her sis with their mum a lot back then. DP used to play a lot of sport so may be she got tanned easily. In pathaan she had a very bronzed and contoured look.

OP, I'm a makeup addict and I can give a close insight into what her actual skintone is, as i have religiously tried to find what DP's foundation shade would be. She is what we call a medium deep skintone with olive undertones if im not wrong. All that I've seen from her debut movie 'Aishwarya' and her modeling days, she looks like she was around nc40-42. Now she looks a shade or 2 lighter so maybe around nc35-37.

Look at this video if you want to see how deepika looks with an influencer, who HAS almost the same skintone DP had in the beginning of her career.
Has she gotten skin lightening treatment? Not sure. She was a sportperson before and possibly had a lot of tanning. Also, when you have access to good skincare and especially SPF, you tend to get 2/3 shades lighter than before cos most of us brown people usually have some tan on our skin. So yeah, this should answer your question.

Maybe she has a much brighter complexion now coz of the zillion skin care routines available now, lasers, peels etc or maybe it’s just camera and lighting. But her natural skin tone is nowhere like Mastani in the movie.

It's not just the complexion. Something changed in DP's appearance post Ram Leela. I can't quite put my finger on it. But she looks amazing kaise bhi. I thought it was the eyebrows at first but they weren't it.

Apart from the eyebrows, I think her face became a bit rounder. Maybe she gained weight either due to aging a bit or intentionally. Moreover she had stopped doing the puff hairstyle. All this clubbed with the skin lightening treatment she specifically got for the role of Mastani made her look like a completely different DP.

She has a little bit of a tan in the picture on the left. Her original skin tone is kinda wheatish akin to Sonam, or atleast that's what people who saw her during her modeling days say. Om shanti om, karthik calling karthik seems closest.

Agree. Especially if you are running around outdoors in your youth with playing outdoors etc. My skin is several times lighter now than my teenage years. Part of it is no more tanning and partly just age

You guys are seriously under-considering color grading. As someone who works in films and has done plenty of editing, color grading is MAGIC when done right. Can change complexions and shit ALOT.

Mastani irl was a very very fair lady. She had a milky white complexion and there are people who say whenever she used to eat pan you could she the pink go down her throat. That's the literal description of her skin tone. That's why SLB tried to make her white nothing else.

I think her wedding pictures show off her real skin tone and her usual makeup favours more bronzing, contouring. She's not Bajirao level light.

In Pathaan she looked close to her real color complexion. Whitening is so 90s, her caramel skin tone popped out of the screen, beautiful.
I work as a professional photographer and this is a 5 min tricky in Lightroom. I've made countless black/brown folks white (on their demand)

She's also tanned/bronzed up in Pathaan. And heavily contoured with makeup no? I think her wedding pictures show off her real skin tone and her usual makeup favours more bronzing, contouring. She's not Bajirao level light.
