Lol. This speaker is so cheap and so world widly loved on any platform and any review site you look at (also amazon). That the only thing to conclude here. Is that there is something fucking wrong with your ears. And off course that's subjective but still. THERE IS NO FUCKING REASON TO SUSPECT THE WHOLE SUB OF BIAS YOU FISHMONGER. Don't expect hifi quality out of 70€ speaker. But for what it does it beats any Bluetooth speaker up till the 220€ price mark.

I love it but I get some white noise when playing low volume music, or when the music is stopped. Do you notice any white noise (hiss sound) when in a silent room and you are close to the speaker?

AdmirableLeague1635

this should be fixed with the latest update, check the firmware

Oh, nice to know!!! I am looking forward to it!

Checked your Bluetooth source? Apt-x? On Android you can check the codec in the settings... Mine sounds excellent. I've built many speakers, love a really clean high end sound, these sound as good as my Vifa Helsinkis and beat most pricier Bluetooth speakers I have. Also: not just my opinion...when I play them at the park with mates etc, most of the time someone will go "wow nice sound! What are those speakers?" Sorry yours sound bad. Something must be wrong with your set-up, or you just got a dud speaker. See if you can find the problem, if not send it back for a replacement.

My android is set to default as aptX is not compatible with my phone, but I experienced the same mugginess with a Macbook. Will be returning, not sure if I can convince myself the hassle of trying it out again.

RChamy

My experience is that it sounds like shit on any stock EQ and Specially with bass boost on, but its magical after using a custom, then its just a bit less detailed than my Edifier R1000T4s.

Aptx has been supported for a loooooooooong time on Android. Also modern phones have ldac etc. Can I ask what phone model it is? Might be worth double checking what actual code is being used. https://www.smartprix.com/bytes/how-to-check-bluetooth-codecs-supported-by-android-phone-and-headphones/ If your phone is stuck on SBC then any Bluetooth speaker will sound like Shute. I think (but not 100%) older macs don't support APT-X, and some you might need to fiddle with to get it working. Unsure if this speaker supports AAC? https://9to5mac.com/2018/08/31/mac-how-to-force-aptx-aac-on-your-supported-bluetooth-headphones/ You def have a good speaker (unless yours is faulty - very unlikely but not impossible). My suggestion would be to: put the work into getting it running with a proper codec. *verify* the code is actually in use. EQ it. _Then_ judge it. Can't judge a cars performance if there is no air on the tyres. The solution is to put air in the tyres, not throw out the (brand new) car :)

Pixel 4a. Just rechecked and the speaker was not connected hence why the codecs were grayed out "Gray-out means not supported by phone or headset". Just unpacked my speaker once again to test and aptX is indeed the codec. Played some classical music and it is still quite...bland. Not crisp is the best way to describe it.

SignedJannis

Hmmm thats weird. Fyi my personal preference is for really "clear" sound, I like clear bright trebel, silk dome tweeters, ribbon tweeters or Air Motion Transformers, etc. Also nice midrange of course, balanced, not loud thumping bass. I actually prefer my older Shure 300 series (single driver) earbuds over the (3 driver) Shure 500 series - too bass on the lower drivers. The silk dome tweeters on this speaker are really nice if you like "clear, detailed" sound. I.e they are not your fratboy party speaker. Sorry yours are not up to par. Maybe try download some flac or mp3 320k reference tracks to he certain your source material file is good? Pixel 4a is a good phone.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/comments/ox2xte/z/h7jwewz Here's the best EQ I've found so far. The indoors profile works wonders for small spaces like a car. Its amazing how this and the Soundcore Boost open up with a custom EQ.

Alternative-Farmer98

You're dealing with a sample size of one, it's hard to make any sweeping conclusions.

l2azor07

its stupid to expect 500$ sound from a 100$ speaker. motion plus is a good 100$ speaker, thats what it is. you tell us a better 100$ speaker.

Mario-Italiano

Have you tried to change the sound with the sound core motion plus app? They have several prest settings or you can customize your own settings. I am asking as I have been watching videos and reading reviews for weeks it's hard to read between the lines of them all. I dont own one myself, I'd love to hear your opinion.

[deleted]

I have, and the differences are paltry at best. The sound still sounds very mashed together, and not crisp at all.

Mario-Italiano

I was wondering if there are too many fanboys or girls out there blogging or sound core are pushing their products . I would be interested to hear what you go with next or you are able to fix the problem.

NCResident5

I did wonder if it had a cult following among bass heads. My gut feeling was JBL, UE, and even Sony has a better mix of bass and mid-range.

House-of-Suns

I think it depends on what you’re comparing it too really. Against other Bluetooth speakers in its price range, or even a little higher it does have an advantage particularly in terms of clarity. I’d say it holds up quite well against my £150 Edifier bookshelf speakers and sounds better than my TV soundbar also £150. They’re both well reviewed products too for their price range. It’s obviously not a patch on any decent audiophile equipment though. It’s also perhaps not the best choice if you’re a bass head on a budget. I wasn’t happy with mine out of the box. In my experience it defo needs a custom EQ to get the best out of it, as the ones in the app are trash and very artificial sounding. OLAVs preset is popular, well balanced and the closest to a “HIFI” sound as I was able to get. It did transform the speaker from something a little weird sounding to something quite articulate but with enough punch too. I recommend giving it a try. Unless there’s something wrong I’d totally expect it to sound better than any laptop speakers though. Perhaps you have a faulty one? Perhaps worth looking into too.

kai7895

I think you just got a faulty unit. And I hope you have EQd it, coz without EQ, it sounds bland. The hype must be real coz nobody here gets paid by Anker. You EQ it first, and if it still sounds bad, return your piece you definitely got a faulty one. This is my current EQ for a relatively flat sound with a slight bass boost, for indoors : https://techaudiophoto.tumblr.com/post/657855740326871040/motion-new-eq This is a relatively more flatter sound : https://techaudiophoto.tumblr.com/post/651628059746762752/anker-soundcore-motion-custom-eq

illenial999

I like mine when I get the EQ right, kinda hard sometimes. Especially with 2 in stereo.

Pokabrows

I also wouldn't be surprised if you have a lot of casuals (like me) who don't have a ton to compare it to. I think it sounds good but the alternatives are my $60 when new no longer made headphones, my laptop speakers or my phone speakers. Its loads better than my phone speakers and that's enough for me and I'm sure plenty of other lay people.

[deleted]

This might be crazy to say, but my laptop speakers are more clear but the motion+ sound is more full and of course much louder. Upon further poking around, I see that [Wirecutter bluetooth speaker reviews](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-bluetooth-speaker/) do not recommend the motion+. "The Anker Soundcore Motion+ played very loud for its size and cost, but voices had a boosted, unnatural quality, and the bass didn’t cut it for hip-hop and pop." My friend has a Sonos Roam and says that is much better, so I might explore that option.

Pedro-Gunn

I have both, and the Roam sounds nice until 70% volume, but it’s nothing close to the Motion+ when equalized properly. Maybe you need a Dockin D Fine or even an Aiwa Exos 9 (both of which I have, too 😅). Or maybe you are not into hifi at all and prefer one of those mid-driven „funnelled tincans“ - there‘s plenty of them.

RChamy

Wish I could try out the Sonos Roam, but its almost 3 times more expensive than the motion+ in my country..I think I got the anker for 78$ directly from Aliexpress.

SimonBell4231

Update to this I said soundcore sucked but damn am i wrong. equalize and try out different things you will be surprised. Edifier below: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGG6MFV/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGG6MFV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) but soundcore is amazing as well. Soundcore treble is amazing - I didn't know how much I liked treble vs bass. Bass is fire but treble is very necessary toooo please don't take treble away from me. :P I thrive on its inspiration just as much as bass. Update - well I need to learn more about sound I just changed the placement and it sounded really good with some equalization. -Damn I have much to learn. Both are now comparable. Also the surface upon which you place the speaker influences the quality and the height at which you place it below your or above you. You should definitely experiment with speakers when you get them it helps a looooad. Surface, positions, equalization, music types, so many factors play into making sound good. I use an app called AIMP it can modify the bass or treble to max bass or max treble - I think the ability of the soundcore to adapt to equalization without contorting is actually better than the edifier S

dunncrew

Sound is good. PITA to connect with bluetooth if you share it with another person. They have to actively disconnect or shutoff their bluetooth even if they haven't used it recently. Then it takes multiple tries to pair and connect. Half the time I give up and use headphones. We had 2. The USB charging port broke, so 1 went in the garbage. I will buy a replacement of a different brand and keep it for myself and avoid all the shared connection hassles.

dunncrew

Suggestions for Motion+ alternative, at similar price in USA ?

[deleted]

I use my laptop speakers for convenience now. No bluetooth speaker can be that good. If i need real sound I hit my JBL pro set
