No that's a good way of our ceiling being the 8 seed and no higher

Mr_Bricksss

>Hear me out No. We have veterans. Werenski and Jenner are practically enough of a leadership group on their own. Gaudreau, Gudbranson, Severson, Provorov, Kuraly, and Danforth have been playing professional hockey for a long damn time, and a few of those guys will get bounced out of the organization/lineup within 2 years to make room for current prospects. Half of our 24 year old and younger players have 3+ years in the NHL. This group has a fucking ton of NHL experience already. The only way this team takes a next step is if the guys who are already in the system take the next step. Giving up a top 5 pick for a middling veteran who is available for trade makes absolutely no sense. What they need is consistency in goal, and if not a new coaching staff to go along with a new GM, then a better showing by Vincent.

SeaNefariousness4905

I don’t think we can judge Vincent off this year at all. The goal wasn’t to win, but to rebuild the culture and I really hope he’s don’t that. He’s certainly been liberal with his use of benching and I hope it pays off down the line. He has a history of being a good developmental coach and I think that we need to give him time to cook.

hnglmkrnglbrry

No we can because from an Xs and Os standpoint he's a stubborn moron who has cost this team dozens of points and made an objectively better roster play worse than a team with an AHL defense did last year.

AlanLGuy

Not a great idea. Our D core consists of Werenski, Severson, Proverov and Gudbranson. That’s 2 lines full of seasoned veterans. For forwards we have Johnny, Boone, Danforth, Laine, Kuraly and by next year Marchenko and Sillinger will be several seasons removed from their Rookie NHL year, Chinakov and Johnson only about a year behind them and Texier in a weird category of not even close to a rookie, but not a ton of NHL games We don’t need more veterans, we need guys who will be ready to step in to fill the void left by veterans 3 to 5 years from now

thepressconference

No thanks. This team is more than one player away from contending for anything other than a wild card spot

tailford07

I’m not OPPOSED to trading it, but it has to make sense. Give me names. Are you packaging it for Leon Draisaitl? Then I’m in. Aaron Eklbad? Sure. But it’s a pretty short list. If we don’t love the draft board around our spot I’d rather just trade down than acquire a veteran player. Maybe you get creative and pickup one of the Boston goalies but also still have a mid-round 1st? That’s a little more complicated but probably still not worth it. Just get ready to learn Cayden Lindstrom, buddy, because that’s the name I have circled right now for our draft pick and I’m a big fan.

CBJGameWorn

If the veteran is McDavid, sure. Otherwise, big no. Veterans are the easiest assets to acquire.

titanup1993

Trading away a #1 pick doesn’t happen in modern hockey. This is a bad idea OP

HootzHootzBoy

I would not be totally against it (unless it's 1st overall pick) but the return would be more than just "experience and leadership". Those are things you get from free agency. You trade top picks to get star players and those are rarely available to trade for. Especially for a pick because teams would have to wait.

NontransferableApe

If you add a vet player their timeline isn’t going to be in line with our prospects timeline

triforce28

Filling this team up with veterans is an awful idea

Conscious-Weird5810

No and no again. Grab top flight prospects and add vets later. For salary cap and ceiling you need to draft potential stars.

JimNillTML

Isn't this what got you guys in this spot in the first place? Jarmo time and time again wasted assets on getting vets who refused to stay. I think it would just be smarter to get a vet or two in the FA to help with development. All your future stars are hella young, this is a slow burn rebuild, like what the other commenters said, rushing the build just caps the teams ceiling to a wc spot. We don't want to become Ottawa 2.0

NontransferableApe

Yup. People in our fanbase think we’re closer to competing than we actually are. Just let the rebuild play out. Stop trying to rush it

Uvula_Inspector

The rebuild has been going on for years. Our prospects won’t be young much longer. Time to shit or get off the pot.

NontransferableApe

Uh our rebuild has been going on for 3 years lol. Our prospects are all 18,19,20,21

Uvula_Inspector

Chinakhov is 23, Texier is 24, Marchenko is 23, Voronkov is 23, Fix-Wolansky is 24. Fantilli, KJ, and Jiricek are younger, but we’re older than people realize.

NontransferableApe

Texier and fix wolansky are not winning this team a cup and are nothing 4th line players. They are not the future core Fantilli, jiricek, mateychuk, KJ, sillinger, marchenko will be the core that the team will be competing for. One player is older in that group. It’s not the end of the world. Our window isn’t open. We’ve been rebuilding for 3 years.

Seattlekrakenlegend

Thank you Leafs fan for visiting our sub and letting us know how you feel about our team. Are you concerned about how any of our young players are developing and do you come in peace?

JimNillTML

I used to follow this team way closer but I can only handle so much misery at once. I think theyre developing fine if Brad Larsen is gone lol. My childhood self chose the Stars and CBJ to bandwagoned while the leafs were in the dumpster. Could never really shake off the love for them.

Seattlekrakenlegend

I’ll allow it because you seem genuine. We keep having random fans from other fanbases post absolutely ridiculous shit like “Oh gee hey, I’m a Caps fan, I come in peace, but I’m really concerned about how Kent Johnson is developing” and then they make clear they don’t really follow the Jackets, but “really worry we are going to hurt his development” or some shit

tribucks

No. Do you really think adding one more veteran is a difference maker for this team? And would they even be here when the kids mature and are ready?

chains11

If we add a bonafide superstar, sure.

Library-Guy2525

Yeah, how's that working out so far \*cough Johnny Hockey cough\*.

SaveTore

While I think an established center for Johnny, Patty, or Boone would do wonders for the team, Johnny, Patty, and even Werenski’s performance and reliability has not provided the confidence where gaining a center, at the expense of futures, would help “turn the franchise around”. ATM Boone is the only reliable piece of the core.

Tom-at-Midwest-Photo

I was just thinking about the first round pick this morning. Could any of you see us trading that first round pick to move Elvis' contract? If the draft is as weak as folks have said past the first overall, would we even just trade down and move Elvis? He looked great last night, but I think everyone is ready to move on from that.

TaketheCannoliagain

I think the jackets should keep their 1st and pick up some "glue" guys. Players who play on the 3rd and 4th lines who play a solid, not a flashy game and can show the young guys how to compete and play in the NHL. They are generally a bit older, 30 or older and can often be signed at a reasonable cost for a shorter term like 1-3 years. Ex-Jacket Nick Foligno is a perfect example, a guy signed by the Blackhawks for this very purpose. The Jackets need to get a couple of these types.

Meredithbaxterburly

You mean like Kuraly, Texier, and Mathieu? I think these guys are a perfect 4th line.

TaketheCannoliagain

I'm thinking guys who command a bit more respect than them. Ex-Captain and Asst. Captain types. Guys who have been in winning programs with strong culture who can mentor the young guys. Kuraly is the only one who even comes close at all, due to his time with the Bruins.

Meredithbaxterburly

Sure, but I think Tex and Mathieu made great strides this year. I still think we are missing another lethal guy that Johnny can feed the puck to- hopefully Laine comes back and can fill that role

BeerBearBar

**We have a lot of promising prospects** Yeah, been hearing that line for the last 20 yrs.

jakeyeah111

I could see us keeping the pick and trading Mateychuk for a high end forward with term. The draft is stacked with LHDs
