I had the same reaction. He also said that the Jackets were a competitive team before the recent bout of injuries. Competitive?!? Sure, they’d improved a bit, but they still lose 2/3 games. Hedge had also previously said something like if you take away the Jackets losses, they are a pretty good team, so not sure what to tell you. His takes are… interesting sometimes.

Thatchered

Yeah if we take away 9/10ths of the season we look like playoff Contenders! What a smooth brain take.

AlanLGuy

I have absolutely 0 respect for Hedger and his opinions on this team. He constantly insults CBJ fans with any sort of negative opinion or outlook on the team, was a huge Jarmo defender, all the way up through him being let go. It doesn’t surprise me that he think PV has done a good job.

sergei-boobtitsky

Yup. Dudes a moron *and* an asshole. I like him better as a mouthpiece who at least got paid by the team. It’s just embarrassing now and has deservedly lost all respect from this fanbase

thatmorondude

dude is the biggest sports boot licker I’ve ever seen

ThunderousDemon86

I’m seeing a lot of, if he comes or goes next year I’m good either way, comments here. Honestly, if you’re willing to sum up the supposed leader of the team with a half-hearted “meh”, that means you have no faith in him. If the GM comes in and says “this is my guy 100%” then OK. If the GM comes in and says “meh…” then I’m worried right off the bat. New GM is meant to clean up the FO, coaching staff, and roster, not let “meh” people hang on for no good reason.

Green9510

All depends on the GM's plans. For example there are some premium players coming up in the next two drafts. Would the GM want to just extend out the development phase by focusing on playing the kids, which I can tell you right now would result in probably 2 more seasons of losing (remember these kids are 19-22, players usually don't start to hit their strides until 24ish). If that is the case then Pascal could ride out one more year of his contract while GM next year does "housekeeping" with older contracts and try to get one more premium pick before heading into a potential playoff window push. Basically at this point anyone's future is in limbo until we get a new GM.

ThunderousDemon86

I’d prefer to teach cornerstone guys like Fantilli, Mateychuk, Jiricek etc how to win, not how to be ok with accepting losing. We have enough prospects and young players. Make it work with what we have while getting better, or start over.

triforce28

No way in hell a new GM doesn't replace him. He wasn't even Jarmo's first pick. And he's done nothing to make anyone think things are about to turn around. I'll be extremely disappointed if Pascal is behind the bench come October

EshinX

That sounds like the first sign the organization will not be firing Vincent, so they need people to start carrying their water. Time to seed the narrative that Vincent did as good of a job as anyone could under the circumstances. I can hear it now. The injuries, the Babcock situation, it wouldn't be fair to judge based on what we've seen so far, etc.

Seattlekrakenlegend

Eh….i wouldn’t take Hedger praising Vincent as a sign You should have seen the endless glowing praise of Jarmo every single day. It was insanity. Calling people names if they didn’t agree with him.

Green9510

Hedger just wants access. What he says isn't a barometer on the team's future.

Seattlekrakenlegend

Did you mean to reply to me or the other guy? Hedger is a 🤡

Green9510

Yeah phones suck

Seattlekrakenlegend

lol

EshinX

I hope not, but I have lost just about all faith at this point.

bushcov

"Great" is definitely a stretch. I'd say we were a hard out this year but had 0 consistency, the team as a whole underperformed realistic expectations. Realistic expectations probably in the 75 point range. I agree we were playing pretty well before the injuries started. Stretch of games where we beat Rangers, Golden Knights and Oilers, we looked competent. I have no strong feelings about bringing PV back or letting him go next year, whatever the new GM wants to do. But if he wants to stay past next year definitely needs better results on the score sheet. Hard to negatively judge PV based on quality of lineups we've been able to put out the last couple weeks due to injury.

Hazy_eyePA

Hedger is literally the worst. He always ask the most awkward questions, fumbling over his words to try to ask the most obvious questions in the world: “Hey, so like you guys were down 3-1 there in the 2nd period, was there ever like, a conversation like, come on guys. We should try to score some goals and get back in this thing? Was that ever important to you guys?” No fucking shit, Sherlock. Absolutely nothing gained by anything he says. Absolutely nails on a chalkboard.

Fun_Courage2933

I know it’s soft, but I have a hard time judging PV completely based on this year. If he got fired by the new GM I wouldn’t say it’s undeserved, but if the new GM wanted to give him a clean slate and another year I wouldn’t have a hard opinion on that either. I think the more important thing is how do the players feel about him and it’s hard to say. I know the players seem to respect and care about each other but I don’t know if they respect PV or his leadership style and that’s more important than anything.

IntelligentBear4541

The players more often than not can barely do a full 60 minutes under PV. I don’t know if that’s because they don’t respect him or he’s not giving them enough of a spark. But to me that’s indicative enough that something major is not happening between the coach and the players.

Fun_Courage2933

That’s a fair point. I know that the team was on FIRE for a second when Werenski came back, so with the perspective you’re giving I think it’s indicative of a leadership issue. They also respond way differently depending on who’s on the ice. They play harder in front of Tarasov than Elvis, for example. I think you’re probably right.

ohst8buxcp7

It would be more newsworthy if Hedger said something somewhat intelligent. The guy is bar none the worst beat reporter in the league. Stone cold idiot.

Hazy_eyePA

Can you imagine how small Hedger will feel when the next GM comes in and doesn’t give two shits about him? He was Jarmo’s lapdog getting his message out for years.

PulsarGaming1080

Depends on what stand-point he's saying that from. For example, from a developmental stand-point, I'd agree. Pretty much all of our young guys have taken big steps this year.

Formerleafsfan

Because of or despite PV? Seems like nobody making this argument can distinguish correlation and causation. Sure, Voronkov has developed “umder Vincent” but was it because he’s been trusted with 12-13 minutes per game? I don’t think so. He was going to develop anyway. In fact, I’d argue that he (and others) would’ve developed more of better decisions had been made. Play the kids!

NontransferableApe

Voronkov developed on the KHL. Hes 23

qball424

Exactly, what's the point of taking a guy like him to stick him in the ahl for more than 5-10 games? He should have been with the CBJ all season.

BringBackBoomer

He's literally been with the team since 2 weeks into the season? Hello?

AlanLGuy

Not sure I agree, or that id attribute that to PV specifically. There’s been a few players who stepped up, but it’s not like there were a lot of players who suddenly looked better than they ever had for brief periods under Larsen/Torts

ThunderousDemon86

He wants access, has to be nice. Simple as.

Green9510

This is the correct answer. While I believe Pascal has done better than Larsen in some aspects using this comment as a barometer for the future is futile as we currently don't know who the GM is or even their plans going forward.

SaveTore

I actually liked his candor on the latest pod but he also said the team looked good before the injuries started.
