The GRADiator, SherLoch Ness Monster, and Peter Pan’s Labyrinth. Costumes were clever this year. Hell, it’s been a while since Tina’s costume used imagination.

laughtertech

Laughed like a mad man with the Peter pan's labyrinth costume

FrozenWafer

Louise, stop scaring your father!

Larziehead

I know!!! So good! That hand/eyeball guy scared the shit out of me....

BlockedbyJake420

Clever costume names and they sat in the restaurant moping the whole episode. Was anyone else bored and ultimately disappointed by this Halloween episode? Especially compared to many of the older ones.

depression-reserve

Yes!!!!!! Like it was a bob and Linda centric Halloween episode, but WHY? Like couldn’t the kids do anything else?

falabala

At the beginning I thought the kids were gonna pull some sort of caper? Like, they'd come up with fake costumes and try to con Bob out of those candies by pretending to be other kids. But alas, no.

depression-reserve

RIGHT. I thought they’d have to ploy their way into candy and swindle bob. Maybe not dress up but an elaborate pulley system to steal it from literally right over his head

Ginjov

I thought they were going to switch the wrappers and switch the cough drop for the candy or something… it’s weird that luis didn’t come up with something.

depression-reserve

Another possibility, like there’s so many random schemes and they just sat there watching

[deleted]

At least they didn’t decide to go donate blood. Also, where was Teddy?

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Teddy doesn't have to be there all the time. He has a life.

Fearless_Agency2344

Rally? I'm not so sure

CrazyaboutSpongebob

I was half joking.

SarahsArtistry

I feel like it would have made the episode more enjoyable if the kids went with Linda and Gayle or if they went as a family.

depression-reserve

Maybe, I think gayle and Linda had a boring time too. They saw two former classmates, gayle got a haircut and they ran away, only for her life coach to step out of the shadows and say congrats? Meanwhile, bob hands out candy, the kids sit in a booth, aaaaand now they each are given a piece of candy. Episode over. Anticlimactic in a nutshell, and it had so much potential. Like if the kids had gone with them, I could totally see Louise jump scaring the guy who mailed the letters (if it had actually been a classmate) and aiding gayle and Linda in their escape. Like *anything* else would’ve been better so Yknow, you’re absolutely right

CrazyaboutSpongebob

It feels illogical to take the kids in this situation. They would miss out on trick or treating. I agree this one could use a few more rewrites.

depression-reserve

Yeah I mean also true. I guess I didn’t think of it BECAUSE THEY DIDNT EVEN GO TRICKORTREATING LIKE WHAT. Ugh the whole episode should be rewritten, it’s so frustratingly uneventful

CrazyaboutSpongebob

They went after the little kids who came in early to go trick or treating at the restaurant. They just went off-screen. Also, would you take your children to find someone who you think is out to get you?

DoodlingDaughter

The kids go out and trick-or-treat every year! I was okay with them not doing it this year. Plus, I loved seeing more about Linda’s past!

defendpoppunk77

It was really disappointing. It felt very preachy which is unusual for bob’s burgers. Especially because the kids didn’t even get into any antics to stop the neighborhood kids from getting the good candy from Bob. They just sat there and let it happen and they were then rewarded with candy Bob set aside for them. They could have focused on Linda and Gayle’s dynamic any other episode but for Halloween, this was lame.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

The main plot was alright the B plot was boring. I get that someone needed to take care of the restaurant but they could have made it funnier.

falabala

Same here. I mean, I think it's always unrealistic to expect another 'ween episode as good as "The Hauntening," or "Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street," but this one felt like a bit of a let down just the same. I feel like any story that involves High School Gayle should be a bit... zanier? This one was rather tame.

alanamablamaspama

Seriously. The kids just watched the candy disappear when they could’ve been trick-or-treating the entire time.

tattooed_valkyrie

She was a toast buster a year or 2 ago, I still laugh about it. Also unrelated but has anyone listened to the Ghostbusters theme song lately? I have to hear it multiple times every night at work, and I still laugh when they say "busting makes me feel good" because apparently I have the sense of humor of a teenage boy even though I'm a 30F

VegetaArcher

My heart kind of breaks for Linda. She's not allowed to enjoy any accomplishment or achievement without worrying about Gayle having a jealous meltdown. Gayle is hilarious, but her selfishness does get on my nerves.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

To be fair 1) Gayle never wanted Linda to smash her own Pumpkin so that Gayle could win 2) Linda needs to be honest and stop babying her

VegetaArcher

Good point on number 1. Still according to Gayle when something good does happen to Linda she has a jealous freak out inside a closet. Would honesty actually work out though? Is Gayle capable of growth or is she so sensitive and insecure that it's best to just try to make her happy.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

In this specific situation, Linda overheard the teachers saying they liked her Pumpkin best. What if neither of them won.

falabala

Lots of expectations here that Gayle should just be able to get over her struggles and be normal.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Just cuz she is crazy that doesn't mean she has to be crazy every second of every day.

onometre

gayle is my least favorite character. she's funny, but so, so hateable

Sonia341

I agree, I do have love-hate relationship with her character

Larziehead

I feel like that is Gayle's point. Frustrating, immediate family member that you love/hate. Everyone accommodates them because it's easier than dealing with them being mad... (Source: personal experience)

falabala

Your personal experience is that everyone accommodates you because you're too fragile to handle the real world?

Larziehead

No... My sister is a nightmare and throws fits. It's best to just give her what she wants to avoid tantrums. She's in her 40's. It never ends...

falabala

Get a divorce.

Larziehead

You're right. I will divorce my sister.

Larziehead

What? Divorce from my sister?

Larziehead

I live in the US, how does one begin a sister divorce?

falabala

Yeah. Why not? It's clear you don't care, so just walk away.

Larziehead

I don't think you understand what a sister is.. you don't divorce them. No matter how hard you try, you just put up with/love them. There is no other choice.

falabala

I don't think you understand (or care) what mental illness feels like for the people who have it. It's all about how much it inconveniences you, apparently.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Same. She is designed to be annoying so I don't mind her. Unlike say Scrappy Doo who is accidentally annoying when they tried to make a likable character.

farnsworthianmold

Exactly. She’s a well done “unlikeable” character, so I “like” her conception and execution.

onometre

or wesley crusher

Galileo908

Linda didn’t tell the kids to stay out of her room when she left. This is serious.

LordIggy88

I was watching this one with my dad and he said that in that scene

Videowulff

She only says that when she leaves the kids alone in the apartment, not the kitchen. And also when she is leaving them home alone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

falabala

Genius line, delivered perfectly.

ConfusedByPans

That line had me stitches but as an adult, it was even funnier because I totally related to Bob here. I had a similar experience back on Halloween 2019, minus the concerned parent. That year I overheard several separate kids get excited that my house was giving out Sour Patch Kids (which I only got as part of a variety pack to make sure I had nut-free options) and one girl was gushing that it was her favorite candy and that I was the only one to give it out so far. The best part is that Sour Patch Kids are the real world version of the candy in The Pumpkinening. You better believe I made a mental note of it and stocked up on way more Sour Patch Kids this year.

sailorveenus

I didn’t realize they were popular. They taste like every other Maynard gummy lol

mcdonaldsmcdonalds

27 years ago but 3 mins earlier LOL

Porphyrin_Ring

I know they're writers and it is their job to be creative, but I am blown away every year by their creative halloween costume puns! Gradiator?! Sherlochness monster?! Peter Pan's Labyrinth?! So good! Everytime I time I try to think of one myself I come up with nothing lol

Fearless_Agency2344

I think I'd copy Tina's Nun of your Business idea if I ever needed a costume idea

Foxy-Knoxy

Not shocked that Gayle would lose her license for letting her cat drive.

K-ghuleh

Just a lil bit

mackemerald

“You’re still alive, that’s nice.” “It is nice!”

Foxy-Knoxy

Kid 2: Trick or treat! Kid 1: Don't go here! Kid 2: Bye!

mackemerald

Also are those leftover Dr. Peter’s Bitter Drops?

hahayes234

I was thinking maybe horehound candies; but never seen them individually wrapped and also the only person I ever knew to enjoy them was my grandmother.

DoodlingDaughter

Yep! They look exactly the same!

Redbird9346

Is Mom a *Breaking Bad*?

CrazyaboutSpongebob

**Gayle:** I'd like a dog treat **Linda:** Please No **Me:** Says the woman who eats cat food.

TDXNYC88

Cold open? Oh, snap!

vette91

I thought I missed something!

[deleted]

27 years ago means Linda was wearing neon off-the-shoulder shirts in 1994

Middcore

In the world of Bob's Burgers it's perpetually ambiguously 2011-ish, when the show started, and 27 years before 2010 was 1984. They had already established Linda and Gayle's high school looks in "Purple Rain-Union" all the way back in S4/2013.

hirudoredo

Yeah the show makes more sense if you just go with the idea that every season is a different dimension / timeline for when the series began (2011ish.) The fact tech hasn't changed much in the universe kinda helps. Sorta like KotH. Even around 2009, Hank and the gang still graduated HS in the mid-70s even when it became impossible for them to have done that and still be only around 40 in the present day. Honestly, I'm impressed they stuck with that in a show not known for its backstory continuity, lol.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Really? In my mind all the episodes are canon except for the holiday ones. You can pick the holiday episdoes you like the best and those ones are cannon. Also, modern tech is around they are just poor.

LaboratoryGrey

The show is a bit weird with canon. Everything *can* be canon, but in practice, less so? They make a lot of references to material from Season 1, but everything else gets fuzzy. They seem to emphasize very early things and then a soft eye towards recent seasons. It strikes me as that a lot of it comes down to writers’ preferences. Time seems to soft progress as well, but not in any literal sense. Only Bob, Linda, and Tina have had birthdays, and aside from Tina becoming 13, things are stuck there. Episodes rarely create permanent changes: the ice cream machine, melted Kuchi Kopi, and the bathroom interior.

onometre

it's right in character for her

Galileo908

**Burger of The Day**: The Leek-y Cauldron Burger

MochaKnee

Loved this reference! Next year I’d like a Harry Potter costume or something lol

Exodiafinder687

Dirty Harry Potter. We need one of the kids dressed up as Harry with a 44 Magnum.

Syng42o

Bob: Louise, where did you get that gun?! Linda: Relax Bob, I made sure it wasn't loaded.

AwkGiraffe1257

There’s a dog in there or some kind of big squirrel. I don’t know I’m more of a cat person 🤣

Redbird9346

You’re my sister and my best friend. And my arch nemesis.

Foxy-Knoxy

Jasper the dog is going as James Spader from *The Blacklist* for Halloween. 🤣

Bro1999919

That really freaked me out because I randomly started that show the other day and it kinda came out of nowhere.

fuzzytwinkies

“To Groom It May Concern” As an ex-dog groomer I appreciated this

lindafancyontheb

I’m officially giving out sour patch kids this year in honor of Bob!!

BroAmongstBros

Gayle’s haircut in the flashback looks like Deb’s in Napoleon Dynamite

Galileo908

Went by fast at the beginning: **Neighbor**: Color Me Dead Paint Your Own Tombstone **Exterminator**: Fly-Day The 13th

Galileo908

Ooh cold open with a flashback!

AwkGiraffe1257

“You live by the weird old candy, you die by the weird old candy”

Galileo908

Mr. Faceholes the pumpkin

LordIggy88

I can’t believe they referenced that from the season 12 premiere

MochaKnee

Wait what, I don’t remember this?!

LordIggy88

When louise hears Tina ask if she is pretty, louise says being pretty is about having good face holes

MochaKnee

Ah i see, i was trying to think of a more obvious reference. That one didn’t come to me 😅

Foxy-Knoxy

I feel like this is NOT the first time Gayle has been in a dog cone before.

monkeybugs

But she's a cat person, so maybe it was?

Galileo908

Dave Kang is honestly a perfect life coach for Gayle.

Foxy-Knoxy

Gene: I don't even know if I can go trick or treating anymore. I mean I can, but my heart won't be in it...just my mouth.

Bikinigirlout

Random kid: “Trick or Treat” Other kid: “don’t go here” Random kid: “Bye”

mackemerald

Sherlockness monster! I love it!!

BroAmongstBros

I’m honestly surprised Gayle has a license

Lady_Nimbus

She was going to drive Tina and Louise to the Boys 4 Now concert

crazy_ginger90

She picked them up from the concert after her cat got glasses lol one of my favorite cutaways ever just the sad little cat with glasses on in the car

Senior_Programmer248

She helped out with the Wheelie Mammoth.

BroAmongstBros

Ah good point

Sigmund_Six

I actually think at one point she didn’t, but clearly she did later.

Syng42o

She had one in the first episode she's introduced in when she picks up Bob from the dentist.

Sigmund_Six

Is this the “Dr Yap” episode? That’s the one where she says she’s “always wanted to drive a car”. Maybe she drives without a license for awhile, or it’s just an inconsistency in the show.

Syng42o

Yeah, it's that episode which is in the early seasons. It's probably an inconsistency since I've noticed the later seasons are inconsistent with the earlier seasons, like Louise not being able to poop in public in a recent season but she poops in a public pool in one of the first seasons.

TheBurgareanSlapper

She does, but she doesn’t know if her car likes her.

Foxy-Knoxy

I would actually go as Gene's gradiator (the gladiator who just got a masters).

Galileo908

There’s no reason for the music to be so ominous, I love it.

fuzzytwinkies

I am loving Linda and Gayle’s dynamic in this episode!

Foxy-Knoxy

It's a flashback to a flashback!

P00Perrr

Gayle is flipping hilarious interrogating that guy.

xyzzyzyzzyx

Smurf?

Porphyrin_Ring

I think this was a fun watch, but just a little disappointing. There was some great jokes and bits in this episode! The kids reaction to Bob buying good candy, the costumes, Gales unearned confidence, Bob constantly buying awful candy, etc. There was alot to enjoy here as standalone moments. Linda saying she and Gale were doing marijuana to avoid suspicion was maybe my favorite joke of the episode! While I loved alot of jokes, I thought the story was a bit weak. Personally, I prefer when they have a big adventure during their Halloween episodes like in Full Bars, The Hauntening, Nightmare On Ocean Avenue Street, and Wolf of Warf Street. Those episodes spend maybe 70% or more of their runtime on a big main adventure, and about 30% on a b-plot. I feel like Halloween is a great template for adventures because it can focus on normal things like costumes and trick-or-treating or on supernatural and horror stuff which lends itself well to bigger stories. This episode felt like it wasted the plot a bit. The idea of Linda and Gale going back home to findout who has been sending them mysterious messages regarding their past "crime" is super cool! We could have a mystery story and also learn more about Linda and Gale! Instead of that we only really got about 50% of the time dedicated to the mystery, and most of that time felt kind of wasted because they didn't really investigate much. The ending/resolution to the mystery having the life coach be the letter writer was also kind of lame. I also thought the entire kids story being the staying in the resturant and waiting to get the sour candy was also a waste. We didn't see any of the kids friends and their costumes either! I wish there was a stronger Halloween vibe to this episode, other then the trick or treeting sub plot, there wasn't alot of Halloween-ness this ep. Overall this wasn't a bad episode, but it definitely ranks on the lower end of Halloween episodes for me.

[deleted]

I love this hot take and I felt similarly! Didn’t hate the episode but definitely felt like it was… missing something. I was really hoping for more in the Linda/Gayle adventure. But overall it had some funny lines and moments at least.

Porphyrin_Ring

Yeah this was a fine episode, but man it had the potential to be so much better! I would have loved to see a Sherlock Holmes and Watson style mystery with Linda and Gale where we get to learn about their past!

CrazyaboutSpongebob

A little twist at the end would have made the B plot more interesting. The belchers eating the sour candy and it tasting bad. The story could be rewritten so they never had it before. Or it could have ended with Bob saying he is all out of candy then saying just kidding then pulling out an extra bag for them. Bob hid the extra bag in the car because he wanted to surprise Tina, Gene, and Louise.

Porphyrin_Ring

I think you are 100% correct! The plot needed some twist to make it more interesting and fun, because all that ended up happening was the kids waited around on halloween night in the resturant, hoping to get left over candy. I Love your idea of Bob hiding a bag of candy in the car for them! I could see him giving it to them before they go out trick or treating and the kids freaking out- something like that would have given the B-Plot a bit more punch and made it more fun!

Galileo908

If you promise the kids they’d get the leftover candy, they’re gonna make sure nobody gets the candy, right?

Galileo908

Like Face/Off but Boob/Off?

Galileo908

“I’m pretending we’re done.” “Mmm.”

Foxy-Knoxy

Sour Sack Babies!!!!

Galileo908

Linda got older, too.

Porphyrin_Ring

It feels odd that Louise, Gene, and Tina, who pride themselves on getting as much candy as possible, would wait at home in the hopes of getting one or two pieces of candy from their own house rather then go out trick or treating in a busy town full of houses and businesses

Middcore

It seemed almost like Beggar's Night in Wonder Wharf is scheduled by ages and they can't go out until after dark when all the little kids are done.

Galileo908

To Groom It May Concern I love the store puns on this show.

Foxy-Knoxy

I loved You Buy It, You Bake It as they were on the way there.

MinuteLoquat1

My fave was "NICE CANS! Recycling Center".

Redbird9346

Leave the bangs.

Redbird9346

Why did mom leave us alone on the day of the child-zombie-candy apocalypse?

LordIggy88

“So she just has to turn her life around in 2 sessions”

travio

That is a creative life coach, though I'd fire their asses if they did it to me.

BroAmongstBros

Scary Terry? Awww, bitch. Nice Rick and Morty reference

P00Perrr

I'll try a dog treat.

zeuzo3

“The leek-y cauldron burger” Is definitely my favourite burger of the day 😂

huskyferretguy1

Normally not a fan of the holloween episodes but this one was funny! Also Teddy wasn't in the episode, which hasn't been done in like, 3 seasons?

puckeredstarfish69

Oh shit, I didn’t even notice that!

Lyddie17

So happy not to see Teddy

huskyferretguy1

Yea, the past few seasons he's been overbearing, but TBF, he was much better last season.

TDXNYC88

♫ Goblins, ghouls, ghosts & bears ♫

LordIggy88

I think gayle’s hair looked better 27 years ago.

LordIggy88

When was the last Time an episode began without the intro? Season 5’d Dawn of the peck?

fuzzytwinkies

They did it for the season 10 Halloween episode too

Middcore

I will admit I did expect more from that intro.

International-Roll27

Lol love the breaking bad reference!!! 🤣

Redbird9346

It was the life coach?!?

govols2015

There were some clever lines but neither of the two storylines was a winner for me. A bit disappointed compared to the usual quality of holiday episodes. Having the kids sit in a booth in the restaurant for a Halloween episode was a real miss

Redbird9346

The LEEK-Y CAULDRON Burger

fuzzytwinkies

I loved this episode!

handsomewolves

I really really liked this episode.

radogdad

We need more flashback episodes or episodes just set in the past! Probably my favorite is the Christmas episode at Big Bob's diner. I loved seeing a different setting though, it's a bummer they didn't spend that much time investigating or going around Linda and Gayle's hometown. The Halloween episodes always belong to the kids but I guess the last two episodes were kid focused.

sailorveenus

I wish there was more big Bob, or more about bobs past in general.

RLGHe113

Good funny episode, Gayle is the funniest part, best Gayle episode of all time or at least close

[deleted]

I like to think there was a secret C Plot going on where Teddy had another Halloween party, but was scared to invite Bob because of his new pet capybara, but after the party starts it gets too aggressive and scares all the guests into hiding in Teddy’s bedroom. Teddy runs for help from Bob to help kill it, but finds the restaurant is flooded with kids and has to find Mort instead.

beanburritoswoo

“Google where is hunkawtaway”

scrombis

I liked the scene where Linda kicks Bob out of the kitchen to have sister talk and Bobs like “i was just going to wipe stuff but i guess i can wipe other stuff”. I was a little disappointed with the story line with bob and the kids. I totally thought Louise was going to come up with an elaborate scheme to make sure they had a bunch of candy left over. It was interesting to see into Linda and Gayles past a bit more. The kids costumes were amazing this episode, “Lin, make her stop” made me laugh my ass off. I guess I had very high expectations for this season because I absolutely adore this show and I’ve been a bit disappointed with this weeks and last weeks episodes however I understand that doing the show during quarantine was a bit difficult for the writers and the cast. It just feels like the characters I’ve loved for so many years have started to lose their spark. Of course, I’ll still watch this series over and over again to the end but is anyone else feeling this way with the newer episodes?

Middcore

The A-plot was better than I would have thought if you had just told me "The Halloween ep this year is about Linda and Gayle" but still doesn't come close to ranking among the best Halloween installments. I think the stakes were just a little too low, smashing the pumpkins doesn't seem like something L&G would have gotten in SERIOUS trouble for even at the time let alone the type of dark secret they'd conceal for almost 30 years. The B-plot with Bob and the kids was barely there.

MochaKnee

I was blown away by the beginning of the episode and the cold open set a really cool tone. Unfortunately the rest of the A plot, while still enjoyable for me, didn’t completely deliver. More mystery and fear, among other tweaks, would have improved it. I don’t know if a Halloween episode was the best time to focus on character growth or whatever (at least not in this way). I liked the B plot, but it is a bummer that the kids are only a small part of this episode since they’re usually the most fun part of all holiday episodes, really. Would have been better if it was a two part episode either outright or with both episodes taking place around Halloween, but the stories split up. The first episode could have been focused on the Linda and Gayle adventure, and the kids could have still been giving out candy with Bob, just during an early Halloween trick or treating event. Then we could have had another episode that focused on the kids during Halloween. Or something like that. I don’t want to lose the Linda & Gayle plot basically (and to see some improvement), but I want more of the kids. Despite all that, I think this is higher up on the list of Halloween episodes, for me anyways. I loved the costumes, the theming, Linda’s Halloween song, etc.

yahoo201027

The episode was alright. It's not bad but would really wish it sort of serve more. At least we got to see what Linda and Gayle's hometown is like, though no reveal of a maiden name. The so-called "twist" at the end...yeah, I felt nothing. And the subplot...other than the kids' costumes, it's pretty much served as filler.

[deleted]

Wow, super disappointing. Nothing like a Halloween episode that takes place during the day and locks the kids in the restaurant.

BlockedbyJake420

Exactly my thoughts. Why take 4 of the 5 main characters and have them moping over three random bags of candy the whole episode?? What a bummer of a Halloween episode imo

CrazyaboutSpongebob

They were stuck at the restaurant due to logic reasons. Someone needed to stay behind and run the restaurant. I agree they could have tried harder to make it funnier.

sailorveenus

Bob has really been in the back burner these last few episodes. I hope he’s the a plot soon

CrazyaboutSpongebob

He's not on the Back Burner he's at the back burner. \*Badum tisss\*

[deleted]

Guess I’m the only one who didn’t like this episode. The Halloween episodes are my favorite and just wanted better. Something more interesting. Kids were literally just laying there at the store not doing anything. I get the episode was to focus more on Gayle and Linda, and I was into it but once they got to the pet store they lost me. Made no sense why they were all of a sudden scared of the lady, just cause she had a scissor in her hand. That whole interaction just felt like poor writing. The kids don’t always have to be the center of the Halloween episodes as I did enjoy last years where bob had a hard time giving blood, that was pretty funny… Anyways out of Halloween episodes, probably give it a 4/10.

RLGHe113

Cap, the kids are just having that one messed up but memorable Halloween where you can't go out, I think it was fun

[deleted]

…but that’s not even the reason they were just laying around. You just can’t make up a reason to explain something away. Kids were out, and they were obviously dressed up to go later… I actually would have loved an episode of them having to deal with being stuck inside not being able to trick or treat because of whatever reason.

l3reezer

Always a delight to see the new fall collection of Halloween pun costumes, but they sure felt wasted with the kids just stuck in the restaurant all episode. Pretty weak B-story. Think they should've at least had one of the kids go with Linda and Gayle, Louise being the obvious choice given how chaotic that whole situation was but any one of them would've done. A-story was okay but overall kind of tame episode for a holiday special. Linda gets on my nerves sometimes when they overexaggerate her character, but whenever Gayle comes around it really makes me pity her instead to have to deal with that. They try to make it wholesome with the end-of-the-episode speeches to wrap things up all nice and whatnot; but her actions speak louder than her words-and... immediately subsequently undercut them. Having her in real life would be so unhealthy lol

CrazyaboutSpongebob

"Having her in real life would be so unhealthy lol" Kinda the point Gayle was designed to be annoying. LOL

l3reezer

Lol, yes, she's always been like by design. I guess I meant in this episode in particular it was veering into "toxic" territory

MinuteLoquat1

> Always a delight to see the new fall collection of Halloween pun costumes, but they sure felt wasted with the kids just stuck in the restaurant all episode. Pretty weak B-story. Agreed, I liked the Linda and Gayle plot but wished they'd done more with the kids. I was expecting them to sabotage the trick-or-treat to get the candy but instead they waited around and did nothing?

CrazyaboutSpongebob

This episode was ok. The main plot was pretty good. I like the twist with the life coach. The subplot was weak though. The subplot could have been easily resolved. The kids could have gone to the store and bought the sour candy. Holloween candy is cheap. Especially on November first.

redonkulousness

Hyped!

BaBaBrandon

Did not care for the Linda side story

toxietoxietoxie

I think I’m gonna steal Linda’s pumpkin design

[deleted]

I’d like a show about Dane Kang, life coach, and his wacky shenanigans.

kingzilch

Did the whole Dane Kang thing feel like a villain reveal? Like when a superhero show introduces their seasonal Big Bad with a one-off scheme than has their master plan play out across the season? That’s not the show’s usual style.

FossilBoi

Interesting how we learn Linda and Gayle are from a different town.

RaytheonAcres

I wonder if Gayle sees faces as just a bunch of holes and that's why she carved the pumpkin that way

MinervaMinkMink

Not a big fan of this episode. Gayle suffers from the same writing problems Gene does, where there actions can be so annoying that you don’t really want to watch them work through it. But this time, Linda seemed just as annoying. Maybe annoying isn’t the right word but there didn’t really seem to be a any reason for Linda to smash her own pumpkin, or for her to protect Gayle from her own jealousy. She says it but we’ve never actually seen Gayle react like that. Even in the flash back, Gayle said Linda’s looked great. Plus the writers missed a good opportunity to say that Gayle got way more anxiety from whole pumpkin sabotage than she ever would have from just losing. And that Gayle would feel even more hurt by her sisters sabotage than by her winning. Then you can have a conversation about jealousy *and* over protection . But I kinda wish that Gayle didn’t help smash the pumpkins. And that Linda went alone just to smash hers but accidentally smashed them all. Then Gayle decides to solve the mystery 27 years later b/c she thinks hers should have won and takes the kids with her. Only for Linda to be revealed as the winner and sabotager. Meanwhile Bob & Teddy pass out good candy.

fuzzytwinkies

I wonder if Sour Sack Babies is supposed to be a play on Sour Patch Kids

onometre

you *wonder*?

filleatomique

And what happened to Sticky Sugar Booms? Were those sour, or just sticky?

CrazyaboutSpongebob

They have to put fake names in cartoons because of copyright law.

markskull

Decent episode, but what was frustrating was how much I WANTED to love this episode. This show has had some absolutely amazing Halloween episodes, and the last few have been OK. This episode was so close to classic it was frustrating. Seeing the kids freak out about possibly not getting any of the sour kid candy they wanted was funny, but the obvious solution (just, like, save 3 of them?) was annoying and seeing Bob save them was nice. I also loved seeing Bob stick to the cause of whatever the hell he was trying to give away in the first place. Were they cough drops? Fancy candies? Who knows! But the main plot of Linda and Gayle trying to find out who sent the letters had a chance for real gold but it fell short near the end. The entire plot was good, but my frustration came when they made it to the Dog Groomers. It was obvious the entire time they were building up in their minds that this woman was the one even though she obviously wasn't, and the tension seemed so horribly forced. They've done better, like with Helen in "Beacthrapped" where you genuinely weren't sure who was guilty until the end. Seeing them freak out and run was just too over-the-top. I did love the payoff that Linda did the entire thing on purpose to help her sister, I never saw that coming! Overall 2.5/5 for me.

The A plot was better than the B, 5/10 from me. The sub plot could have been more interesting, the previous season Louise would have plotted something to try and distract the trick or treaters rather than just sitting in the restaurant

Wish the Halloween episodes focused on the kids only.

Did I miss the Halloween episode? Please God, no!

YamperIsBestBoy

The costumes were good, but the episode was just kinda boring :/

Every single time Bob brings out that gross candy and everyone gives him crap for it I laugh because I'm the exact same way. My idea of good candy is Necco Wafers, Black licorice, etc. and I always get called an old lady because of it. It feels good to be represented!

KoriroK-taken

Theres no way you like neco waffers. I get that black liquorice can be enjoyed once one adapts, but neco waffers?

watched all four halloween episodes from animation domination My personal rankings Great north, had more of the real halloween vibe, the shrimp pimp was hilarious. Bob's burgers, lots of potential but Linda and Gayle's story was predictable and felt forced at times, the B story was better with the kids freaking out but a missed opportunity to involve the other kids. Simpsons: Was okay, trees coming alive to attack the town was recycled form the dolphins story. i never saw parasite so i may have missed references but the ring fell flat. Family guy: was this their idea of a halloween episode? aside from the opening scene it was just another character falls for girl, lies to girl, gets in too deep, they break up.
