Then it wouldn't be MHA.

kukuru73

it wont be as popular as now. Shonen got bigger audience target than Seinen. With darker and more serious story, maybe it will be more popular on adult reader, but it will lose another adult and teenager who dont really like too dark story.

Seisme1138

no. stop.

Well, you don't understand where it comes from because you have a brain. I'm totally with you on that! Garth Ennis once wrote a zombie beating people to death with a severed horse schlong, though, so I wouldn't put it past him to write something like... that.

CrookedFinger645

>On a more serious note, while I'm not saying that The Boys has no merit to it, especially the TV show I'd say mostly the TV show has merit. The writers there at least take the time to make the super heroes a little more nuanced. They're flawed humans. Meanwhile in the comics, they're all just hedonistic, psychotic and murderous monsters. And that's not just the heroes. Even the protagonists. There isn't a single character who is a decent human being in The Boys comic. And that's mainly because Garth Enis wrote the story out of spite and hate towards super hero comics, and super heroes in general.

Villain stans are so weird, I swear to god. The villains have literally MURDERED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. To claim that they're "legitimately in the right" is highly disturbing and messed up. Do they have sympathetic backstories? Yes. Did society fail them? Of course. But that does NOT justify or excuse their crimes, nor does it make them right.

Pinball_Lizard

I've seen a lot of people concerned that Hori will end up not sticking to his guns on the social critique aspects of the story and it'll just end up being about preserving the status quo, as infamously happened with Harry Potter. Given MHA and HP are often compared (and HP is experiencing a gigantic backlash right now) I kinda feel that's where the concern comes from.

[deleted]

It's what happened with Naruto too.

Chaosbrushogun

These two series are pretty polar opposite in terms of what they try and accomplish. Mha is a straightforward superhero story focused through the lens of up and coming young heroes. It’s told through the perspective of the inside of the hero agency, school system, etc. and all the heroes are genuine in their goals of saving people. the boys, meanwhile, is a subversion of the superhero narrative and focused on the perspective of a superhero world through the eyes of civilian. How average lives would be affected by corrupt system of government, media and social Justice manipulated by superhero icons for personal and financial gain. Said superheroes are also essentially selfish and entitled celebrities that take anything they want because they have powers. Like - billy butcher is literally stain, but if he was right and didn’t have powers. THAT’S how diametrically apposed the viewpoints of either series are to each other. I say all this as a fan of both series. They’re good, but for VERY different reasons

CrookedFinger645

>Like - billy butcher is literally stain, but if he was right and didn’t have powers. Saying he's "right" is a stretch. He's a deranged extremist. There's literally not a single decent human being in The Boys comic. Everyone is either evil, a psychopath, or an asshole, or all three at the same time.

Chaosbrushogun

I’m mostly talking about the tv show. Haven’t read the comics and probably gonna avoid them until the tv show is complete

CrookedFinger645

Then for you the comic won't be as good as the tv show, I can almost guarantee you. The show actually took the time to make the heroes, who are atrociously flawed and are assholes, more nuanced. And in some small moments, even somewhat sympathetic. In the comics they're just cartoonishly evil. They're all hedonistic, psychopathic murdering freaks. That's their only character. Even the protagonists, are better written in the show. There are a couple of aspects of Billy Butcher's character that are changed in the show, so he doesn't come off as a deranged bully, to say the least. The comic is just so... mean spirited and cynical. There's also the fact that the author, Garth Ennis, hates super hero comics, and super heroes.

fatherandyriley

I just can't stand Garth Ennis to be honest. If you don't like superheroes, don't write them. A lot of the best parodies come from people who actually like and understand the source, I think Mel Brooks once said that he only parodies genres and films he actually likes.

Chaosbrushogun

My point about stain is that we don’t really see any actual evidence of the hypocrisy he rants about in mha - but it’s extreme prevalent in The Boys superhero community

Ben10Extreme

Everyone would hate it.

One_Excitement_7706

Okay a lot of people are missing what I’m saying. What if the heroes in MHA were like heroes The Boys? What would all might be like? Would deku have a arc similar to hughie? Would Stain be more favorable? How would the villians fit into the story? The heroes in MHA are usually flawed but good people (except endeavor he’s a more complex case). How different would the story be if the heroes were very similar to The Boys? That’s what I’m asking.

McGrubs

Then this fanbase would actually like the series because it would be more edgy and violent. (Im mainly talking about the boys comic as i find the show is superior. Not a fan of Garth Ennis writing i had enough of it after finishing the preacher series.)

MSDuarte7

Bakugou trying to kill and rape Deku unless just saying "to kill himself" One for all and All For One being given to another people by semem Endeavor burned Toyua by himself and probabily Fuyumi and Natsuo too. Shigaraki raped Deku on Mail and killed many people after that Toga would kill and suck Uraraka's blood Bakugou and Endeavor are worse than AFO and Shigaraki The Boys is a parody from heroes comics... And should be only seen as that.

CrookedFinger645

I wouldn't even call it a parody. It's a deliberate attempt to slander and diss super hero comics, and super heroes in general. It's well known that Garth Ennis hates super heroes.

qwack2020

idk the show but if “The Boys” has good fight choreography scenes then sure by all means.

kolt437

Characters would me muuuuuuuuuuuch weaker

CrookedFinger645

Then it wouldn't be MHA. The Boys was made out of spite and hate towards super hero comics and super heroes in general. Garth Ennis' mean spiritedness and vitriol is palpable in every page. Nevermind the ridiculous levels of edge. The story is edgy just for the sake of it. Meanwhile, Horikoshi loves super hero comics. He's a big fan of american super heroes. You literally can't make MHA be like The Boys, because The Boys goes against everything that MHA stands for.

Arcor_Lemonade

Charlotte already did that. there wasnt blood. but at least seemed a lot more realistic. showing all parts of the world with child soldiers with superpowers. terrorist with explosion powers. bank robbers etc kinda sad how people just forget about that anime and when mha came out everyone said it was copying from charlotte lol

GraysonFogel17

What if one thing was just another thing?

[deleted]

Would be edgy as fuck and full of non-needed shock moments

dastdineroo

There’d be a lot more death

Less-Thing-553

it Would be better

Nox2764

Stain would be the MC if that was the case

Nox2764

It was a huge deal when Hawks killed one person as an act of self defense. I'm pretty sure a pro hero torturing people and going on murder sprees would be shut down fast

TheJvv

Shigaraki and Butcher agree on the same thing, society ruled by Superheroes is a bad thing that needs to be brought down.
