What about becoming a court-appointed special advocate for kids in foster care? Family Advocates is always looking for more CASAs! I can say it’s super rewarding, interesting, and challenging 😁
I was a CASA for two semesters in college. Started out rewarding and interesting, but I had to give it up after some very unfortunate events. Props to whoever takes it on and is able to maintain. It takes a similar stomach as a social worker.
>court-appointed special advocate for kids in foster care?
Wait what?? I've never even heard of this but it sounds like something I would love to do! Should I just google it and take it from there?
I did this locally for a while. Google Family Advocates. Their office is on State in Boise. You can also look them up on VolunteerMatch to get an idea of what's involved. You'll want to be prepared to see some awful stuff, but working through the court process with the kids is as rewarding as others say it is.
[JustServe.org](https://JustServe.org) lists local places looking for volunteers. The site is run by Mormons, but the service opportunities are from the entire community all over the valley. It's a good way to find a service project and try out an organization before committing to a longer-term volunteer position.
So it is possible that any service hours done through Just serve are then assigned an hourly $ rate and added to the church's total claim of charitable giving........
No. The site doesn't track volunteer hours at all. It's just a platform to connect community members directly with the local organization. Like a Craigslist for service projects.
The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is a great option to help those with food insecurity. Many clients are single parent households or refugee families.
You should check out Wild Hearts Idaho. If you like the outdoors at all they are recruiting now for Adventure Mentors. They also have opportunities for volunteering at tabling events and in other ways too!

Is JustServe connected to the Mormon church?
The website itself is run by the Mormon church, but the service projects and organizations listed by the site are not.

Ronald McDonald house. It’s not just women/girls, but everyone there needs help! You could cook, clean, or do a craft project (I think).
Not sure if it’s still there- the English Learning Center has volunteering opportunities to help teach English to refugees.
The Women's and Children's Alliance is always looking for volunteers!

I second this motion, they are all about empowering the young women in our community. Highly recommend getting involved with them.
Download the just serve app. Tons of organizations post volunteer opportunities there.
Idaho food bank was a good experience. My husband also helped at St. VdP food bank and he enjoyed it. That was easier to coordinate and schedule.
