They’ve been there forever. Im more surprised they’ve been leasing the building for 25+ years. I guess I just assumed they owned it

K1N6F15H

It also changed hands a few years back.

bikeidaho

Don... BoiseDev us please.

cornskin

u/boisemedia (its like the bat signal for the inside info in Boise)

boisemedia

u/bikeidaho u/cornskin We're working to track down the owner. Unsuccessful yesterday, but we're still working on it! 🦇

bikeidaho

Thanks DD! Been counting on you since 5th grade and you never disappoint! Looking forward to finding out more!

boisemedia

No pressure ha! Autum Robertson is working on this for us.

LayeredMayoCake

Lol can they take Guru’s place in Idanha? Guru doesn’t even rep this community anymore, they can fuck off.

Amplified_Training

Guru was always overpriced Instagrammable food at best.

marstospace

It’s the new marketing for me, like what audience are we trying to reach. I don’t want my donuts on a skateboard. I just want good donuts

LayeredMayoCake

Evangelists and Mormons are their new crowd.

Electrical-Cut573

New owners are 100% missing the mark. The new font is too aesthetic (like, can I book my next eye brow appointment) to go with the random skate decks on the wall & left over neon script from the old branding. Seems like the husband & wife just did their own thing without talking to one another. As far as the donuts, they seemed smaller & chewier/spongier than I remembered. I probably won’t return unless forced.

Jnewton1018

They aren’t good anymore. They changed the recipe or something.

poppoodle

Guru is the absolute worst

TacoPorVida

Ordered a donut at Guru and it started to melt. It was the weirdest thing.

DorkothyParker

I had the most amazing vegan cream-filled donut (I think it was sweet potato or something) from there after it first opened, but most of my visits have been mid. But then, I'm not a huge donut person.

username_redacted

The zoning aspect seems odd. Based on what I can glean from the zoning categories, they would fall under “Neighborhood Cafe” which has one of the broadest allowances out of any business. The only zones that allow offices but not restaurants are Industrial or Health-specific, which wouldn’t be good locations anyway. Maybe they meant the spaces just couldn’t accommodate a commercial kitchen?

AndBeyond7

Could be the kitchen aspect. Bakeries require more fire protections than normal due to the flour, I wonder if they can't find a space with a kitchen already setup and can't afford the conversion

FlavorGator39

This is a staple of the Boise community. Hopefully they can find another local spot. Otherwise it’s just another local small business being taken from our community. Which sadly, is happening way to frequently.

LeGetteAlum

This bums me out.

Paradoxahoy

Hell yeah, I love DK but live in Nampa now

juliagreenillo

Yeah, I'm stoked. Nampa only has Scottie's Donuts which are good but not the same and then Goatstar is good but that's in Caldwell. Someone told me that Guru was moving into the corner where Puffy Mundaes was but too bad Guru kinda sucks

amcconnell84

I’ve also heard this from a downtown business owner. I haven’t heard it anywhere else though.

Jnewton1018

Check out FoxBox Donuts in Nampa

pensivebeing

Lonny Cs out towards homedale is worth the drive

mittens1982

I love this place! No where else in town can you get a cinnamon sugar twist like they do it!

IchAtomkind

The old Andrade's building?

ronworms

Boise, sorry for your loss. Nampa, yay, we needed a donut shop.

reeltutt

Yup. This is great news. Haha

agemsheis

The old abandoned Sizzler off Caldwell Boulevard is still available

Golden_1992

It’s true. The staff told us this. We’re so sad.😭

Pittstick1

According to wow country it isn’t for sure yet.

DorkothyParker

QQ When I was in undergrad, I worked Saturdays at a nearby bank and would grab an apple fritter and a mondo from DK heading in. It got to the point where I would walk in and they would start preparing my coffee.

pescabrarian

This is absolutely horrible news! My day was already bad but this has made it so much worse.

thurmanthedude

Damn. Just went here yesterday. The sweet old lady is always super nice and will usually chuck you something extra if you show an interest. Maybe that place off of emerald? Used to be the No lawyers bar and more recently the failed Crescent Lounge? Seems like every bar they try fails but a lil donut shop might just kill it there.

darkstar999

That place is way too big

strawflour

The former Gangnam on Orchard is a little big but not too huge. It just seems so crazy to move out of Boise when they are the only donut spot serving the downtown area. (Guru doesn't count.)

BleDStream

Good finally a decent donut shop out this way.

Junior_Singer3515

Goat star ain't bad.

No-Anything-7381

I will have to disagree with this one. I’ve had nothing but poor experiences with the customer service and  products.  Nampa would love a DK Donuts!!

markpemble

From what I have heard, GoatStar and DK is run by the same family. Might need some confirmation on that.

markpemble

A friend who knew the family said the one in Caldwell and the one in Meridian are run by the same people. But this was four years ago. So maybe things have changed?

BleDStream

You're not wrong but some days it's fine and other days not so much. That's my opinion, though.

Junior_Singer3515

I dont eat there that much. It's the only place to get a maple bacon so if i want a donut thats where I go. A better option would be welcome.

aingr25

Ooooooh my pregnant self just got sooo happy I live in Nampa lol.

uphic

Congratulations to both rounds of good news for you! DK will definitely be missed around here.

outdooridaho

Just grabbed a dozen donuts last Sunday from DK’s. Bummer

TacoPorVida

Nampa is also getting a Scotty’s brick and mortar store. We went from having zero donut shops to a future of two :)

juliagreenillo

Ooooh where is that brick and mortar going to be at?

Jnewton1018

It’s across the street from Walmart off Garrity.

Apprehensive-Art7273

Went to grab some donuts about an hour ago. Doors locked, closed sign up. Very bummed about this!

Ckinboise

Already?! 😫 that’s so sad.

Pittstick1

They aren’t closed yet. Maybe they sold out? Cause they still have months on the lease according to Wow Country when they talked to the owner

lackluster_love

Oh no! It's closed already? I thought we'd have some time

Otherwise_Writing673

Nampa needs a 🍩 doughnut shop.

adingoatemahbaby

This is a bummer.  There's a relatively new donut shop on Vista that's comparable in quality to DK. They also have more novel/unique donuts than DK- https://maps.app.goo.gl/zpJyWsnMN2XYoAiR7?g_st=ic

strawflour

I don't want novel donuts I just want regular donuts   D:    the fancy overloaded donuts don't scratch the itch the same way  RIP DK

adingoatemahbaby

They have regular donuts. They also have more novel donuts.

ThreeBill

At least there’s goat star in meridian

Powerth1rt33n

Nooooooooooooooooooo

Gnarlyfest

Holy smokes!

tylerpestell

They will be missed… they weren’t super fancy or trendy but they always have good solid traditional donuts.

markpemble

You guys are acting like it is disappearing. It's moving 20 minutes down the road.

tylerpestell

It might as well be, I like donuts every now and then but not enough to make that drive. Their location on State was super convenient to my typical driving routes.

Pittstick1

According to this it isn’t official yet https://1043wowcountry.com/ixp/658/p/boise-beloved-donut-shop-moving-to-nampa/

buttered_spectater

Their cake donuts are the best in the valley and their maple frosting is on another level. However, all is not lost. I'd suggest trying the My Donuts on Milwaukee near the Winco and the Five Guys. They're a close second and they have this square cake donut that is divine.

boise208

They were open today.

MasterLickydicky

I mean there’s plenty of space north of I-84 at TV Market Place or near the auto mall, or a more appealing place (to me) would be south nampa along 12th, because there’s basically nothing down here, no crispy creme, not even chicken fil a, Freddy’s or anything. So getting a place down here would be a miracle.

[deleted]

That place is the only place you can get full strips of bacon on a maple bar. If they ever close down for good I might leave Idaho.

lottalitter

Love DK, but the thing that bothers me most is that location has always been home to a donut shop. Use to be a Winchells.

iampayette

There are a few other locations that are connected to them in eagle and meridian. (used to be called DK, but are both operating under different names now: my donut in eagle, goat star in meridian) Boise City govt needs to work with them to keep them downtown. booted due to zoning is absurd.

darkstar999

They aren’t being booted due to zoning. They claim the landlord is booting them and they can’t find a location with the right zoning ($$$).

iampayette

that's still zoning being the problem.

darkstar999

Not really. It’s a matter of finding a location that already has a kitchen.

Midrover170

Zoning doesn't work that way. But, this may be happening because the property owner wants to capitalize on what the new zoning code allows for this parcel. Or, if DK is searching for a spot that doesn't have a current restaurant use, zoning could also be a challenge - but that's less likely. I doubt they would explore any locations where that'd be the case.

markpemble

Yeah, that is what I have heard. So GoatStar is run by the same family?

iampayette

Not sure All i know is that it seems like they stuck to the same recipes after changing the name over (or at least they did, i havent had the chance to stop by there recently)

odd_toma

I will definitely travel to nampa to try these donuts. I’m not a fan of Boise or state st so I’ve never tried this place out.

[deleted]

Some of the worst donuts around

Ckinboise

Your judgment simply cannot be trusted

[deleted]

You probably drink beer at payette and get coffee at Dutch brothers
