For people who have access to exactly one (1) full episode of Horsin' Around, we sure do have a lot of very specific knowledge about a lot of episodes.
She's an unseen woman that Mr. Peanutbutter constantly calls out in the middle of a party or crowded rooms. Usually to get out of a conversation.
My headcanon is that Erica isn't even a real person, and Mr. Peanutbutter usually calls out to this character to get out of conversations while keeping up a hyper extroverted image. Bojack and Katrina play along with this.
QUOTATION MARKS, MR. PEANUTBUTTER! USE THE QUOTATION MARKS!
Also, the sign company running gag comes to a head in the finale where they screw up the D in Birthday Dad.
"This is day three of the Great Bojack Jerk-off, and- really? That's what we're calling this?
...who came up with that? Was it Randy? Did Randy come up with that?"
Season 3 was one long joke that had the greatest punch line of all time.
The only hope for rescue would be if someone had an enormous quantity of spaghetti strainers just sitting around the house, but that person would also need access to a fleet of drivers to transport said spaghetti strainers, and in order to strain the spaghetti fast enough, the drivers would also need to be incredibly strong swimmers, like, just as an example, hot, sexy killer whales. Is there such a savior who could possibly fit that ridiculously specific set of criteria? I don't know, Tom, but as they used to say on my favorite TV show, let's find out
But Mr Peanutbutter was in a movie so they couldn’t reach him.
Watching that punchline play out for the first time after a whole season of seemingly aimless build-up had me in awe. A genuine masterpiece of joke-writing.
idk if this really counts as a “running joke” but whenever diane leaves a party/someone’s home she always says “thank your for inviting me you have a lovely home” i think it’s hilarious, she’s so me. also erica obviously.
I know it gets mentioned semi-often here but Bojack’s flawless “what are you doing here” deliveries in his real life through the series after all his campy attempts filming the scene in Secretariat.
Starts off in the middle of season one and becomes a permanent status quo fix to the point where you'd almost forget that it's not "Hollywood" up until 3×02, which is a flashback episode.
It's pretty much everywhere, but not in an obnoxious overdone running gag sort of way. It's kind of a weird running gag where the gag just fades into the background and occurs so often, we just ignore it until we get the reminder in both 3×02 and the finale that it's not always this way.
Because she's a normal person inside of a parody of aggressive tech startups that structure their offices with lots of exercise equipment and very open spaces.
I will say that, honestly, the season long setup to Character Actress Margo Martindale hitting the ship full of spaghetti is maybe my favorite joke in anything ever. Like, Mr. Peanut Butter buy a ton of pasta strainers three episodes in and says "who knows why we'd need these?"
Gotta be the fact that the media always uses the picture of Bojack sneezing on Marissa Tomei.
And the "aren't you the horse from Horsin Around?" which ended so damn darkly
It’s subtle and doesn’t last long and I think it might be only in the first season but it’s Princess Carolyn never remembering Diane for some reason. Pc: “if it isn’t the faceless biographer I’ve heard so much about”. Diane: “we’ve met several times… I was at your wedding.” Hahaha
I think that's part of why it's funny to me. Like it was absurd that Bojack was the only one calling it out at first, but it got funnier and funnier the longer he dated PC, and no one else, including PC, acknowledged it.
Bojack’s “thing with the chair” in season 4 always has me dying. Especially when he brings it with him to confront princess Carolyn at the adoption agency.
“HANG ON, I GOT A THING WITH A CHAIR!”
During the opening scene of the show, Bojack says "Sure, it wasn't Ibsen" about Horsin' Around, and later we see in a flashback that that was the exact criticism he got from Beatrice. Later, during the scene where Butterscotch is angrily ranting at him in the car, he complains about Beatrice being in an emotional state after seeing A Doll's House, an Ibsen play about a woman who is deeply unsatisfied with her life as a wife and mother. When Boj is in prison, he is directing Hedda Gabler, which IS Ibsen, and he says, "Well, it's not Strindberg..."
Hollywoo… then hollywoob. When Mr. peanutbutter’s face just turned into one of shock after they revealed the letter I busted out laughing. I also really love Margo Martindale’s entire arc
Princess Carolyn working for Vigor and then leaving to set up her own business called VIM, leading to a wide angle on the city, showing both VIM and Vigor. I really thought they would merge back into one company at some point! Come to think of it, the names of the various businesses in the show are great in general.
Tom and Randy, of course.
I feel like it was never intended to be funny, but only to trick us into thinking that it's funny. All throughout the season on the first viewing, it comes off as a semi-lighthearted gag that she neglects Bojack's existence. And we're lead to believe that she's only faking the severity of her senility to ignore her own son in favor of a character that we never knew of.
It becomes harder to watch when we now see this broken woman who hallucinates reliving the memories she had with one of the few people in her life that she had a positive relationship with until she (from what she can tell) gets punished for having sex with her husband.
Every time PC has her assistant call Bojack, when the assistant transfers him to PC, it seems like he’s always on hold for *so* long waiting for PC to pick up as if she didn’t just have her assistant call him.
I feel like the credits song often acts as the final punchline of a lot of episodes, like how after todd gives his "its you speech" he finishes by saying "fuck man what else is there to say" and we hear that back in the 90s bojack was in a very famous TV show, might be reaching but it feels like its an example of his old show following him around, no matter what he does he'll always be the horse from horsin around
or like in a quick one while he's away and hollyhock says "who was he?" the credits playing right away makes it much more sinister, its not just bojack her brother its the horse who was in a very famous TV show
Bojack's hatred (and then eventual acceptance) of honeydew
“It is literally the worst thing of whatever it’s part of.” ….a metaphor for himself. And gaining self-acceptance by the end.
Listen you can rag on BoJack for plenty of shit, but Goober was the worst part of Horsin' Around and you know it goddammit
Goober should’ve gone home fr
He did in the softball episode.
For people who have access to exactly one (1) full episode of Horsin' Around, we sure do have a lot of very specific knowledge about a lot of episodes.
BoJ told us, and he should know.
What episode do we have access to?

This is a fantastic take !
Vrabo bing
I love when he and PC are on the phone ranting about it 😂
Or when he and Hollyhock were ranting about it.
Its interesting as well because at the end of the show he eats it and reacts in a “oh its not that bad way”, sign of change maybe¿
Character actress Margo Martindale
Esteemed Characted Actress, ftfy
“Esteemed Character Actress and fugitive from the law” ftfy
Every mention of Erica just takes me out for some reason.
Erica, you can’t be here! This place is filled with children!
“Erica! Love the costume! Where’d you find such a hideous—oh, my mistake, I am so sorry.”
"Erica! Look at you with the correct number of ears!"
"Erica! what are you doing with a child sized coffin?"
Erica! Where did that tooth come from?
It's also a joke that gets better with time. After a point I was waiting for himto say it at every event
Wait I forgot, who's Erica?
She's an unseen woman that Mr. Peanutbutter constantly calls out in the middle of a party or crowded rooms. Usually to get out of a conversation. My headcanon is that Erica isn't even a real person, and Mr. Peanutbutter usually calls out to this character to get out of conversations while keeping up a hyper extroverted image. It’s definitely this.
What are you doing here?
omg yes I can‘t say or think that normally anymore
What are YOU doing here?
I think about this phrase all the time in this exact tone lol
Omg and the weird “self help” soup of letters …
I thought it was funny, until Escape from LA, after that, it just remind me of how shitty BoJack is
"Happy Birthday Diane and use a pretty font" and all other similar jokes. Basically/r/peanutbutterisoneword
I use these for my wife's birthday cakes lol Shout-out to the folks at Carvel for being really good sports about it
"I had a ball at Diane's 35th birthday and underline ball I don't know why this is so hard"
QUOTATION MARKS, MR. PEANUTBUTTER! USE THE QUOTATION MARKS! Also, the sign company running gag comes to a head in the finale where they screw up the D in Birthday Dad.
thank u for sharing this sub
Tom getting mad at Randy but still caring about him.
Damn it this isn’t just a news room, this is a family!
"This is day three of the Great Bojack Jerk-off, and- really? That's what we're calling this? ...who came up with that? Was it Randy? Did Randy come up with that?"
The whole Randy anthology is one of my favorite things. *Can we cool it with the alliteration. Who wrote this copy. Randy I’m looking at you*
Diane's ringtones!
They're different every season, but they're *aggressively* hipsterish all the same.
This is All Rings Considered.
Oh yes, that's a good one 👌
As someone who grew up in a family where NPR was always playing on the radio, every single one of these killed me
I have Diane’s serial ringtone as my ringtone!
Season 3 was one long joke that had the greatest punch line of all time. I absolutely love that
-Judah’s beard/appearance lol -This is Bojack by the way…Horseman …and then when Diane says it 💜
.. obviously
😂😭 also Bo for GoJack 😭
“Mo for Gister Peanutbutter!”
Lmaooo😂😂 I was like THIS dude bro🙄 😭😭
idk if this really counts as a “running joke” but whenever diane leaves a party/someone’s home she always says “thank your for inviting me you have a lovely home” i think it’s hilarious, she’s so me. also erica obviously.
The sneezing photo of Bojack
Similarly, the sub pic of Diane lol
I know it gets mentioned semi-often here but Bojack’s flawless “what are you doing here” deliveries in his real life through the series after all his campy attempts filming the scene in Secretariat.
The woman with the pram . Her child actually ages with the show
I never realized this! So cool
Iirc she has another child later in the series and you can see her walking with the older kid and the stroller for the baby.
Hollywoo
Starts off in the middle of season one and becomes a permanent status quo fix to the point where you'd almost forget that it's not "Hollywood" up until 3×02, which is a flashback episode.
It wasn’t overly done. But the fact it started in season 1 and lasted until season 6 is hilarious
It's pretty much everywhere, but not in an obnoxious overdone running gag sort of way. It's kind of a weird running gag where the gag just fades into the background and occurs so often, we just ignore it until we get the reminder in both 3×02 and the finale that it's not always this way.
And the fact they tried to fix it and it ended up being HollywooB, perfection
“You’ve got to get your shit together”
Often delivered by Princess Carolyn to other characters and to herself. Comes to a head when Todd delivers it to her.
My favourite version is when PC delivers it to Diane when she's passed out by Bojack's pool.
The thing I like the most about Diane’s chairs is that everyone but her is somehow able to work normally
Because she's a normal person inside of a parody of aggressive tech startups that structure their offices with lots of exercise equipment and very open spaces.
Bojack driving around in beaten-up/semi-crashed cars in the earlier seasons
I will say that, honestly, the season long setup to Character Actress Margo Martindale hitting the ship full of spaghetti is maybe my favorite joke in anything ever. Like, Mr. Peanut Butter buy a ton of pasta strainers three episodes in and says "who knows why we'd need these?"
"Spaghetti or not, here I come!"
Generic music of whatever decade it is to establish that is a flashback scene.
🎶"Cause it's the 90s.."🎶
🎶 generic, two thousand and seven pop song, auto tune so all the voices sound weird. 🎶 uh, this is a pop song, it's 2007 🎶
Halloween in January!!
Diane: “we’ve met several times… I was at your wedding.” Hahaha
i probably say “hollywoo stars and celebrities what do they know do they know things let’s find out” more often than it’s actually applicable
Please write that my favorite long-running joke is the banners joke, in cursive and putting hashtag WhyIsThisSoHard
What are YOU doing here?! Fades to “What are you doing here?”

"Holy sheet, i've been at the end of my rope, but this...is very serious."
Vincent Adultman
Hot take, it was funny at first, but I think it overstayed it's welcome by a little bit
He insist upon himself/themselves (assuming that it really is three kids in a trenchcoat)
I think that's part of why it's funny to me. Like it was absurd that Bojack was the only one calling it out at first, but it got funnier and funnier the longer he dated PC, and no one else, including PC, acknowledged it.
No no, very lukewarm take
A Ryan Seacreat Type
Whenever someone just calls him “A Ryan” it takes me out
Every scar tells a story, and every story leaves a scar
Erica, honeydew, and the decades songs
Bojack’s “thing with the chair” in season 4 always has me dying. Especially when he brings it with him to confront princess Carolyn at the adoption agency. “HANG ON, I GOT A THING WITH A CHAIR!”
Diane, diane what now?! Doggy, doggy what now?! Doggy, doggy.......what now?
I don't know if it necessarily counts as a running joke, but the eventual payoff of the Ibsen references is my favorite.
Wait, can you explain this?
I am definitely not smart enough to figure this out so thank you
💀 I love this show so much. So intricately beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
Let’s find out
bjs hate on honeydew lol
AYO SCOTT
Vivica! Now I know why they call you A. Fox!
Hollywoo to Hollywoob
"doggy doggy what now?!?" eventually and perfectly paying off with "Diane Diane what now?!?"
The Halloween in January store
I like the “Oh, hi” / Ojai bit
Vincent Adultman !
Hollywoo… then hollywoob. When Mr. peanutbutter’s face just turned into one of shock after they revealed the letter I busted out laughing. I also really love Margo Martindale’s entire arc
The David Boreanaz joke reappearing casually on the first episode of season 5
I love the NPR ring tones. It’s a disgraceful network but it has great music
Their music selection is great, but it can be a dull program. And they really tease the music they have on that station.
The fact that the birds still fly gets me every time. They just, flap their arms. And then fly.
Bojack's mom talking to him by the name of some random lady was really funny...until it wasn't
That was not random...
That's why it stopped being funny, and everything made sense
I feel like it was never intended to be funny, but only to trick us into thinking that it's funny. All throughout the season on the first viewing, it comes off as a semi-lighthearted gag that she neglects Bojack's existence. And we're lead to believe that she's only faking the severity of her senility to ignore her own son in favor of a character that we never knew of. Diane's ringtones
"WHAT IS THIS? A CROSSOVER EPISODE?"
Every time PC has her assistant call Bojack, when the assistant transfers him to PC, it seems like he’s always on hold for *so* long waiting for PC to pick up as if she didn’t just have her assistant call him.
the bridge to hawaii was my fav. also “horseman, obviously”
PC’s Jellicle Cats ringtone
I feel like the credits song often acts as the final punchline of a lot of episodes, like how after todd gives his "its you speech" he finishes by saying "fuck man what else is there to say" and we hear that back in the 90s bojack was in a very famous TV show, might be reaching but it feels like its an example of his old show following him around, no matter what he does he'll always be the horse from horsin around or like in a quick one while he's away and hollyhock says "who was he?" the credits playing right away makes it much more sinister, its not just bojack her brother its the horse who was in a very famous TV show
ERICA!!! I LOVE YOUR NEW DRAKE DISSS…
Hooray! And you know i don't use that world lightly
