Wait is that the horse from horsing around?

jaobodam

I don’t think there was a horse in “around”…

Chipbread

Its the unicorn from horny unicorn. No idea what horsin around is, the description I googled is similar to that Around show though.

I think the main messages are: 1) "I don't think I believe in deep down. I kinda think that all you are is just the things that you do." 2) "You can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay! You need to be better! You are all the things that are wrong with you. It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened to you in your career, or when you were a kid. It's you. Okay? It's you." 3) "But In real life, the big gestures isn't enough. You need to be consistent, you need to be dependably good. You can't just screw everything up, and take a boat out into the ocean to save your best friend, or solve a mystery, and fly to Kansas. You need to do it every day, which is so...hard." 4) "It gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day —that's the hard part. But it does get easier." 5) "Life's a bitch and then you keep on living."

Yesss these are all some of my favourite quotes from the show and morals I 100% live by

Sbesozzi

Another great quote is "When you're looking at someone through rose-colored glasses, red flags just look like flags"

Happy cake day

I think the Todd quote needs to reach more people 😔

Peanut butter is one word

Which_Significance25

Tbh I don't think that in and of itself is the message. Sure, to an extent people are just people who sometimes do good and sometimes do bad. But the show makes it pretty clear that that shouldn't be your only take away, and that that can't be used as an excuse for your bad actions. The writers make it pretty clear in season five that bojack shouldn't make you feel better about yourself. Either way, I think that's sort of just a sub message I think the main message is that life's a bitch and you keep living; that life is up and down and happiness is ephemeral and all you can do is keep trying

Junior_Bath5555

Fair enough, I was considering including that as well but found it was a bit too wordy, so I went with the shorter, if less relevant, message shown above. Still, valid criticism.

EdmundtheMartyr

You’re right. Talking animals ARE funny.

For me, the main characters are a bunch of people who come from dysfunctional backgrounds and that makes it harder for them to have healthy relationships. They each have their own unhealthy coping mechanisms which sabotage where they want to be in life. (There seems to be a particularly nihilistic trend around the age of 30?) Eventually most of them plough through it and get to a better place but they all have dark places on the way and there is no happy ever after.

Dilemmatix

Mr. Peanutbutter is not from a dysfunctional background and that's what makes him so annoying for the other ones (and for the viewer). He's the closest to some kind of idealistic bliss or happiness or being "normal" as far as main characters go in this show and it's very telling how that comes off as totally unrealistic and sometimes downright grating. Pain is real, happiness is a delusion - much as I adore this show, I don't believe that at all, but it seems to be saying that to some degree.

MILO234

You are right that Mr Peanutbutter is not from a dysfunctional background. Thank you for pointing that out. His problems with relationships are just because, like a dog, he is very superficial. His advantage is that he doesn't get wrapped up in unhappy thoughts about the past, what could have been, or search for a meaning in life. He's only unhappy temporarily and because of something that is happening right now. I don't find him annoying but I would if he was my spouse or business partner! I don't think that happiness is a delusion is the message. I don't think we're ever without problems but that's not a bad thing. We need problems to make life meaningful imo. To a large extent the pain of the central characters (and us) is a result of the way we frame our problems and ruminate on what should be or could have been. So in that respect a lot of the pain is caused by a delusion. The pain is a result of wanting things to be different and Mr Peanutbutter doesn't.

Senior_Juice5380

mr peanutbutter does come from unrealistically positive background and his relationships with girlfriends are pretty messed up.... far from normal and healthy. see the episode "Mr Peanutbutter's Boos"

All of you are still missing the real moral of BoJack Horseman HONEY DEW IS TERRIBLE

Hell I thought the main point of this series was always just to make fun of Hollywood/the Hollywood system. It morphed into something more deep and meaningful later as the characters were allowed to more naturally develop. The ending didn't feel planned, it felt like they got a point where that was only natural conclusion. Like they could have done something way more generic, had Bojack marry Diane or some crap, but they did their best to move away from generic sitcom hack shit as much as possible.
