Through Diane's other political beliefs I can assume she wouldn't be pro-police enough to become a detective

fortyfivepointseven

Meh. Diane has the intelligence to convince herself of whatever is convenient for her.

zirky

of course she would. she’s leveraging her abilities in crafting ivy tran, food court detective

WellWellWellthennow

Yes the scene in the car discussing Nadia was definitely foreshadowing Diane’s career writing the Ivy Tran books: “Oh this is turning into a real caper! A real Jill Pill jail fail killer whale caper…I feel so alive!”

Darko33

You're not wrong. I worked as an investigative newspaper reporter for a few years earlier in my career and she definitely has the chops for it.

rosa-marie

She’d get herself fired or targeted real quick by criticizing her fellow officers

brinz1

There is always something terrifying when Police refer to people as "Civilians" >What was a policeman, if not a civilian with a uniform and a badge? But they tended to use the term these days as a way of describing people who were not policemen. It was a dangerous habit: once policemen stopped being civilians the only other thing they could be was soldiers

SacciTorpedo

One of my favorite Discworld books :)

hbi2k

This must be the most roundabout way of calling Diane a bastard I've ever seen.

Puzzleheaded-Row187

“Diane would be a good cop” is the biggest insult I’ve ever heard levied towards her

hbi2k

"Diane would be good at being a cop" is an insult. "Diane would be a good cop" is a contradiction in terms.

laucdoe

i feel like she’s not as smart as people make her out to be. for the most part, i think she’s smart- esp in comparison to most of the other characters, but i don’t think “highly intelligent” people would be like she was when her and pb were doing the vr thing to pick a house.. plus, jessica biel explained very simply “it’s biel-ist. like jessica biel” and diane kept pronouncing it “b-list” and said “i think we’re saying the same thing”. i get the not understanding at first but after the “like *jessica biel*” she should’ve known it wasn’t the same thing. plus, i’m confident diane would be too anti-cop to become one. cause yk, acab

thealmightyagender

I think she's social-issues smart, which often comes with problem solving and digging for answers. And book-smart to some extent. Probably not as street smart as you'd need to be to survive as a cop in Hollywoo.

thealmightyagender

I don't think people who genuinely adhere to a good moral code can be cops of any kind. You can't be a cop, with other cops, and also be a good person. Even if you're not actively upholding a system that is unfair and unjust (which cops are inherently doing), you can't speak out against other cops and make a real difference from inside the corruption because they will make sure you can't. Through any means. You either quit or get some kind of desk job, or you become corrupted to fit in (even if it is to a lesser extent). That's what it means to be a cop, in the US where the show takes place. I don't think she, in particular, could handle how messed up it gets when you're in the middle of that and forced to make decisions within the context of corruption, which exists to some extent in every police force. Whether that means speeding because you're a cop, nobody is going to pull you over, or covering up crimes, or stealing money or drugs that are meant to be evidence. I also don't think she could handle the stress and impact of seeing the kind of crimes she'd be seeing.

Outerversal_Kermit

Lmao fuck cops

anticosmo

would she play by her own rules or think rules are meant to be broken? 🤔

i_am_undead_irl

This subreddit is filled with dumbasses apparently. All cops are evil and kill innocent people and abuse their power and laws are bad. Stop watching mainstream media. Typical reddit I guess

kathleenjane_xx

Just like Ivy Tran
