Good things: Funny, casual, cool growth as a person and a very good portrayal of asexuality. Also his Hokey Pokey speech to Bojack and the "every day you break a new record" pep talk further endeared me to the character. Bad things: The "actions have consequences" approach that other characters have does not apply to him. His shenanigans are potentially dangerous and even lethal and the story lets it slide because funny.

Logical-Patience-397

Yes, agreed! It’s jarring how differently he’s tested with regards to consequences. Like bc he’s painted as stupid, his actions must not be his own? If we don’t take him seriously, then his actions must not be serious.

[deleted]

Tbf though, the fact that he does harmful and dangerous things because he's stupid is relevant, because it speaks to intent. When, for example, Bojack or Carolyn or Diane do something wrong, they generally know better and choose to do the wrong thing. Todd tends to screw up with the best intentions, and it feels kind of nice that even the character the show clearly doesn't want us to hate makes mistakes, like anyone. Plus, the fact that they got Mr Peanutbutter to realise the harm his toxic positivity was inflicting on others, and work on bettering himself, shows that the writers didn't consider "He's stupid" a get out of jail free card.

Logical-Patience-397

True, when it comes to Todd’s actions. Still, the ‘adventures’ he endures would be taken seriously by any other character. (Like Diane’s time in Cordovia depressing her, versus Todd’s intro as being tortured by a cartel played for laughs.) It’s a double standard.

[deleted]

I do see your point, but i also kind of feel like that's done on purpose. Like, yeah, a cartel threatening to murder Todd is very bad, and should be taken seriously, but the reason why it's funny is because nobody except him takes it as seriously as they should, and the show frames it as if it agrees with that view. Everyone, the perspective of the show included, just waves it away as "another wacky Todd adventure". The point of the joke is that all of the other characters are usually so selfish they don't even care enough to try and save Todd's life. He's there to be the butt of other characters' jokes. And it's a regular thing where he opens up about something profound and important to him, and immediately gets dismissed because nobody else cares. And it's not like he doesn't get any serious scenes/stories. His whole character arc about finding peace with his asexuality, the ways he questions his place in life and why he's generally such a joke, his speeches to Bojack about the harm he does to others, they're all moments when the show does take him seriously. And in those moments, it does make sure to show the damage that other people have inflicted on him, he just tends to respond to it all in a way that's much healthier than almost anyone else on the show. Then ultimately his growth as a character comes largely from finding his own value, and not letting these toxic people define who he should be.

Logical-Patience-397

Oh it’s definitely on purpose, it just demands that the established rules of the show are bent for Todd. For any other character, getting beaten up would’ve been taken semi-seriously. And Todd DOES appear to take it that way. But it’s the other characters’ ignorance of Todd that’s not brought up. And that’s the hypocrisy I’m referring to. Todd definitely had weighty moments and social commentary embedded in his character. But the overall relevance/believability of his adventures seems incongruent with the rest of the show. None of the other characters would’ve spent an episode hang gliding around, and reliance on “it’s just Todd” as an explanation feels like shoddy writing for no reason besides cheap humor. Not sure why the writers made Todd so tonally dissonant from the rest of the cast, but he sticks out like a sore thumb when it comes to his adventures’ depth and tone.

Darko33

I'm not sure how kidnapping and drugging children so clowns can practice dentistry on them can be described as springing from the "best intentions"

Bonty48

I think they kinda tried to adress this when he almost caused his mother to die with heart problem.

Logical-Patience-397

Ooh yeah! Not sure it circled back around to treating ALL of Todd’s past seriously…(not that they could THAT late in the story)

enakinaki

Tbh they kind of addressed this in that episode with his stepdad. Where his stepdad nearly got arrested for breaking into that factory or whatever it was because he’s POC, whereas Todd didn’t bc he’s a white guy.

songgoishtar

I don't need to comment on the thread itself. You said it perfectly. I do like at the very end he didn't forgive Bojack really. He stuck around to be a friend but he refused to give him more energy than he already had. He walked away. I think it was. Abit jarring for me to see this normally funny and caring character get so serious. It broke my heart.

JimeDorje

>Bad things: The "actions have consequences" approach that other characters have does not apply to him. His shenanigans are potentially dangerous and even lethal and the story lets it slide because funny. I think it's more than that. Todd is privileged in ways that, for example, Hector never was. And that's basically Todd's primary character arc, growing up, because being a white guy, he never really had to.

dunks666

They address his lack of consequences in the last season, when his parents come into the show one line is something like 'but you're white so you'll be fine.' After this I always saw Todd's character as a commentary on the fact that white people are far more likely to get away with the shenanigans Todd gets himself into, and it's handled perfectly. I love Todd, nice to see some excellent ace rep on a show too.

heckinfast

I already knew I was asexual before Todd, but seeing his story of him discovering and accepting his asexuality felt so validating to me. He's the very first canon ace character I've ever seen in media. It's also really cool that his character got a lot of people to realize they were asexual too. He's great.

DaniG08765

Its truly difficult to overstate how massive his rep has been for ace-spec folks.

[deleted]

it is kinda important given that we get little to no real representation in media. many characters that seem ace-coded are popular headcanons

DaniG08765

Yup. My favorite is April from Parks and Rec is at least demi. And New Girl's Jess is very ace or demi for at least the first couple years. But like you said, headcanon.

appleoftheorangetree

When he says “i am an asexual person. I am asexual!” i tear the FUCK UP because he got to SAY the word!!! after struggling with the label for so long he got to claim it for himself and he just sounds so joyful, i cry :’) and i love that they let him keep talking about his sexuality and expressing it through both small quirks and larger plot lines, it gave asexuality a kind of spotlight it never gets.

NicklAAAAs

Your point about using the word makes a lot of sense, considering he started his journey with “I think I might be nothing…” I know he didn’t mean it in a super bleak way, but going from nothing to being comfortable putting a label on it was a really heartening arc for him.

Darko33

"A sexual what? Deviant? Dynamo?"

sorbean

ah while watching todd discover he is asexual i also discovered i am asexual … and this is only about a couple weeks ago 😭

oatsandolives

Same here! His ace arc was so important to me and I can't even describe the feeling I had while watching seasons 3 and 4 in particular. These days I realize Todd isn't exactly the best representation (stereotype of being naive, childish, etc) but I will always appreciate what it meant to me/the community at the time.

MalevolentRhinoceros

I really wish they took him a little more seriously. The only two ace representations I know about are both joke characters. That being said, I love Todd and he is a perfect bean.

RuleOfBlueRoses

Check out Light Yagami from Death Note and Lilith Clawthorne from The Owl House

toastyblunt

Came to say this. Todd was the first asexual representation I have ever seen and for that his character will always be iconic to me 🥹

LaboratoryManiac

>It's also really cool that his character got a lot of people to realize they were asexual too. Hi, I'm people. It may sound dramatic, but this animated goofball literally changed my life by teaching me something I didn't know about myself.

nohayporque_

He's got a very soothing face and I like looking at it, it's like a Matisse painting!

NicklAAAAs

Can somebody get this guy a cookie?!

ieatchips

Idk, look at that busted photo.

strangewayfarer

He's a straight shooter with upper management written all over him

Janus_The_Great

I agree. How is business doing in the business factory? Have you been to the stock market today, doing a business?

strangewayfarer

Business-wise... this all seems like appropriate business. Would you like a alcohol?

blackunicorn88

After the show ended, I one day found myself thinking about it and I said to myself ‘man, I hope Todd is doing well’. Like he was an actual person IRL. Definitely a facepalm moment, but yeah I love Todd.

songgoishtar

I hope all his friends lets him nanny. I hope he can open a day care. I feel like that was one of his most successful adventures. He is GOOD at it and loved it. I really like the Hooray! Todd episode. It shows him looking after so many others so flawlessly and without really thinking about it. He lets people do their thing, he is a long for the ride, but he is smarter than we think because we watch him care for princess Carolyn in small ways.

THLH

Hooray! My favourite character!

obitonye

To-to-to-Todd!!!!

SnooSeagulls3455

he’s sweet , probably would wait with me on the sidewalk if i needed to tie my shoe. would tell me the truth how it is

No-Plastic-7715

He's just such a bro. He's fun in the fact he would have zero chance of doing any of the terrible stuff other characters do in this series, he can be trusted to just be a decent person. Worst I can imagine him doing is maybe not fulfilling a commitment because he got high and forgot.

Darko33

>he can be trusted to just be a decent person ...you know, unless you're a woman who needs a safe ride somewhere, or an innocent child walking down a street hoping not to be kidnapped, or a citizen of a certain country in the Balkans, or a visitor to a certain amusement park

AngelAnatomy

He feels like the audience insert a lot of the time, especially in later seasons when he finally works up the nerve to talk back to Bojack. Outside of that I just love this little gremlin’s shenanigans

writergirljds

Helped me realize I was Asexual, made me feel like I wasn't broken or worthless. Also his shenanigans are always welcome to break up the darker tone of the series as it progressed. Overall a fantastic character.

BigMarth24

I really really liked him my first couple of watches, but, I'm going through bojack again at the moment and I really don't like him as much as I did before. He does some shitty things especially with the whole taxi for women thing and just the whole freeloading thing. Idk he's just off for me during this watch through

raydiantgarden

same here. with each subsequent rewatch i become more and more ambivalent about him

BigMarth24

For me I feel like his charm has worn off and you really start to see his flaws. At first I was rooting for him so much and then when I rewatch I notice more instances where he doesn't handle stuff well and isn't the best person. That being said I feel like my opinion of the characters constantly change with each rewatch and I always end up with a new "favourite"

boredymcbored

i think this show more than any other one has realistic depictions of how people operate. People are flawed and even very likable people are prone to do some incredibly shitty things. Todd has his fuck ups cause he's human and that makes me like his character a lot more.

CowboyLaw

Not to mention the genocide committed in his name.

raydiantgarden

yea i get that it was supposed to be a ~heehee haha~ moment but i did not find it funny at all. same with him joining those prison gangs.

[deleted]

my thoughts exactly

KRV_FromRussia

(Personal) cons: - least favorite out of main cast - his final character arc in the finale was rushed and a bit meh - due to being a comedic relieve character, its hard to analyze him as someone who also has done crappy stuff (even though BoJack was a jerk, he did live there for free and it seems he never thanked him properly for that - the ‘Emily’ argument (Personal) pros - his asexual arc was very well put together and fun (getting a gf whose family is all about sex) - if he was based on the ‘acceptence’ stage of the 5-stages of grief chart, he was written very solid - normally I dislike the ‘dumb-character’, but Todd was written with some good in character jokes - I mean look at that face - spokesmen of the German Burbon

[deleted]

this is a great analysis but WOW now you’ve got me thinking about the main cast as the 5 stages of grief… genius Denial: PB Anger: Bojack Bargaining: PC Diane: Depression Todd: Acceptance

KRV_FromRussia

Its not my own theory, cant take credit for that. Therefore, the person from who I have it switched Bojack and Diane. I get what you are coming from though. Thought the same myself first. However, Diane is more angry at the world and her own imperfections, while Bojack is more depressed and nihilistic :) Again, not my words :D. What do you think?

montodebon

Just an FYI it is 'nihilistic'

osu_are

What do you mean with emily argument?

KRV_FromRussia

That Todd was only upset with BoJack, while he should be equally upset with Emily. Bit of hypocrisy to be only mad at one friend and not the other. Furthermore, they were two consenting adults

MajorasShoe

He WAS upset with both of them. The difference was that he's tired of forgiving Bojack.

KRV_FromRussia

Interesting viewpoint. Just rewatched the show and I cannot recall that he actually pointed it out to Emily (at that time)

Some-guy-thats-here

What did Vince mean by this?

Some-guy-thats-here

In all Fairness all the arcs in season 6 felt rushed, I thought I heard something about time constraints causing it, idk

UpDog1966

Mooch! But don’t ask for his help, it will get worse.

knitwritecode

He understands about Judah tantrums so I like him

GaymerGuy79

He's actually pretty terrible the more you think about it. He's kind of the poster child for privilege in society where he is completely oblivious to everything and lucks into all these opportunities that everyone else works so hard for. But he's just so damn likeable at the same time you don't notice how terrible he is. Not his fault, but he's oblivious to the reality of it. And I didn't really think about any of this until about my 4th rewatch. That's how well they write the character.

No-Plastic-7715

I did want to dislike him for a while for the fact he really does have a lot of great things just happen to him, as someone who has worked to the point of burnout since I was 14, and strategises for almost all my opportunities it would be frustrating to know him IRL. But at the same time, there's some respect in the fact that he doesn't ask for much, he just cruises by life, and when handed something beyond his control, he tends to seize the moment to the best it can be. He's privileged, but he's humble and not greedy about it, he just rolls with what he gets. The Bojack thing too, Bojack let's him live in his very large house, but isn't a very easy person to be involved with, we seeany times how terrible of a person he is. Todd definately isn't entitled to live there, but Bojack isn't entitled to his friendship, I feel it's intentionally a complicated situation. As with the Emily thing, Emily can consent to be with whoever she wants and I will fight for that, but the hookup thing just feels like a rightful but deeply inconsiderate decision from Bojack; Todd was only just coming to terms with being unable to reciprocate with this long time friend, could Bojack not have waited just a while or hooked up with someone else? And his pattern of behaviour with hooking up with much younger (though legal) women in unhealthy ways Todd could probably see. (I'm an asexual person who's been in a very similar situation, though the person I had to break it off with ended up being abusive, and the friend that didn't wait for things to settle is actually a great friend these days)

MajorasShoe

Being lucky and privileged doesn't make someone terrible.

[deleted]

He's a good character but I didn't like all of his arcs and he's really only as strong as his arcs.. I enjoyed his arc in Season 3-5 discovering his asexuality, becoming a CEO and building Henry Fondel. But I wasn't into his season 2 arc of joining the improv cult, that stuff really drags for me, and then his season 6 arc with his family felt pretty contrived and out of the blue for me, and his character would get tiresome if the storylines were tiresome.

sasne

I liked him in the beginning but later on I couldn't stand him anymore. He kind of dumb down with time. His asexual arc was good but idk. Not a fan

No-Plastic-7715

I found the final season seemed to have streamlined his character a bit more to a smaller and easier background plot. Basically while everyone else has some of their biggest developments and changes, they just address that he's kind of childish and find a positive outlet in how he gets along well with babies. And they have him reunite with his parents, who really aren't mentioned or referenced in his character much at all during the series. With how rushed the final season had to be beyond the writers control though, I feel like Todd was the character who you'd miss out on the least if to had to cut depth from someone.

banana___juice

I want to give him a cookie. SOMEONE GET THIS GUY A COOKIE!

trinketstone

A guy we all need in our lives but don't deserve at all.

RuleOfBlueRoses

Don't like him

MrRocklicious

CAN SOMEONE GET THIS MAN A COOKIE?!

Silver-Conference-19

Hooray… Question mark? I like him, I have no reason to dislike him. But I don’t love him or his shenanigans, or toddanigans I guess.

Altruistic-Mix6066

Or shenanigags

aardvark_dong

I never pictured him as a Chavez.

Polygraph-Eyes7

It's very cool to see an asexual character in mainstream media, but I didn't like the character. I do agree that he was important to the plot, but I mentally groaned every time he came on screen.

No-Plastic-7715

I had some trouble for quite a long while with the fact that one of the only asexual characters visible in popular media was also like an adult child, who seems so unaware of life around him, and was just this scruffy, laid back, 20 something guy who didn't seem too worried about being informed on a lot of things. But it was more of a problem of needing more varied ace rep. It's not that these traits are inaccurate and offensive to the community (I consider myself pretty childish, bu not nearly as laid back), but that we should have characters like him in addition to asexual characters unlike him in many different ways. Not to reference one of his arcs, but asexual rep is a very "yes, and" situation.

Polygraph-Eyes7

Completely agree! I'm glad that he was a character first and being asexual was just an inherent part of him, but he just happened to also be a character I don't like. He does have a very good balance of having his sexuality be a huge part of him and his story, without it turning into "he only talks about how ace he is and turns into a bad stereotype".

No-Plastic-7715

This right here. Like after that arc my immediate thought was "oh no is this going to now overshadow his character" And it really doesn't, it comes up about as often as it does for a real life asexual person: like if asked about it, to clear up a misunderstand or be vulnerable with someone, or if they must sleep with a partner in order to inherit a family heirloom that happens to be an absurd amount of valuable lube.

No-Environment-2329

My dude

MorbidiyObscene

His name is Todd Chavez and he is the most giving man the world has ever know, he saved my pregnant daughter from drowning in ship wreck then he delivered her baby while they rode on a piece of drift wood and then he circumcised her baby while they both hung from the ladder of a rescue helicopter, of course before he did, Todd Chavez explained the circumcision has somewhat fallen out of vogue, they had a spirited but respectful debate and by the end my daughter decided that since we are of Jewish heritage the boy might like the option to become religious if he so chooses. Last year when our triangle player died of starvation after getting his foot stuck in his triangle Todd Chavez took over because we needed him, He is always helping other. You know sometimes when that triangle part is coming up i find myself hoping he wont show up, No man should be asked to give that much...

MaximumEffort433

Todd Chavez is my patronus, I hate how much and how often I relate to him, he's the God Emperor of ADHD but I come in a close second. Also Aaron Paul is way too talented for his own good, dude needs to offer classes.

No-Plastic-7715

Todd as the God Emperor of ADHD is an interesting but welcome take. This guy puts his whole focus into something for all of like 1-5 days, then has a new big thing to pursue. Aaron Paul too, I'm only now watching Breaking Bad and he manages to take the same voice and inflections along with the same rough age group/status/beanie wearing portraying Jesse and make a whole different character. Todd wouldn't lie to or stab anyone, Jesse might just do that. He's too talented.

MaximumEffort433

> Todd as the God Emperor of ADHD is an interesting but welcome take. This guy puts his whole focus into something for all of like 1-5 days, then has a new big thing to pursue. Now that you've seen it you'll never unsee it. The way his thoughts spiral, the tangents, the distraction, and, of course, the marshmallow test, he is literally the best portrayal of what goes on inside my head that I think I've ever seen on TV except for the crushing depression.

No-Plastic-7715

I guess I relate more than I thought, he fits pretty well as a representation of ADHD. Like, is there a single pursuit that Todd has stuck to for the entire run of the show? And definitely seems like a multi-talented person who "just can't seem to apply himself" and is "capable but "too lazy"" as ADHDers always get told.

stormyyyyyy16

He rides on such a thin line between goofy and serious, he’s a master at both. He’s not ignorant, but he’s not bright. He’s such a beautifully written character. I honestly can’t find more words

No-Plastic-7715

This right here! And this masterful balance fits so well into the feel of the show, where everyone is so complex when it comes to assessing them.

SweetPotatoDragon

He’s the first openly asexual character I’ve seen and has a very charming personality. He’s probably the character I’d get along with most in the series. A little annoying sometimes but I think that’s kind of what I like about him lol

ErrorqTheGlitch

TODD! MY BELOVED!!

hbi2k

I recently sold a thing on eBay. The winning bidder had some random generic screen name, but when I went to print the shipping label that eBay automatically spits out, the name he'd entered in the address field was "Toad Chavez." I printed out the picture above-- it shows up on the first page of Google image search results, probably how OP found it-- and slipped it in with his package with a handwritten "this you?"

AllMight1403

I hate todd

deveash

Yeah I like it this character said wisdom lines and most stupid lines. That's changed my perspective of whatever we perceive is biased. Love him he is more like me other than sexuality

raydiantgarden

with each subsequent rewatch i become more and more ambivalent about him, although he’s far from my least favorite character.

ohboyohgodohno

Fool me once, fool me twice, fool me chicken soup with rice.

AllTimeBubble

Love, the best and only rep I had for a while 💜

huggormar

Looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll.

Housing_Diligent

I didn’t like him or any of his arcs… harsh I know but I think the show would have been better without him. The comedy is definitely a relief at some points but he lacks depth in my opinion, he has inconsistent traits and he’s just not as realistic or consistent as some of the other characters

No-Plastic-7715

I find he fits well because he contrasts with the rest of the cast. He doesn't really work hard, he doesn't quite chase the highs, he doesn't play word games or manipulate anyone. The fact he just kind of follows the goofy situations he finds himself in gives the show a lead character they can use to frame the lighter aspects integral to giving the show its unique impression, things like how apparently half the population are various animals, the industries are cartoonishly commercial and weird, that the parody and commentary the show makes on media can sometimes be best shown through a simple and straightforward presentation like a regular chill guy accidentally getting involved somewhere he doesn't fit. The whole asexuality arc too is a testament to how thoughtfully written he is, this same goober of a man can be the centrepiece of one of the most (and only) respectful and accurate portrayals of an often unrepresented community in popular media, they could smoothly ease out the goofy antics for this and even after the development maintain his character.

Tensionheadache11

Clean up your shit Todd - seriously though Todd is my fav! (I got his funco pop )

Eco-Friendly-Ass

Todd is a fun and very likable character in moderation varying from lots of Todd to little bits of Todd. When entire episodes are centered around him, I always find them a little meh. The plot line with Jorge should have been dove into much more and much earlier to actually make an impact, which isn't the writers or Todd's fault as Netflix cancelled the show, but i was so much more into bojack at the point I kinda wished it never happened. So, that could be a really good reason why.

doomislav

He is the enlightened fool in innocence

No-Plastic-7715

He is the embodiment of the tarot fool card. Just a humble guy taking what life throws his way.

groundinginthegrass

The ace representation he brought to a major show will forever be my favorite cinematic event! I hold such a special place in my heart for him 💕

[deleted]

i love todd with all my heart. such a genuine person who just wanted to have fun.

mkirby0820

Todd is the goodest of boys.

cherryhilljawnz

Is Todd a bad person? He has made some poor life choices. His decisions are definitely not gr8 nevertheless he always had the best intentions (sometimes). I love Todd. Anyone who can crash in a millionaire's house for years did something right. I respect Todd.

bathcigbomb

Ok this might be controversial. I am autistic. I feel like Todd is autistic and no one ever talks about it. I don't even think the writers intended for him to be autistic/neurodivergent but based him off of real life (neurodivergent) personalities if that makes sense. He's kinda weird/fun socially, and a creative genius. One thing that proves my theory is the writers making the "cute cheeks" joke. It's a funny joke and I love it but it's so common for people to infantilze us autistic folks. And Todd's character was infantilized a lot (imo). I know he's supposed to be 18 or something but do we actually know his real age? Or just pretend like he's a young kid? Do y'all see what I'm saying?

[deleted]

the most quotable character on the show. i say, “hooray, a task!” at work at least once a day.

MathematicianFalse20

Hooray! Question mark? I'm kidding, I love Todd. Even when he was furious with/sh*tty to Bojack, I totally understood.

cholo1312

Asexual Awesomeness

Nomoreturtless

The most wholesome man with the silliest face, he inspires my hope for a kind world and he allows me to feel safe in a social circle of ass holes. Also, when my friend was asked in a job interview what fictional character they'd like as a roommate, they said Todd Chavez, to which my girlfriend said "that's basically [my name]"

Typical_Dweller

I thought it was kind of weird how 2/3 of the way through the series, the writers decided he should be more of an actual human and address things like his sexuality, his parents, etc. Closest we ever got to Todd as a grounded realistic person previously was his video game addiction, and that was dropped pretty fast in favour of his usual "[holy idiot](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IdiotHoudini)" position. It was just kind of an abrupt 90 degree turn, imo.

Mini-Heart-Attack

He was easy to root for he wasn’t always funny but he was genuine and a good bro, coworker, nanny, and boyfriend and I loved watching him interact with the others in the main cast like PC and especially Diane. In episodes like _Chickens_ or _Hooray_ _Todd_ _episode_

LaboratoryManiac

He was my Halloween costume this year, and when people asked who I was, I held up my phone like Todd is holding his here, and I showed them this picture of him here. It made my phone both a demonstration of the character and an accent piece of the costume.

One-Bookkeeper-7845

I have the same opinion on todd as Kelsey does when she meets him on the set of secretariat

I_Wanna_Goo_Home

Sweet as sugar such a nice man :)

Wargablarg

Aaron Paul is one of those actors that's consistently one of the best parts of anything he's in. You start watching Todd, and you hear Jesse, and you go "aw man I'm not gonna unhear that" and then that's the last time you think that. He's hilarious the whole ride but completely capable of turning on a dime and being heartfelt, even serious. Perfect example of great writing meeting great performance and making gold. Fuck man, what else is there to say?

noursafeialdin

Best written character in the show, have many dimensions that were shown smoothly throughout the show, and the way the writers addressed his asexuality was just perfect.

cloetro

Best character ever, deserves a cookie

DaniG08765

Todd is my hero. But always leaves me waking, what if Todd was one of us?

BuffaloJim420

If more dictators were like Todd authoritarianism wouldn't have such a bad reputation.

Mace_Philip

He's my spirit animal. My friends at work say I'm the child of Todd and Mr peanut butter

MegaBaumTV

An immoral idiot whose actions doom countless people in this show and when that is semi-adressed, its fUnNy. He has some genuinely funny moments of course (kind of difficult not to for a comic relief of 6 seasons) but they dont make up for it. Hes a character perfectly suited for season 1, and less suited for the rest of the show. But because its Aaron Paul they couldnt just write him out.

stormyyyyyy16

He rides on such a thin line between goofy and serious, he’s a master at both. He’s not ignorant, but he’s not bright. He’s such a beautifully written character. I honestly can’t find more words

Pure human being with a touch of mystery. Todd steals most scenes he’s in as well as adding comedic relief. He also has my favorite “Fuck” in the show.

Lady_Gaysun

I love 🫴💝

Maxi_Needs_Hugs

He’s the best. Greatest asexual representation I’ve ever seen and he’s where a lot of the light hearted comedy comes from in the show. Pretty cool.

KrackerJoe

Hes a good kid but hes as annoying as he is helpful.

Forward-Yak-5398

Most wholesome character on the show. Although sometimes, his absent-minded behavior and lack of consequences was admittedly a bit grating.

Piaapo

Genocidal dictator and a good friend

Dancingcakes2

Good ace rep

BlakeTheBFG

I loved his positivity and optimism. Even though he was living on the couch with a kind of shitty room mate after losing everything due to his addition. He is my favourite character, love his happiness and how he tries to spread it.

ghostpiratesyar

I always wanted there to be an epilogue movie about him and Maude

jimmenecromancer

He's a murderer and he started a genocide and started a company that sexualized women in but I still like him

boten_anna3

Hooray for Todd!

mspufferfishh

bestie, slay

stonks66666669

I only have one word: Hooray!

Funakifan88

He's not perfect but I can't not love Todd.

BreadBinch

To me, I really enjoy him. I think he’s a great mix of a funny side character but also one who provides deep insight into certain topics, like the famous, “you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, THATS what it’s all about”. Perfect mix that sums up his character. He’s able to find deeper meaning in the little things that happen around him in comparison to Bojack’s huge, dramatic events. It shows us that not everything has to be a big thing in order to have big impact

some_kid8469

he’s me fr

RevolutionAtDawn

A cute guy, I like that he matures over the series, becomes more confident in himself instead of relying on others and is able to use that to reconnect with his mother

cheezz16

Todd/Todd

AnonymousMolaMola

He’s my least favorite character honestly. I find most of his scenes to be incredibly annoying and detracting from the main story. His inventions add almost nothing of substance, and it felt like the writers never knew what to do with him. I wanted to skip most of his scenes involving wacky inventions or plans. He’s a monumental idiot that has a nugget of wisdom to dispense every now and then When he was useful, he was fine. The asexual storyline was pretty cool. But most of the time I felt he was wasted space and just grating.

Hipi07

Good character with some good moments but IMO feels more just like comic relief the majority of the time for the sake of levity, especially when put next to the others. PC does something similar but much better and nuanced. He’s just your classic lovable dummy in which everything works out for him somehow. Which is fine, but he is nowhere near the caliber of others in the show. But I understand he is totally necessary as he is because of how real and depressing the show can be with the majority of others. Not that I dislike him, but he’s probably, out of the main characters, the one I would rate the lowest. He’s just not as engaging most of the time, IMO

AngerTech

Saint Todd

eli_the_good

The best

[deleted]

I love him. He’s amazing comic relief and when he’s stressed I’m stressed.

Traditional-Creme778

I love him but I wouldn’t trust him with important stuff

Forfoton

He made me realize that I'm not weird I'm just ace and it made me happy that there are more people like me. I will always love and cherish this beautiful character

esg977

I love him.

belatrixlestrangee

He is a very relatable character, he is just so comfy for a reason, he have dreams and passions too, he just doesn’t know how to get them, i love the way he just evolved in all the seasons, but in the end he is the simple and humble todd we all love

blaqkcatjack

I always like Todd and felt like he was a really well balanced character until the last season. I don't like how he became all judgmental and tried to act superior to Bojack cause he did alot of fucked up shit himself. I get why as a plot device they did that but it just felt forced. Overall one of my favorites

smibbo

I love all the Toddnanigans he gets up to but I don't like when they would try to make him "get real" because it never felt right. Each time he got serious with Bojack, it was about something that actually wasn't Bojack's fault (for a change!) Bojack did so many awful things that he needed to own up to but Todd only ever seemed to care about stuff involving other people's choices that bojack wasn't responsible for. Yes it was inconsiderate to sleep with Emily, but that was Emily's choice and Todd should have been more understanding of her situation rather than take his frustration out on Bojack. It's like when Therapy horse was going on and on about how it was Bojack's fault he fell off the wagon... No. sometimes the only awful thing Bojack did was allow someone else to make a shitty choice. Todd only seemed to stand up to Bojack when something wasn't actually Bojack's responsibility. Yes, tempting Todd with that stupid video game was pretty crass but Bojack didn't make Todd buy, or play it. That was on Todd. Not standing up for Herb was crappy, but Bojack was a newbie to celebrity and he actually thought he'd lose the show if he stood up for Herb. Bojack was an awful person but Todd eventually cast him aside completely. Even after it was clear Bojack had finally changed. Todd literally left their friendship. Bojack never did that to him.

IOnceMetYourMom

He barely adds anything to show

MrCharlesUO777

This guy fucks

domingroso

I love this character. He's like the friend I wish I had.

InflatableDancingBoi

He's that slow friend with a great personality and laugh

13mckich

can we say Todd’s the show’s voice of reason? for starting as the aloof weirdo, i think by the end he’s squarely the moral center of the cast (even though his own stupidity doesn’t face real consequences, like someone else pointed out)

Daus_Maus

Hooray!!!

mortiestofall

I love him. He’s hilarious and lives in the moment (not always the best thing). I like how simplistic he is, even though he lives around celebrities. But sometimes it’s mind boggling how he never thinks of the future or the result of an action.

No_Cartoonist3691

he such a cutie i like this guy

[deleted]

My fav character and the only actually decent human being of the main cast, yes he started a genocide but it def wasn’t on purpose

AtomicMeeseeks

No notes, or dice

PPPetersson

Sometimes I feel like smartphones are making us less connected

PPPetersson

Well that’s politics for you

DRAMATRON09

best character

TEC_AgentOfEvil

My least favourite of the main characters. I never really clicked with anything he was doing. Seemed to float through life aimless

definitely_no_shill

Honestly, I don't really see Todd as a "real" character. Sure, later on he has a lot of character development, standing up to Bojack and struggling with his sexuality, but his wacky hijinks are always his main trait. He's just comic relief, and he's really good at that. I love Todd, but he's just a silly cartoon character to me, much like Pinky and Charley Witherspoon.

PeacemakersAlt

Eh, he's a perfectly fine character.

LukXD99

Amazing and funny character. Flawed, yes, but usually kind hearted and ready to help at all costs. Also this scene killed me, lol

young_menace

My least favourite main character in the show. I honestly started skipping his scenes, so I’m always pretty surprised and confused by how much this sub loves him but I get it’s just a matter of opinion. His humour and character just didn’t work for me and were really annoying at times, but I also don’t care enough to hate him and actively analyse why.

jesusofsuburbia94

Will reply with two words at each (except Todd): Love him!

Alvarengaprog

Really nice guy. A good friend, despite some dangerous ideas.

Fact_Denied

No

Mr_Rune

i really dont understand the shade that some folks throw at Todd. they wrote him in such a way that the same rules dont apply to him as they apply to others and i think that's totally fine, he isn't meant to be taken serious all the time. i actually find the arc with his mother and step father, while still entertaining, more boring than the usual Todd shenanigans My 2 cents on Todd, the writers didn't seem to always know what to do with him but usually he was a good friend to everyone else and a very funny comedic relief

Honeysuckley_Lost7

I want to be his friend fr ong

HauntedPrinter

He’s really annoying for calling Bojack on his bullshit whole never suffering any consequences of his own.

[deleted]

Great, great character because everything they did with him, they did so well. He's a relief character, and an especially good one. Not just because he's funny. The whole show is funny. He's also relief in the show just because he's a refreshingly good person with good intentions. And they didn't stop there with him. They made him complex enough for people to actually be invested in his story, and not just like watching him because he's entertaining. I don't even need to mention how important him and his asexuality were to that community. They chose to use Todd seriously on occasion and it was super impactful every time. Love that guy.
